What a great day for Eblen Charities' Tools for Schools donation drive yesterday!

The good people of Western NC can be counted on to help their neighbors whenever asked. Take a look at all the school supplies people donated...

We stuffed an 18-wheeler full of notebooks, pens, paper, and all sorts of other back-to-school necessities for local kids.

When I was a child I remember that I never looked forward to the start of the new school year. But I LOVED the ritual of getting a new notebook and dividing it into English, Math, Social Studies, Science, and other subjects.

The first night of school, I would join my brother and sisters at the kitchen table wrapping our textbooks in book covers made from brown paper bags.

These are the memories that stick with me 30 years later.

And thanks to the kindness of our neighbors, a great many children will get to have some similar memories, too.
