A lawsuit over the process by which Haywood County School Board voted to close Central Elementary School in Waynesville last year, is settled. Attorney Mark Melrose claimed the school system violated open meetings law by not giving public notice that a vote to close the school would be taken. As part of the settlement, the plaintiff and the school board agreed to release a joint statement. In it the board does not say it violated the law, but regrets not giving more notice to parents.
