New Outdoor Event Space Planned For Downtown Asheville

A three-acre lot nicknamed the "pit of despair" by locals will be downtown Asheville's next big event space.

Asheville City Councilman Cecil Bothwell says he's wanted the space to be used since he lived near it twelve years ago.  Bothwell says they have begun working to clean up the desolate space and soon they'll add electricity.  By August, the city wants to use the space for pop-up food and music events.

They also want to allow food trucks to park there and are considering offering yoga, dance, children's readings and other fun activities at the property.
