Judge Refuses To Throw Out Guilty Verdict For Sheriff Joe

Former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio's criminal record will not be wiped clean after all.  A federal judge found Arpaio guilty of criminal contempt of court for ignoring another judge's order to stop his immigration patrols.  Before Arpaio could be sentenced, he was pardoned by President Trump, and Arpaio's lawyers argued that should wipe the slate clean for the former Maricopa County sheriff.

Judge Susan Bolton ruled that while the pardon negates any sentencing the record will continue to reflect that Arpaio was found guilty of contempt because the conviction isn't formal until sentencing.  The judge said the pardon does not revise the historical facts of the case.
