People will likely have to stay out of the French Broad River for another week.
Environmental quality officials issued an advisory after several hundred gallons of fuel leaked into the river on Sunday.
It affects the area from Jim Webb Park to the town of Marshall.
Heavy rain is expected in the coming days, and officials say that will make it hard to check for oil sheen.
