Duke Energy Progress Rates Going Up

Duke Energy Progress is raising rates for its residential customers to help pay for coal ash basin closure costs.

The North Carolina Utilities Commission approved the increase from eleven-dollars-and-thirteen-cents to fourteen-dollars.

The hike is expected to bring in more than 230-million-dollars over five years to help in the coal ash cleanup.

Duke Energy must also may a 30-million-dollar penalty for oversight of coal ash management.
