Hiker Rescued At Blowing Rock

(Blowing Rock, NC) -- A Charlotte hiker who went missing on a Blowing Rock trail on Saturday is safe. Rescue crews found 67-year-old Frank Sanady last night off the trail in Caldwell County. WLOS-TV says he began his hike on the China Creek Trail in Pisgah National Forest around noon Saturday and was reported missing that evening. His wife says he is doing okay.

Meadows Expects Trump To Declare National Emergency

(Washington, DC) -- A Western North Carolina Congressman says he expects Trump will declare a national emergency if he doesn't get funding for his border wall. Republican Mark Meadows said on CBS' Face the Nation that he definitely expects Trump to take some kind of executive action if Congress doesn't reach a compromise. Meadows says he and other lawmakers are open to a compromise on Trump's initial demand for nearly six-billion-dollars for wall funding, but stressed Congress should be prepared to pass something ahead of Friday's deadline to prevent another government shutdown.

Another Fed Cup Wraps Up In Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- The Fed Cup is wrapped up at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville. Team Australia edged out Team USA yesterday to advance to the semifinals of the international women's tennis event. It brought out thousands to Asheville, which hosted the Fed Cup last year as well. Tennis great Billie Jean King made a stop by the Cellular Center while she was in the city working with a youth development program.

Man Sentenced To Prison For Drug Trafficking

(Buncombe County, NC) -- A man caught with drugs in East Asheville last summer is heading to prison for eight years. A judge sentenced Cedrick McDuffie last week after he entered guilty pleas to drug trafficking. Officers said they found marijuana and a mixture of other drugs like fentanyl and heroin during a traffic stop around Tunnel Road and Crockett Avenue in June. McDuffie was also ordered to pay fines totaling 150-thousand-dollars for trafficking.

Ben And Jerry Visit Scoop Shop

(Asheville, NC) -- Ben and Jerry have now visited their namesake ice cream shop. The famous dessert duo visited the Asheville Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop for its grand opening on Saturday. The Haywood Street shop has actually been open since September. The pair said everyone they met on Saturday was amazing.

Red Panda Exhibit Opens Thursday

(Asheville, NC) -- Mountain residents can come show some love to a pair of new animals this Valentine's Day at the Western North Carolina Nature Center. Thursday is the opening of the new red panda exhibit. The nature center says visitors can see Leafa and Phoenix for the first time at the noon ribbon cutting ceremony.

Lancaster Police Seek Homicide Suspect

(Lancaster, SC) -- Lancaster Police are looking for a suspect in a deadly shooting. Michael Chavis is wanted for allegedly gunning down someone outside a home on Arch Street on Saturday. Investigators said there was a party going on at the time. Chavis is considered armed and dangerous.

Mooresville Home Invasion Suspects Arrested

(Mooresville, NC) -- Four suspects are facing charges in connection with a home invasion in Mooresville. A resident at a home just outside downtown was shot early Sunday morning when the suspects broke into the home. He was last said to be in stable condition. Officers were able to track down the suspects after the victim described their car.

CMPD Investigates Deadly SE Charlotte Shooting

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a fatal shooting in southeast Charlotte. A man was found dead early Saturday morning at a home on McAlway Road. There's no word if any arrest have been made.

Borum Murder Trial Begins Today

(Charlotte, NC) -- The murder trial of Rayquan Borum begins today in Charlotte. He is accused of killing Justin Carr in September 2016 as thousands of people were protesting a police shooting in uptown. Borum has entered a not guilty plea in the case. The CMPD says Borum confessed to the shooting.

Man Dies Under Vehicle

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD says a man died after getting trapped under his vehicle. It happened on Sardis Lane on Saturday afternoon. There's no word on how he got trapped under the car. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators don't believe there is any foul play involved.

Police Investigate A Body Found On The Railroad Tracks

(Durham, NC) -- Police in Durham are investigating a body found dead along the railroad tracks. Police say they found the body of a man just before noon yesterday along the tracks near North Carolina 54 and Apex Highway. The victim's identity isn't being released. Police say it's too soon to say if they suspect foul play.

Durham Fire Officials Say A Child Sparked A Fire Playing With A Lighter

(Durham, NC) -- Durham fire officials say a fire was started by a kid playing with a lighter. The fire broke out at a home in Little Stone Circle Saturday afternoon. Officials say a burning mattress was dragged outside onto a deck by an adult. The house's interior suffered smoke damage and the house's siding and deck were damaged. No one was injured.

Fort Bragg Soldiers Return From A Tour In The Middle East

(Fort Bragg, NC) -- Fort Bragg is welcoming more than a hundred soldiers home. Yesterday, 140 soldiers of the 659th support maintenance company returned from overseas for nine months. They had been deployed to Iraq for Operation Inherent Resolve and had been responsible for repairing equipment for more than 15-units in four countries.

One Assault Charge After A Confederate Statue Protest

(Raleigh, NC) -- A man is charged with assault after a protest in Raleigh over Confederate monuments. Twenty-eight-year-old William Powell was arrested during Saturday's Crush Confederates at Our Capitol protest. There were some counter protesters, but most people at this protest were demonstrating against confederate monuments. Powell was charged with simple assault and injury to personal property.

NC Officials Are Looking To Add Restrictions On CBD In The State

(Raleigh, NC) -- Officials in North Carolina are going to start regulating products with CBD. CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive compound found in hemp and marijuana plants that many maintain has extreme medicinal benefits. This week the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service will start sending letters to businesses to let them know what is allowed. Regulators say CBD can't be marketed to cure, treat, or prevent any disease. Regulators are also on the lookout for candy like CBD products that kids might find appealing.

NC Congressman Jones Dies At Age 76

(Greenville, NC) -- North Carolina is mourning the death of longtime Congressman Walter Jones. He passed away in Greenville yesterday afternoon at the age of 76. Jones went into hospice care last month after his health declined following a broken hip. Jones, a Republican, represented Eastern North Carolina in Congress and the state legislature for over three decades.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth Co. Schools Superintendent Resigns

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Beverly Emory is resigning. Dr. Emory announced this past Friday that she accepted a leadership position with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. She'll be the new director of District and Regional Support. Dr. Emory will serve as superintendent for the next three months or so, and then the school board will begin to look for her replacement.

Surry Co. Schools Employee Charged With Exploitation Of Minor

(Surry Co., NC) -- A man who used to work for Surry County Schools is facing child porn allegations. Andy Atkins is charged with five counts of exploitation of a minor. Deputies started investigating the allegations several months ago. They say there was enough evidence on his social media accounts and electronic devices to charge him. They say more charges are possible.

Investigation Underway After Man Found Shot Outside Winston-Salem

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- An investigation is underway after a deadly shooting outside a bar in Winston-Salem. It happened early yesterday morning in the parking lo of Absolute Ultra Bar & Lounge on North Liberty Street. Police say Cequan Scales was rushed to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with a gunshot wound and later died. Police are looking for the shooting suspect and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Man On Moped Killed After Hitting Animal In Trinity

(Trinity, NC) -- A man on a moped is dead after hitting an animal in Trinity. The accident happened Saturday evening near Gable Street and Bethel Drive. Authorities say the animal may have been a goat. They have not released the victim's name.
