(Burke County, NC) -- Another death in North Carolina is being blamed on Legionnaires' disease. Burke County health officials say 89-year-old Lula Hudson of Morganton died last Thursday. Her son told WLOS-TV that they toured the exhibit halls, including the Davis Event Center, at the North Carolina Mountain State Fair last month. Aerosolized water from a hot tub display at the event center is thought to be the cause of the airborne lung infections. Three people who attended the fair have died.

Police Seek Three Women Accused In IHOP Assault

(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville police are looking for three women suspected of assaulting employees in a local IHOP. Investigators say the suspects flipped over a table and attacked two employees of the Tunnel Road restaurant last month because they couldn't get free orange juice refills. The women, along with two juveniles, are now facing felony charges.

Troopers Identify Possible Suspect In Hit-And-Run

(Caldwell County, NC) -- State troopers now have more details connected to the suspect in a deadly hit-and-run in Caldwell County. A gray Toyota Sienna van fled the scene after striking a cyclist on U.S. 221 last Thursday. Investigators say the van has a Batman, Yeti and UNC Tar Heels stickers on the back, and will have a large piece missing from the front bumper. The potential suspect was reportedly caught on camera at a Boone gas station.

Planned Burn Spreads Into Brush Fire

(Marshall, NC) -- A planned burn that spread out of control in Madison County is contained. Fire investigators say they believe dry and windy conditions yesterday quickly turned the burn into a brush fire on Oak Grove Road in Marshall. Three homes nearby were spared as firefighters controlled the blaze to about half-an-acre. The North Carolina Forest Service is investigating.

Juvenile Accused Of Making False Statements In School Threat

(Asheville, NC) -- A juvenile is accused of making false statements that led to a school lockdown in Asheville last week. Deputies searched Enka High School after a student reported someone had a weapon on the campus. The Buncombe County Sheriff's office searched the juvenile's home on Thursday and found no evidence that there was any credible threat. The student is no longer at the school.

Open Enrollment Underway For Medicaid

(Asheville, NC) -- Open enrollment is underway for Medicaid in North Carolina. Members will be allowed to pick a plan from a private insurance managed care system this year. Any Medicaid eligible residents will be automatically enrolled if they don't choose a plan. The open enrollment period ends on December 13th.

Elderly Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car In Matthews

(Matthews, NC) -- Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run in Matthews. A 79-year-old woman died after being hit in the Aldi grocery store parking lot on West John Street yesterday. The driver left the scene, but later contacted police to turn herself in. Officers say the victim had been shopping with her husband before the incident.

CMPD Investigating Suspected Arson At Apartment Complex

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is looking for whoever set fire to an apartment complex under construction in east Charlotte. A building at the Woodbridge apartments on Yateswood Drive went up in flames Monday morning, less than a year-and-a-half after the same building caught fire from a cigarette. No one was inside the building since it was under renovation. The cost to rebuild is around half-a-million-dollars.

Suspect Accused Of Killing Mother And Son In Catawba County

(Conover, NC) -- A suspect is in jail for allegedly shooting a mother and son to death in Catawba County. Deputies found the pair dead inside a home on White Tail Circle in Conover late Sunday night. A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remains in jail without bond. Catawba County Sheriff Don Brown says some people may have been using drugs before the shooting.

(Charlotte, NC) -- The Panthers may soon have a tough decision to make at quarterback. ESPN is reporting Cam Newton is expected to be healthy enough to practice next week in preparation for a trip to San Francisco on October 27th. Businessmen Accused Of Running Fraud Scheme

(Cornelius, NC) -- Two businessmen from Cornelius are being accused of running a fraud scheme for a decade. The Securities and Exchange Commission filed a complaint in U.S. District Court in late September that claims Dana Bradley and Marlin Hershey raised close to six-million-dollars that was supposed to be for home development loans in Charlotte. They allegedly kept one-million-dollars for themselves and repaid funds to other investors instead.

Airport Officials Addressing Ride Share Pick-up Congestion

(Charlotte, NC) -- Officials at Charlotte Douglas International Airport are considering some way to make ride share pick-up a little easier. WSOC-TV is reporting they're looking at several options, including a pick-up in the bottom floor of the hourly parking deck later this year. Another plan includes busing Uber and Lyft riders to an offsite lot. As for now, a pick-up zone is expected to be added after terminal roadway constructions soon ends.

(Clayton, NC) -- Clayton High School principal Bennett Jones is back at school. Jones returned to the campus Monday after more than two months of controversy over an investigation into grade-fixing. Hundreds of students and parents turned out for rallies supporting Jones after he was reassigned to an administrative position in the Johnston County School system in August.

Baby Found Safe After Minivan Stolen In Fayetteville

(Fayetteville, NC) -- A five-month-old baby who was in the back seat of stolen minivan is safe. The van was stolen Monday night after it was left unlocked with the engine running outside an auto parts store on Raeford Road. The vehicle and the baby were found abandoned a short time later. Witnesses told police they saw the man suspected of stealing the minivan running behind businesses in the area of Raeford and Glensford Drive.

Durham Honors 3-Year-Old Who Raised Money For Needy Babies

(Durham, NC) -- Durham is honoring a 3-year-old girl who sold lemonade to raise money for needy babies. The Durham City Council recognized Ava Lewis with a resolution Monday. Ava had a lemonade stand outside her mother's beauty salon and donated the profits to the Durham Rescue Mission for diapers and bottles for babies. Ava, who became known as the Lemonade Baby, is believed to be the youngest person ever recognized with a Durham City Council resolution.

Record Month For Wake County Tourism Tax Collections

(Raleigh, NC) -- Tourism is up in Wake County and that's pumping record amounts of money into the county's tourism tax collections. Food and beverage taxes totaled two-point-nine million dollars in August, the most ever for any month. Two-point-six million dollars in hotel tax collections is a record for August. The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau credits big events including the Major Raleigh Gaming Convention, Women's International Champions Cup soccer tournament, and two-week Jehovah's Witness convention for the record numbers.

Forecasters say we'll have afternoon highs in the mid-70s under sunny skies before clouds and a cold front roll in.
