(Canton, NC) -- A fire at a manufacturing plant is being investigated in Canton. Flames erupted inside Evergreen Packaging on Monday morning, but never caused any visible damage on the outside. No injuries were reported. It's been half-a-year since two contract workers were killed inside Evergreen Packaging after a heat gun fell into a bucket of resin.

Hiker Rescued After Fall In Pisgah National Forest

(Transylvania County, NC) -- A hiker is somehow escaping with only minor injuries after a big fall in the Pisgah National Forest. Transylvania County rescue crews rushed out last weekend to Slate Rock, where someone reportedly fell and tumbled around one-thousand-feet. It took six-hours to complete the rescue, as emergency workers helped the victim walk away from the site.

Quarter Of North Carolina Residents Fully Vaccinated

(Raleigh, NC) -- Around a quarter of North Carolinians are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The Department of Health and Human Services reported yesterday that one-in-four people have either received both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna medicine, or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson. Eligibility opens up to all adults across the state tomorrow. The rolling average for new COVID cases in North Carolina is about 16-hundred-75-a-day.

Suspect Arrested For Drug Trafficking In Buncombe

(Buncombe County, NC) -- A Buncombe County man is facing drug trafficking charges. The suspect was caught last Thursday in possession of over 90 grams of fentanyl, meth, marijuana and thousands in cash. The sheriff's office says the man was also arrested on drug charges in early December.

Crews Completing I-26 Bridge Project

(Henderson County, NC) -- A new bridge will be completed over the next few weeks over I-26 in Henderson County. Crews are blocking off Clear Creek Road this week in order to connect the bridge to both sides. WLOS-TV reports seven new bridges are slated to be installed on the interstate in Henderson County.

CMPD Investigating Hotel Homicide

(Charlotte, NC) -- A homicide is being investigated in west Charlotte. Officers found a man unresponsive inside a hotel on Queen City Drive early Sunday afternoon. The suspected cause of death hasn't been released. There's currently no information about a possible suspect.

Two COVID Clusters Found At UNCC

(Charlotte, NC) -- Health officials are monitoring two COVID-19 clusters at UNC Charlotte. Five students living on campus and six in off-campus housing are now in isolation. It's been nearly four months since the university last reported a cluster, which involves at least five COVID cases linked to each other. A Novant Health doctor told NBC Charlotte hospitalizations are starting to skew younger.

Ten Arrested In York County Sex Sting

(York County, SC) -- Ten suspects are facing charges in a York County child sex sting. Investigators went undercover to catch men who were seeking out juveniles online for sex last month. The York County Sheriff's Office says over a dozen agencies helped in the four-day operation called "Home Alone." One of the suspects allegedly drove four hours to meet someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl, but found police agents instead.

Charlotte Commits Funds To Help Homeless

(Charlotte, NC) -- The city of Charlotte is spending federal relief money to assist the homeless. WSOC-TV reports Charlotte plans to give more than two-million-dollars in CARES Act funding to the United Way, which is expected to help provide housing for those who once lived in Tent City. Another 700-thousand-dollars is going towards shelter for 400 families through the Salvation Army.

Suspect Arrested For Union County Murder

(Union County, NC) -- A suspect is in jail for a Union County murder. A man died after he was shot at his home on Corinth Church Road yesterday morning. The suspect fled the scene in a car, but deputies arrested him shortly after. Charges include first-degree murder.

Panthers Add Another QB

(Charlotte, NC) -- The Panthers are bringing on a new quarterback for the 2021 season. The team announced yesterday it traded three draft picks with the New York Jets for Sam Darnold. The former USC Trojan was taken third overall in the 2018 draft. He'll come on board to compete for the starting position with Teddy Bridgewater, who signed a three-year contract with the Panthers last year.

Hubert Davis Chosen As New Head Basketball Coach At UNC

(Chapel Hill, NC) -- The athletic department at UNC-Chapel Hill has scheduled a news conference for 2 this afternoon to officially announce the selection of Hubert Davis as their next head men's basketball coach. Davis, a former player for Dean Smith and assistant Tar Heel coach for the past nine years, will replace the legendary Roy Williams, who announced his retirement last week. The history-making appointment of Davis places him as the first African American to ever coach the men's basketball team at North Carolina.

C.J. Davis On List Of Finalists For Police Director Of Memphis

(Durham, NC) -- Durham police chief C.J. Davis is being considered for the position of Police Director of the City of Memphis. The announcement was made Monday by the Durham City Manager, who also said Davis is one of several finalists being interviewed for the job. An announcement of a new Police Director was initially scheduled for today, but was pushed back after Davis was added as a candidate. Davis was first hired as Durham's police chief in 2016. Before that, she was Deputy Police Chief for the City of Atlanta.

All Adults 16-And Older Can Start Getting Vaccines Tomorrow

(Raleigh, NC) -- Starting tomorrow, all adults in the state of North Carolina will become eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. It's part of the statewide vaccination rollout plan to expand eligibility to Group 5. Group 5 includes anyone age 16 or over for the Pfizer vaccine and those 18 or over for both the Moderna and one-dose Johnson and Johnson shots. Those wanting inoculations must still register first. The latest health department data shows at least 25-percent of adults in North Carolina have been fully vaccinated. And more than 38-percent have been partially vaccinated.

Family Pleading For Answers In Mysterious Death Of Daughter

(Raleigh, NC) -- A Triangle family has issued an impassioned plea for anyone with information about the death of their daughter to come forth. This, after the body of 20-year-old Christina Maria Matos was discovered inside her apartment near NC State Sunday during a welfare check. Authorities are now investigating the death as a homicide. Relatives say Matos was last seen alive during a birthday celebration with friends Friday night. Anyone with information is asked to contact Raleigh police.

Kinston Man Facing Murder Charges In Death Of Girl

(Goldsboro, NC) -- One suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of a two-year-old girl in Wayne County last week. Officers responded to a call of a child unresponsive at a home located in the 1200-block of Day Circle on the evening of March 31st. She was rushed to Wayne-UNC Health where she was later pronounced dead. Twenty-nine-year-old Rodgerick Alando Jones, of Kinston, was taken into custody Monday and charged with murder. He is being held at the Wayne County Detention Center under no bond.

Forsyth Co., Winston-Salem Team Up To Offer Rental Assistance

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Forsyth County and Winston-Salem are teaming up to help folks who are behind on their bills. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program helps low-income residents pay their rent or utilities, like electricity, water, sewer, gas and internet. Multiple reports say Davis will lead the Tar Heels following Roy Williams' retirement. Davis would become the first African-American head coach in the team's history. UNC announced last week Williams is stepping away after 18 seasons.

Person Killed In Greensboro House Fire

(Greensboro, NC) -- One person is dead after a house fire in Greensboro. It happened early yesterday morning at a townhome on Old Battleground Road. Forty fire personnel responded to the blaze and had it under control within an hour. A person living in the unit where the fire started was found dead, and a firefighter suffered a minor injury. The fire was deemed accidental, but the exact cause is unknown. An investigation is ongoing.

Forsyth Co. Schools Offers Spring Break Meal Kits
