(Asheville, NC) -- The suspect in a downtown Asheville homicide is in jail. Asheville police say Danquries Green turned himself in yesterday on murder and other charges. He's accused of shooting a man multiple times in the back near the intersection of Spruce and College streets early Sunday morning. A court hearing is set for this morning.

Reward Offered In Polk County Overdose Cases

(Polk County, NC) -- An investigation into a Polk County drug overdose case is picking up steam. Five people were treated at the hospital after allegedly overdosing from a fentanyl-laced lollipop during a bull riding competition at the Tryon Equestrian Center last month. A reward for information leading to arrests has increased to 75-hundred-dollars. The general public wasn't considered to be in any danger.

Input Needed On Buncombe County Comprehensive Plan

(Asheville, NC) -- More feedback is needed for Buncombe County's new comprehensive plan. County leaders are in the process of completing a guideline which will set Buncombe on a path for development, health, policies and more for the next 20-years. A survey is available online at the county government's website to give input into phase three of the process, which covers policies and strategies. The comprehensive plan is expected to be approved within a year.

Mailbox Explodes In West Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville police are trying to figure out who caused a mailbox to explode. The box outside a Pearson Bridge Road home was destroyed late Tuesday afternoon. WLOS-TV reports a witness spotted two young men stop and place an explosive inside. No one was hurt.

(Caldwell County, NC) -- A wholesale grocery distributor is expanding in Caldwell County. Incentives were just approved yesterday for M-D-I, which plans to invest 35-million-dollars to add extra space in its current distribution center. Around 125 new jobs will be available as a result.

Update On Asheville's Memorial Stadium Set For Saturday

(Asheville, NC) -- An update to some Asheville park projects will be given this weekend. Crews are installing a six-lane track, as well as replacing restrooms and concessions at Memorial Stadium in Mountainside Park. Walking trails at the park are also being expanded. City staff will discuss more on the projects this Saturday afternoon at the Stephens-Lee Community Center.

CMS Adding Body Scanners At More Schools

(Charlotte, NC) -- CMS is increasing the number of body scanners throughout the district. The school system just announced it's spending close to ten-million-dollars to add more than 100 scanners in response to firearms being found on several campuses last semester. Some have already been installed at more than 20 high schools earlier this year. Around 70 school resource officers also serve CMS at this time.

Couple Sues Insurance Company Years After Ballantyne Explosion

(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte couple is suing State Farm over a home explosion. It's been three-years since a home in Ballantyne was forced to be destroyed when a neighboring home exploded due to a natural gas leak. WSOC-TV reported this week that the homeowners are now suing the insurance company because some of the losses and damages weren't covered. A 58-year-old man was killed in the initial explosion in July 2019.

(Raleigh, NC) -- The number of Monkeypox cases in North Carolina has now risen to 11. That from the State Department of Health and Human Services, which announced yesterday that the latest case was confirmed in Durham County. Health officials say the individual is currently isolating and those who have had close contact with him have been notified. Last week, the state of North Carolina received 444-doses of the Monkeypox vaccine.

Man Shot At Fayetteville Intersection In A Suspected Case Of Road Rage

(Fayetteville, NC) -- Fayetteville police are looking for a suspect who fired several shots into a vehicle Tuesday, injuring one person inside in an apparent fit of road rage. It happened around 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of Cliff and Prichard Roads. A one year old child inside the car was unharmed, but an adult male was shot twice. The victim's injuries were not considered to be life threatening.

Durham Police Release Identity Of Man Suspected In Hit-And-Run Of A Cyclist

(Durham, NC) -- Police in Durham have released the identity of the suspect wanted in connection with a hit-and-run on Sunday, that seriously injured a cyclist. Authorities say 33-year old Omari Newsome is facing charges of felony hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license and failure to stop at a red light. Newsome is believed to be the driver of a gray or silver colored Volkswagen Jetta, that was captured on surveillance video leaving the scene after the victim was struck.

Democratic Senate Candidate Leading All In Fundraising Heading Into The November General Elections

(Raleigh, NC) -- Figures posted on the Twitter account of Democratic Senate candidate Cheri Beasley show that during the second quarter of 2022, nearly seven-and-a half million dollars was donated in campaign contributions. That's the largest amount for a Senate race in North Carolina history. The report also showed that 93-percent of the contributions were for 100-dollars or less. Meanwhile, second quarter campaign contributions for Republican Ted Budd have not yet been released.

Little League Baseball Teams Traumatized By Shooting In Wilson, Invited To Spend The Day At DBAP

(Durham, NC) -- As somewhat of a consolation prize, the two little league baseball teams who had their tournament seasons cut short following a shooting outside a ballpark in Wilson, were invited to a day of fun at the DBAP Tuesday, home of the Durham Bulls. The seven and eight year old All-Star teams from South Durham and East Chatham worked out at home plate with batting practices, infield and outfield drills, followed by a picnic dinner. Organizers said they just wanted the kids to have fun without being afraid of gun violence.

Mistrial Declared in Murder Case After Disruptive Defendant Challenges His Fourth Attorney

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A mistrial has been declared in a first-degree murder case in Forsyth County. The judge brought proceedings to a close Tuesday after the defendant reportedly continued to interrupt and claimed that his court-appointed attorney was ineffective. Harry Lee Hunter is accused of first degree murder in the shooting death of Joshua Bernard Brown in 2016. He faces life without parole, if convicted. The court judge Tuesday told Brown if he refuses to cooperate with his next attorney, a judge will likely determine he has forfeited his right to counsel.

Animal Services Investigating Dogs' Attack on Woman

(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro police say one dog has been quarantined and another was shot because they reportedly attacked and killed their dog sitter. WGHP-TV reports 46-year-old Trena Peed of Greensboro was attacked by the two animals early Thursday morning. The second dog is being held in restriction with Guilford County Animal Services as police investigate whether any charges will be brought.

(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro officials have released their latest Community Crime Map. It allows residents to map and analyze data and receive alerts about crime in their area. First Case of Monkey Pox Noted in Davidson County

(Lexington, NC) -- The Davidson County Health Department has reported the first case of monkeypox in the area. Health officials say the person infected is currently in isolation and their close contacts have been notified. The first case in North Carolina was reported on June 23. The Davidson health department also says it's providing an available vaccine to eligible people.
