Deputies Make Largest Cherokee County Meth Bust
(Cherokee County, NC) -- A big meth bust is being reported in Cherokee County. The sheriff's office says drugs found during a traffic stop in July tipped off investigators to a suspected manufacturing operation. It was at a camper trailer in Marble where agents reportedly found 38 pounds of liquid and crystal methamphetamine, making it the largest bust of its kind in the county's history. Two suspects were arrested earlier this week.
Wanted Tennessee Woman Arrested In Buncombe
(Buncombe County, NC) -- A Tennessee woman charged with homicide is in Buncombe County jail. The 28-year-old was arrested in Barnardsville on Wednesday after she had been indicted by a grand jury for child neglect and reckless homicide in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Her two-year-old son died from a gunshot wound earlier this year.
Asheville Pauses Bike Lane Project
(Asheville, NC) -- The city of Asheville is holding off on a bike lane project. Initials plans were to designate special lanes on Biltmore Avenue between Patton and Hilliard avenues, but community input has initiated a pause on the plan. The city will instead focus on adding and expanding loading zones after the DOT repaves the stretch. The speed limit might also be lowered.
Woman Acquitted In Asheville Murder
(Asheville, NC) -- An Asheville woman is walking free after her murder trial. A jury found Amya Collington not guilty this week for the shooting death of Dexter Grant at the Pisgah View Apartments in June 2021. The shooting was reportedly escalated by a fight between two of their family members. The jury essentially decided the shooting was in self-defense.
Buncombe Deputy Charged With DWI
(Buncombe County, NC) -- A Buncombe County deputy is facing a DWI charge. The Citizen-Times says Jordan Rhinenart was arrested last Saturday after she allegedly drove her car off Moody Avenue in Asheville and slammed into two trees. Officers reported her blood alcohol level was point-one-two, which is above the legal limit. The 26-year-old has been working with the sheriff's office for a year.

(Asheville, NC) -- Some teens had a bit of fun in downtown Asheville ahead of the new school year. Parks and Rec held a free block party with music, games and giveaways in Pack Square Park yesterday. The first day of class is Monday.
Charlotte Pride Returns
(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte Pride is back. This weekend marks the first time in-person festivities have been held since 2019 due to the COVID pandemic. There were 200-thousand people celebrating in uptown that year, but it is expected to be more in 2022. The Pride parade will be Sunday.
Centene Cancels Move To Charlotte
(Charlotte, NC) -- A promise for thousands o new jobs in Charlotte could be a bust. The healthcare company Centene planned to invest one-billion-dollars and hire over three-thousand people to work at a new complex in University City, which us under construction. The company says it's changed gears due to the increased remote work environment, which is now used by 90-percent of its workforce. Construction continues regardless at the now-former headquarters.
Suspect Charged In Murder Of NC Deputy
(Burke County, NC) -- A man arrested in Burke County is facing charges in the death of a Wake County deputy. Ned Byrd was found shot to death outside his patrol SUV around a week ago. The suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Charges Filed After Man Hits, Kills Woman
(Gaston County, NC) -- Charges are filed in a deadly Gastonia accident. Police officers investigating a report of an assault at a home on Davis Park Road last weekend when they witnessed a man hit a woman with his truck. They say it didn't appear he saw her, but he is accused of driving impaired. Charges were upgraded to death by vehicle after the woman died on Wednesday.
Bank Robber Sentenced To Prison
(Charlotte, NC) -- A disguised Charlotte-area bank robber is heading to prison. A judge sentenced the man this week to at least five-years after he pleaded guilty to robbing four banks in late 2019 and early 2020. He was known to wear fake moustaches and wigs during the crimes.

Deadly Crash Along I-40
(Cary, NC) -- A crash has claimed the life of one-person and left several others injured. It happened yesterday morning along I-40 in Cary. Authorities arrived at the scene and found the vehicle overturned in a ditch. Three-adults and three-children suffered serious injuries. It's still not clear what caused the wreck.
Inmate Escapes Prison, Arrested
(Goldsboro, NC) -- Authorities have arrested a man who escaped from jail. Michael Wayne Glover ran away from the Wayne County Detention Center yesterday. He was taken into custody in Wake County following a multi-jurisdiction search.

City of Raleigh Gun Buyback
(Raleigh, NC) -- City officials are trying to get guns off the streets of Raleigh. That's the goal of tomorrow's gun buyback event at Mount Peace Baptist Church. Anyone who brings a working firearm is eligible for a gift card worth up to 200-dollars. It all depends on the type and quantity of firearm. All firearms should be in the trunk, rear cargo area or the truck bed. Raleigh Police will be ready at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Officials say there are more than 60-dogs, 19-cats, two-dozen kittens and a rabbit waiting on someone to adopt them.
