(Fletcher, NC) -- Another North Carolina Mountain State Fair is in the books. Organizers told WLOS-TV this year's numbers could set attendance records for the annual ten-day event. The previous record was just over 190-thousand in 2013. Revenue for rides has already set a bar for an all-time high.

Driver Charged With DWI In Hit-And-Run

(Haywood County, NC) -- The driver in a Haywood County hit-and-run is facing DWI charges. Officers say a woman was intoxicated before a crash in the Tuscola High School parking lot last week. WLOS-TV reports the woman has already been charged with driving while impaired in Henderson County. It's unclear if there were any injuries in the accidents.

Asheville Repurposing Site Of Monument

(Asheville, NC) -- The city of Asheville wants to know how to re-purpose a portion of Pack Square Park. A historical preservation society has mounted a legal challenge to the removal of a Confederate monument, but the only thing left standing at this point is the base of statue. The public is now welcome to give input on the site at the city's website.

Christmas Jam Returns To Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- An annual Christmas celebration is coming back to Asheville this year. The Christmas Jam presented by Allman Brothers' guitarist Warren Haynes is taking place at Harrah's Cherokee Center on December 10th. The new announcement doesn't yet include scheduled acts for the event. Past concerts have benefited non-profits like Habitat for Humanity.

WCU Ties School Record In Win

(Cullowhee, NC) -- Western Carolina's football team is setting records this season. The Catamounts scored 77 point in a win over Presbyterian College in Cullowhee on Saturday, which tied an all-time record high for the program. Elsewhere in the mountains, Appalachian State defeated Troy on a last-second hail Mary in Boone. The school hosted ESPN's College GameDay program on Saturday for the first time.

(Asheville, NC) -- Organizers are already making big plans for Asheville's Mardi Gras celebration next year. A big reveal party was held at Aloft Asheville Downtown on Saturday. The theme for the February 2023 event will be Out of This World.

Three Die In Charlotte Wreck

(Charlotte, NC) -- The highway patrol is investigating a deadly wreck on I-485. Three people were killed and another was injured in a wreck between exits 32 and 33 in north Charlotte early Sunday. Investigators have not revealed what may have caused the crash.

Uptown Cleared After Suspicious Package Found

(Charlotte, NC) -- Uptown has been cleared to be safe by the CMPD. A Hazmat team was called out last night after a suspicious package was found along South Tryon Street. Roads were opened again less than an hour later. Investigators haven't revealed what was inside the package.

(Conover, NC) -- The SBI is investigating the discovery of a shallow grave in Catawba County. Remains found at the scene behind a Conover home were sent to be analyzed on Friday. The police chief says it's been a while since the suspected grave was made.

(East Rutherford, NJ) -- The Panthers are still in search of their first win of the season. A late field goal by the Giants was enough to secure a 19-to-16 win over Carolina on the road yesterday. It was the second loss to start the season for the Panthers, and the team's ninth-straight loss overall. Carolina welcomes New Orleans at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday.

Bodies Of Man And Woman Discovered By ATV Riders On Trail Near Hillsborough

(Hillsborough, NC) -- Authorities in Orange County are investigating the discovery of the bodies of two people in a wooded area near Hillsborough. It happened Sunday afternoon along the 2300-block of Buckhorn Road, when two men riding ATVs spotted the bodies of a white female and a black male. Both victims were described as being under the age of 20. Investigators are categorizing the deaths a homicide, but so-far have not provided any information as to how they died or a motive.

Rocky Mount Couple Facing Murder And Child Abuse Charges In Death Of 1-Year Old

(Rocky Mount, NC) -- Two people have been charged after a one-year old boy was found dead inside a home in Rocky Mount. It happened around 9 a.m. Sunday on Paul Street, when officers received a call about a child unresponsive in a bathtub. The boy was rushed to UNC Nash Healthcare where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators discovered the toddler had substantial bodily injuries, which led to the mother, identified as 27-year old Sierra Eley being charged with Felony Child Abuse and her boyfriend, 30-year old Marcus Richardson charged with First Degree Murder and Felony Child Abuse.

Fayetteville Gun Buyback Event Results In 340-Firearms Being Taken Off The Streets

(Fayetteville, NC) -- The Fayetteville Police Department is reporting a gun buyback program over the weekend was a tremendous success. At the event, which was held at Kingdom Impact Global Ministries on Murchison Road, a total of 340-guns were bought and taken off the streets. Those turning in handguns received 100-dollars and people with rifles or shotguns were paid 150-dollars. 200-dollars was paid for the surrender of military-style assault weapons, no questions asked.

Durham Public Schools To Host "Safe School" Summit

(Durham, NC) -- The Durham Public School District will hold a "Safe School Summit" later today. Organizers say it will be an opportunity for parents to get a first hand look at updated prevention and preparedness plans for student and educator safety. The event will be held at 6 p.m. at Jordan High School. Registration is required in order to attend. A second "Safe School Summit" is planned for September 26th at the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability.

Three People Hospitalized After Drag Racer Leaves The Track And Slams Into Crowd Of Spectators

(Wayne County, NC) -- At least three spectators had to be hospitalized over the weekend, after they were injured by a vehicle at a local drag strip. It happened Saturday night at the Wayne County Dragstrip just west of Pikesville. Authorities say one of the cars veered off the track while racing and plowed into the crowd of people watching. The three victims were transported to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. They were last reported to be in stable condition.

Mmoh Wins 8th Annual Atlantic Tire Tennis Championships In Cary

(Cary, NC) -- At the Atlantic Tire Tennis Championships on Sunday, Number Seven seed Michael Mmoh defeated Number Eight seed Dominik Koepfer to win the final round of competition. A record breaking crowd turned out at Cary Tennis Park to witness the 8th annual event. Mmoh won 75-percent of his first serve points and saved 67-percent of the breakpoints to win 7-5 and 6-3 over Koepfer.
