Lassonde Industries announced yesterday it plans to build a new facility at the Mountain Home Industrial Park as part of a 55-million-dollar investment. The company specializes in producing fruit juice and other beverage products. Around 30-new jobs are expected to be added.

One Shot By Officers In Murphy

(Murphy, NC) -- A SWAT team shooting is under investigation in Murphy. Officers were called to a home Monday night after reports of shots fired came in. Investigators say the suspect came out of a trailer and confronted officers before he was shot by the Cherokee Indian Police SWAT team. There's no word if the man was armed.

Meadows' Voter Eligibility Turned Over To Attorney General

(Macon County, NC) -- North Carolina's attorney general is taking over an investigation into the voter eligibility of Mark Meadows. The former western North Carolina Congressman and White House Chief of Staff used an address in Macon County to vote in the 2020 election. A former owner of the home previously told WLOS-TV Meadows never lived there. The SBI has been investigating, and now turned over its findings to the attorney general.

Nurses Rally At Mission Hospital

(Asheville, NC) -- Registered nurses are continuing to rally at Mission Hospital. A group marched outside the hospital yesterday to highlight concerns over a shortage of staffing and working conditions. One R-N told WLOS-TV it's a continuation of what the nurses have been trying to address in rallies every few months. A Mission spokesperson says the hospital has hired 500 team members since September.

Man Accused Of Partially Scalping Victim In Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- A Georgia man is accused of a brutal assault in Asheville. Officers say he partially scalped someone earlier this month on Kenilworth Road. The APD also recovered a stolen car linked to a burglary. The man was arrested for more than a dozen charges, including assault, larceny and burglary.

Groundbreaking Held For Supportive Housing

(Asheville, NC) -- Construction is beginning soon at the site of new permanent supportive housing in Asheville. The city and its partners broke ground yesterday at the site of a former Ramada Inn, which will be converted into more than 110-units to help house those in need. It's expected to be complete by late next summer. The mayor told WLOS-TV the project will be transformational for the homeless.

Child Dies In Gaston County Shooting

(Gaston County, NC) -- Gaston County police are investigated the death of a young boy. A four-year-old died after being shot at a home on Cindy Lane north of McAdenville Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say the boy and a sibling allegedly found the gun unsecured. The boy's parents and another relative are now facing charges.

Jury Deliberating In CMPD Officer Trial

(Charlotte, NC) -- The outcome of a criminal trial involving a CMPD officer is now in the hands of a jury. Phillip Barker was charged with involuntary manslaughter after he struck a pedestrian in his cruiser in 2017. Investigators say he was traveling over 100-miles-an-hour with his lights and siren on. Union County Schools Approves Earlier Calendar

Two Wanted After Gaston County Armed Robbery

The Inspection Support Network used census data to place Charlotte at number-six overall for large metro areas in the U.S. The metro population of two-point-seven-million people represented an eight -percent growth over a decade. Raleigh came in at number-two.

Woman Who Forced People To Withdraw Money From ATM's At Gunpoint Arrested

(Orange County, NC) -- Authorities have arrested a woman who was being sought for a series of recent armed robberies in Durham and Orange counties. Investigators say over the last few days, 38-year old Alicia Moles forced unsuspecting drivers at gunpoint, to go to ATMs in Durham, Chapel Hill and Hillsborough and withdraw cash. Moles was finally taken into custody Tuesday night and charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.

Suspect Wanted In A Series Sexual Assaults At NC State Captured

(Raleigh, NC) -- A man suspected of committing a number of sex crimes on the campus of North Carolina State, was finally captured Tuesday. Police say 21-year old Abdullah Faheedmud-Deen matched the description of a person seen on surveillance video near the sites where sexual assaults have been reported over the last two weeks. Deen, who has also threatened law enforcement officers, has been charged with sexual battery and second degree trespassing. Bond is set at 508-thousand dollars.

Zebulon Police Officer Shoots Himself While Being Dragged By A Car

(Zebulon, NC) -- A closer look into the Monday night shooting of a Zebulon police officer, finds the officer mistakenly shot himself while being dragged by the car of a fleeing suspect. It happened at Zebulon Community Park, after officer Colby James pulled over 51-year old Deserie Byram on a suspicious vehicle call. During questioning, Byram sped away in a late model Lexus, dragging the officer about 50-yards. That's when James pulled his weapon and accidentally shot himself in the arm. He was treated at WakeMed for non-life-threatening injuries. Byram is facing charges of unlawful flight from law enforcement and aggravated assault on an officer.

Durham PD To Launch Its ShotSpotter Technology Tomorrow

(Durham, NC) -- After months of delays, the Durham Police Department is set to officially launch its new ShotSpotter technology tomorrow. The system uses acoustic sensors to detect, locate and alert law enforcement of gunfire in real time. The origin of the gunshots are shown on a digital map. The Durham City Council has approved 200-thousand dollars to test the ShotSpotter technology for one year.

North Carolina's Annual 'Booze It & Lose It' Holiday Traffic Safety Campaign Now Underway

In a game against The Citadel, Bacot hauled down 11 boards to mark the 62nd time the feat has been accomplished. (Greensboro, NC) -- Forecasters say our first true taste of cold winter weather is coming through Wednesday night through Thursday. A strong cold front will push buckets of moisture into the area. Thursday will see heavy rain throughout the day with downpours increasing in intensity and a high of only 45. Wind gusts will also be possible. About an inch of rain is expected.

Source of Fire That Kills 3 Children In Greensboro Being Investigated

(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro investigators are trying to find the source of a house fire that killed three small boys Monday morning on Grimsley Street. The three boys, all under the age of five, were found after officials put out the flames. State officials have reportedly sent a handful of items off to state labs for testing and say they're now focused on interviewing neighbors. They're expected to decide after they're done if criminal charges should be filed. The mother was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. A GoFundMe page has been started to pay for the boys' funerals.

SBI Turns Mark Meadows Info Over to A.G.'s Office

(Raleigh, NC) -- The State Bureau of Investigation says it has turned over its probe into former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows to the North Carolina Attorney General's Office. The agency started its investigation in March as to whether or not Meadows committed voter fraud. The former congressman reportedly had registered to vote in one county at an address where he didn't live. State prosecutors will now determine whether criminal charges are appropriate. Meadows served in Congress before he resigned to become former President Donald Trump's chief of staff, a position he held until Trump left office in 2021.

Person Stabbed to Death in Dispute

(Asheboro, NC) -- Randolph County officials say a person has died from their wounds after being stabbed Tuesday. Deputies arrived at the scene on Thayer Road a little after five p.m. to find a person who'd been stabbed, who died at the scene a short time later. Investigators say the incident stems from a dispute where the two people knew each other. Neither has been identified. Deputies say they're continuing to investigate whether charges will be filed.

Mad Driver Fires at Another in Road Rage Incident

(Rockingham County, NC) -- A 29-year-old man is in the Rockingham County jail after a road rage incident late last week. Deputies took Paul Michauskas into custody after he reportedly got out of his car on U.S. Route 29 and stopped to shoot at another driver. Officials say the other driver rammed his car into Michauskas' door in trying to get away. The driver of the other car wasn't charged. Michauskas was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
