WHEN IT COMES TO THRONES, EVERYONE DESERVES THE MOST IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

There’s one thing we can count on after the New Year, and it’s the Consumer Electronics Show.  When Christmas is over, it’s the gift that keeps giving for a few more days.  We can count on CES as a preview for the zany, the ridiculous, and what will be this Christmas’ big gift. Again, CES didn’t disappoint this year.  We lead off the first edition of Top Tech Stories of the week with Kohler’s Immersive Toilet Experience.  Their words, not mine.  Kohler has been trying smart kitchen and bath products for a while, and this year, they bless us with the Numi 2.0.  A toilet featuring surround sound speakers, ambient mood lighting, and Amazon Alexa support.  There’s nothing quite so special than being able to do your business while doing your business.  It’s going to be a refreshing 2019.

FOLDABLE PHONES FOR OUR FUTURE

It’s true.  Phones are starting to run out of tricks to keep people interested in upgrading to new devices.  Physics is making faster processor a slow climb, Samsung has tried curve screens, and every phone’s cameras are approaching iPhone quality.  If you needed a new gimmick, we’ve found it at CES.  Introducing the Royale FlexPai, it is the world’s fully flexible and foldable phone.  That’s right phone fans, you can fold this phone up and put it in your pocket.  Now, before you start thinking you’re Bernard Lowe and you have one of those slick tablets from Delos, this is a phone that rolls when it folds.  And you can fold it in your pocket.  Don’t get too excited, we really don’t know if it will be available everywhere, and it’s only available in China for the low price of $1,300.  Also, the camera is slow and most of us use our phones to do everything else except talk on them.

WITHINGS MOVE ECG COMBINES SMART ELECTRONICS WITH CLASSIC WATCH STYLE

Right now, I’m wearing to devices.  One on each wrist, and I look ridiculous.  I was told as much by a customer last week.  On my right hand, I’m wearing my wife’s old Apple smart Watch because I wanted to get back into tracking my fitness, on my left hand, I’m wearing my trusty dumb watch I’ve been wearing since 2006, because it’s just a cool, stylish, and waterproof watch. Withings Steel has debuted a watch+ECG device at this year’s CES.  I’d love a smartwatch with dumb styling.  I don’t really need or want the screen since most of the data I want can be sent to a phone.  This is a good looking device with a round face, and a standard, plain old fashioned watch face. There aren’t many design choices, and the band is made out of rubber, but it will send fitness data to your phone.  I’m hoping other watch makers catch on and update their offerings with a device like this one.
