Two Bodies Found In Truck Near Franklin (Macon County, NC)
The Macon County Sheriff's Office says two bodies were found in an abandoned truck near downtown Franklin. A state trooper checked the car on Monday on Jack Cabe Road, but no one was inside the cab. Deputies returned to the scene yesterday and searched the truck further. They found two bodies in the bed of the truck under a hard shell. The names have not yet been released.
Asheville Man Released From Hospital, Arrested For Murder (Asheville, NC)
An Asheville man is out of the hospital and now behind bars for the accused murder of his girlfriend. Officers reported to Walton Street early Saturday morning and found Alvin William Wilson, who told them he had harmed his girlfriend. They later found 62-year-old Tina Marie Knighten dead at the Overlook Apartments on Bartlett Street nearby. Wilson was rushed to Mission Hospital for self-sustained injuries. He is currently in the Buncombe County Detention Facility.
Henderson Man Facing Child Exploitation Indictments (Henderson County, NC)
A Hendersonville man is facing a multitude of child exploitation charges that could land him up to 40 years in prison. John Forsberg Jr. was originally indicted for charges related to the sexual abuse of a child in his foster care. Henderson County detectives later investigated deeper into Forsberg's actions and reportedly found him in possession of child pornography on his cell phone. He remains in jail.
Senator Tillis Meets With Imprisoned Pastor In Turkey (Macon County, NC)
A U.S. Senator from North Carolina says charges of terrorism against a Black Mountain pastor are false. Senator Thom Tillis visited with Reverend Andrew Brunson earlier this week. Brunson is being held in Turkey and is accused of taking part in a terrorist group. The senator reportedly told Brunson that the U.S. won't stop working to gain his release.
Rutherford Man Dies From Injury After Standoff (Rutherford County, NC)
A Rutherford County man who shot himself in a standoff this week is dead. Deputies drove out to a welfare check on Boiling Springs Road Monday night and were met with gunshots fired from inside the home of Joseph Green. The State Bureau of Investigation also came out to help, but could not stop the 52-year-old from shooting himself in the head. He was flown to a Charlotte hospital and later died from his injuries.
Child Poverty Affecting Many In Buncombe (Buncombe County, NC)
A study released by a non-profit organization is reporting almost half of Buncombe County children live in poor conditions. NC Child uses the annual report as a tool to push lawmakers to make a better future for the state's children. More than 20-thousand kids are said to be living in poor to low-income homes. Deputy Director Rob Thompson says the conditions could "lead to negative education, health and economic outcomes in the future."
