Burke County Woman Died From Blunt Force Trauma (Burke County, NC)
The Burke County Sheriff's Office says a woman found inside her Highway 70 home died from blunt force trauma. The woman was identified as 63-year-old Robin Berry Teague. Deputies came out to the Connelly Springs home on Sunday night for an assault call.
Ex-Councilman Lies About Being Doctor (Asheville, NC)
A former town councilman is guilty of obstruction of justice for lying about being a doctor while testifying in Buncombe County court. Milton Byrd served on the Fletcher council for nine years before resigning under a marijuana possession investigation. He appeared in court last year acting as a medical doctor on the stand even though he holds no medical degrees. The judge handed Byrd a sentence of three years of supervised probation.
Off-Duty Officer Charged With DWI In Banner Elk (Banner Elk, NC)
A Charlotte police officer is accused of driving while impaired while off-duty near Banner Elk. Tyler Kishpaugh was pulled over on state highway 184 after crossing the center line. The state highway patrol says he was charged with DWI after taking roadside tests and later refusing a breath test. Kishpaugh is now on leave without pay.
Forest City Shooting Suspect On Run (Forest City, NC)
Forest City Police are looking for a man who shot and injured another man yesterday. Investigators say a fight from Sunday spilled over into late yesterday morning. Witnesses told police that there was a group of people in the street when Kyuntrey Jones shot Rashead Hamilton in the pelvic area. Hamilton was rushed to a South Carolina Hospital and is expected to be okay. Jones now faces an assault charge.
Former Lincoln Manager Expected For Interim Buncombe Job (Buncombe County, NC)
Former Lincoln and Wayne County manager George Wood may be stepping in to serve as interim county manager in Buncombe. His name will be considered to temporarily fill the position at tonight's county commission meeting. Wood will not be considered for the permanent position. County manager Mandy Stone announced her retirement recently after serving for roughly a year.
Two Companies Open In Henderson County (Henderson County, NC)
Two new manufacturing companies are open in Henderson County. Norafin will employ close to 50 people to help manufacture non-woven textiles for firefighter gear. Demmel is also expected to employ about 50 people. The German company makes emblems for BMW and Tesla.
