Rep. Meadows Introduces Family Separation Bill (Asheville, NC)

Representative Mark Meadows of Jackson County is introducing a bill that would stop families from separating at the border.  He calls it a back-up plan if House Republicans' immigration bills don't pass.  Meadows says his Equal Protection of Unaccompanied Minors Act would ensure families stopped at the border will stay together. 

Gov. Roy Cooper Is Recalling National Guard Members (Undated)

Governor Roy Cooper is recalling three North Carolina National Guard members at the U.S.-Mexico border.  Cooper said yesterday he made the decision because of the policy that's, quote, "tearing children away from their parents."  In addition to the move, Attorney General Josh Stein announced he's joining forces with 20 other attorneys general in asking U.S. A.G. Jeff Sessions to end the current policy.  

Asheville Police Want Help Finding Missing Teen (Asheville, NC)

Asheville police are asking for the public's help finding a missing teenage girl.  Seventeen-year-old Cabella Hester was last seen on June 12th at a home near Cub and Bear Creek roads.  She's described as white, five-foot-seven and 100 pounds with brown hair.  Anyone with information is urged to call Asheville PD.

Ex-Fletcher Councilman Accused Of Pretending To Be Doctor (Buncombe Co., NC)

A former Fletcher city councilman who pretended to be a doctor during a drug-trafficking case is convicted of obstruction of justice.  Milton Byrd was sentenced to three years of supervised probation after a jury found he "willfully and unlawfully" lied about his educational background.  Byrd claimed to hold several doctoral degrees during witness testimony in a drug-trafficking case in 2016. 

Flat Rock Votes To Widen North Highland Lake Road (Flat Rock, NC)

Flat Rock is moving forward with plans to widen North Highland Lake Road.  The Village Council voted in favor of the plan yesterday, despite community opposition.  More than 100 people turned out to hear the results. 

Three Found Dead In Durham Pool (Durham, NC)

The ages and identities of three people found dead in a West Durham pool haven't been released.  Police say early yesterday morning they found two males and one female dead in the Chapel Tower Apartments pool.  "The News and Observer" reports that a witness says they all appeared to be teens.  This is still under investigation and more details are expected to be released later.
