Asheville Police are looking for a suspect who shot a man to death in Haw Creek. Witnesses saw someone running away just after the victim was shot while sitting in a car at the Spruce Hill Apartments. He later died at Mission Hospital. Investigators spent Monday afternoon combing the area for more evidence.

Residents in Buncombe County are being urged to keep their storm drains clean in the midst of more heavy rain in the forecast. The emergency services director says it could prevent areas like basements from flooding. Former Police Chief Accused Of Illegally Selling Firearms (Biltmore Forest, NC)
A former Biltmore Forest police chief is under investigation for illegally selling firearms from criminal cases. Buncombe County's district attorney and the new police chief requested the SBI to look into the accusations around eight months after J. Eric Tinsley retired from the department. Tinsley is now charged with willfully failing to discharge duties.

Rainy weather is causing problems in the re-opening of Highway Nine in Henderson County. Flood Damage Costly For Asheville Rec Facilities (Asheville, NC)
Late May flooding will cost Asheville more than one-million-dollars to repair area recreation facilities. Repairing one East Asheville soccer complex alone will require most of that estimate. The field stood under around ten feet of water when the storm Alberto caused torrential flooding in Western North Carolina. Money from the city's reserve fund will be used to pay for repairs.
Planned I-26 Project To Move Forward (Mars Hill, NC)
A frontage road project on I-26 in Madison County that's been stalled since 2016 appears to finally be moving along. The plan to build the Crossroads Parkway near Mars Hill hit a snag when bids for the project came in well above the funding set aside for the project. The DOT announced that the funds necessary to make up the difference are now secure. Construction could begin next year.
