Rainy, Icy Weather Moving Through (Undated)

Western North Carolina residents are being urged to keep a close eye on weather conditions this morning.  Places north of Asheville and up toward Boone have been experiencing some icy conditions in the overnight hours.  Traveling may be a bit dicey as rain continues to fall in the region.  Higher elevations in the mountains could see some snow later tonight.     

Son Accused Of Killing Polk County Mother (Polk County, NC)

A man is being accused of killing his mother in Polk County.  Jack Walker reportedly drove to a hospital in Nashville and said his mother might be dead.  Polk County deputies found Cindy Walker inside her home in Mill Spring early Wednesday.  There's no word on the cause of death.  The SBI is now investigating.   

White House Chooses Christmas Tree From NC (Newland, NC)

The White House Christmas tree for the 2018 holiday season is coming from North Carolina.  The winner of the National Christmas Tree Association's Christmas Tree contest is typically chosen to be displayed at the home of the president every year.  This year's tree comes from the Mountain Top Frasier Fir farm in Avery County.  Owner Larry Smith and his family are expected to be on hand to present the tree at the White House on Monday. 

School Districts Delay Opening (Asheville, NC)

Several school districts in Western North Carolina are delaying the start of class today due to weather.  Officials in Asheville City, Buncombe County, Henderson, and the Smoky Mountain district in Jackson County pushed back the start of school by two hours.  The schedules may change once conditions are assessed across the region  A winter storm warning is in effect until one this afternoon.  

Visitation For Teen Killed In Accident Is Friday (Henderson County, NC)

Visitation for a West Henderson High School student is Friday night in south Asheville.  Senior Lexie Moffitt died in a head-on crash in Buncombe County Tuesday afternoon.  A large group of students at West Henderson gathered for a vigil yesterday before school started.  Visitation is at Groce Funeral home Friday night, followed by the funeral Saturday afternoon.  

Hendersonville Teen Showcased On Awards Show (Hendersonville, NC)

A Hendersonville teen is awaiting her chance at stardom on TV's American Idol.  WLOS-TV says a one-minute video of 17-year-old Meghan Woods' musical performance was aired live on the Country Music Association Awards last night.  The CMA Awards and American Idol joined together to air videos of three finalists during the show and viewers had a chance to vote on a winner.  Woods is heading to New York in hope of being named the winner on Good Morning America tomorrow.  

Suspected Impaired Driver Kills Salisbury Mother (Salisbury, NC)

Highway patrol says a Salisbury woman was killed when an impaired driver hit her Tuesday night.  The 34-year-old mother was reportedly checking her mailbox on Airport Road when she was hit.  A trooper said the driver was charged with DWI after failing a breathalyzer test.  More charges could be filed.
