Fire Trucks Stranded After Bridge Collapse (Buncombe County, GA)

Six fire trucks are stranded on one side of a broken bridge in Buncombe County.  An engine from the Reynolds Fire Department was crossing the bridge when it collapsed during a call to a fire that badly damaged a Weaverville home Sunday morning.  WLOS-TV says a crane had to lift the truck out of a creek.  Crews are expected to be back this morning to repair the bridge so the remaining trucks can make it back across.  

Suspect Accused Of Punching Child At Mall (Asheville, NC)

A Black Mountain man is being accused of assaulting a child at the Asheville Mall on Saturday night.  A video posted on social media allegedly shows David Bell punching the girl as she came towards him during a fight.  The 51-year-old was arrested for assaulting a female under the age of 12.  The girl fell to the ground after the punch, but her condition isn't known.

Power Back On For Most In WNC (Asheville, NC)

Power is back on for most mountain residents in western North Carolina.  The weekend's winter weather brought anywhere from a tenth to a half-inch of ice to the region, leaving about 30-thousand in the dark on Saturday night.  Most of the remaining outages are in Henderson County.  Avery, Henderson, Madison, Mitchell and Yancey County schools are on a two-hour delay this morning.

APD Investigates First 2019 Homicide (Asheville, NC)

Asheville Police are investigating the city's first homicide of 2019.  A man was found shot to death in the parking lot of Rainbow Community School on Haywood Road early Friday morning.  The school delayed opening while the investigation was going on.  No arrests have been announced. 

Sheriff:  Man Killed Himself At Polk County Sheriff's Office (Polk County, NC)

Investigators say a man took his own life at the Polk County Sheriff's Office yesterday.  He allegedly told police he had a gun as they were bringing him to the office early in the morning on a suspicion of DWI.  WLOS-TV is reporting that officers tried negotiating with the man for several hours before he turned the gun on himself.  The SBI is now looking into the incident.  

Fire Rips Through Old Factory In Lenoir (Lenoir, NC)

Fire investigators are searching for the cause of a blaze that damaged an old manufacturing plant in Lenoir.  The fire at Broyhill's former furniture factory reportedly started after an explosion Sunday.  Renovations have been on-going at the site to turn it into a warehouse.  No one was injured in the blaze. 

One Dead In Mall Shooting (Pineville, NC)

A store employee is being questioned about details behind a deadly shooting at Carolina Place Mall on Sunday afternoon.  Pineville Police say it appears an employee of the DTLR store shot the victim during a dispute.  The employee turned himself in a short time later.  Part of the mall was shutdown during the investigation, although investigators said it was an isolated incident.

Roads In Danger Of Refreezing North Of Charlotte (Charlotte, NC)

Some roads north of Charlotte are in danger of refreezing this morning.  Winter weather brought significant ice to many areas of the North Carolina mountains and the northern piedmont over the weekend.  Governor Roy Cooper issued a state of emergency yesterday as thousands were left without power.  Charlotte skirted the storm with little to no ice.  

CMPD Investigates Fifth Homicide Of 2019 (Charlotte, NC)

The CMPD is investigating the city's fifth homicide in only two weeks of 2019.  Jermaine Moore was found shot to death at an apartment complex on Forestbrook Drive early Saturday morning.  Investigators say there are no suspects at this time.  

Eight Injured In Sunday Fire (Charlotte, NC)

Charlotte fire investigators say eight people were injured in a Saturday morning blaze.  It took around 30 minutes for firefighters to control the flames at a home on Chelwood Place near Archdale Park.  Investigators believe the fire started in a storage room.  The injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

Tenth Anniversary Of Miracle On Hudson Is Tomorrow (Charlotte, NC)

Tomorrow marks the tenth anniversary of the day a Charlotte-bound plane made a safe landing on New York City's Hudson River.  Hundreds of people impacted by what is now known at the Miracle on the Hudson are expected to gather at the Charlotte Aviation Museum to commemorate the anniversary.  Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger helped guide the plane onto the river after a flock of geese disabled the engines moments after take-off.  The museum currently houses the plane that was pulled from the river. 

North Carolina State Of Emergency (Raleigh, NC)

North Carolina is under a state of emergency.  This weekend, a winter storm blasted the area knocking out power to nearly 100-thousand North Carolinians.  Governor Cooper issued a state of emergency and said nearly a thousand Department of Transportation employees are working to clear the state of snow and ice.  The state of emergency declaration allows for snow clearing resources to be better distributed.

A Harnett County Man Is Accused Of Killing His Baby And Two Women (Harnett Co., NC)

A Harnett County man is accused of killing three people.  Deputies say on Friday, 24-year-old Kareem Taylor murdered his baby, the baby's mother and her adult sister at a home in Sanford.  He was on the run for about a day before he was arrested on Saturday night.  A minor in the home wasn't injured and spoke to police.  Taylor is facing three counts of first-degree murder.

Two People Are Dead, One Critically Injured In A Double Murder / Attempted Suicide (Durham, NC)

A man is in critical condition after what Durham police say was a murder and attempted suicide.  Police in Durham say on Friday they found a woman and her baby dead at a home on Suffolk Street.  A man was found badly injured, but his identity isn't being released.  Police are calling this a tragic case of domestic violence.

A Pineville Mall Employee Is Accused Of Shooting And Killing Someone At Work

Pineville police are investigating a deadly mall shooting.  They say yesterday an employee at the Carolina Place Mall shot and killed someone who came into a store and started a confrontation.  The alleged shooter has been taken into custody.  Police say the shooting isn't random.  Neither the victim or the suspect have been identified.

A Durham Man Involved In A Standoff Faces Murder Charges (Durham Co., NC)

A Kinston man shot by a deputy in Durham County is facing murder charges.  Deputies say they shot 33-year-old Chivalery Moore on Tuesday during a standoff on Tomahawk Trail.  His father was found dead inside the house.  Moore was released from the hospital on Saturday and charged with murder.  The deputy who shot Moore is on paid leave while the incident is investigated.

One Person Died After A Wrong Way Crash On The Highway (Goldsboro, NC)

One person is dead after a wrong-way crash in Goldsboro.  Police say the crash happened Saturday night on U.S. Highway 117.  It looks like a van was traveling on the wrong side of the road and hit a pickup truck going the opposite direction.  The driver of the van was pronounced dead and a passenger was airlifted to a Greenville hospital and is expected to survive.

Thousands People Impacted By Intense Winter Storm (Forsyth Co., NC)

There are widespread power outages after an intense winter storm this past weekend downed trees and power lines.  Some 30-thousand customers in Forsyth County were still without power last night, and several thousand others were in the dark in Guilford, Wilkes, Stokes, Yadkin and Rockingham counties.  Duke Energy says it brought more resources to the Triad to help restore power. 

Several Schools Closed, Delayed, Due To Weather (Stokes Co., NC)

Several schools in the Triad are either shut-down or closed today due to hazardous driving conditions.  Stokes and Rockingham County schools are closed, while Guilford, Surry and Davie County schools are on a delay.  Freezing drizzle this morning is expected to make driving conditions difficult.  Today's high will be in the upper-30s to lower-40s.

Judge Blocks Trump Admin Rule On Birth Control (Undated)

A federal judge is blocking a Trump administration rule that would allow more companies in North Carolina to opt-out of providing free birth control to women.  North Carolina joined 12 other states and Washington, DC to stop the rule from going into effect today.  Judge Haywood Gilliam limited the ruling to just the states involved, but a lawsuit against Trump's rule is going forward.  

King Police Looking For Persons Of Interest In Man's Disappearance (King, NC)

King police are looking for two people in connection with the disappearance of an elderly man.  Eighty-six-year-old Arzell Tuttle is believed to be in danger.  His vehicle was found on fire on Kentucky Avenue in Winston Salem on Friday, but Tuttle was no where to be seen.  Police say there's reason to believe he was assaulted, kidnapped or even worse.  Witnesses say a black man and a black woman near the area where Tuttle's vehicle was found abandoned.  Anyone with information is urged to come forward. 

Rallies Held In Winston-Salem Despite Weather (Winston-Salem, NC)

Police say rallies held in downtown Winston-Salem over the weekend were peaceful.  Groups for and against the Confederate monument met on Sunday afternoon despite the freezing cold weather.  City officials have ordered the United Daughters of the Confederacy to remove the statue, but they plan to do everything in their power to keep it up.  The organization, which commissioned the statue in the early 1900's, has until the end of the month to remove it or face legal action.
