Rockslide Shuts Down I-40 Near Border

(Haywood County, NC) -- Road crews are busy cleaning up a rockslide that closed I-40 in Haywood County near the Tennessee line. The DOT estimates that around two-thousand truck loads of debris fell on Friday. A section of the interstate is expected to be closed this week until the DOT is able to open up single lanes going east and westbound. It could be the end of March before the slide is completely cleared.

Three Rescued From Car In French Broad

(Mills River, NC) -- Henderson County sheriff's investigators say three people were rescued from a car in the French Broad River. WLOS-TV reported yesterday that the car was submerged off Highway 191 in Mills River. Two adults and a teen were taken to Mission Hospital in Asheville. Speed was believed to be a factor when it ran off the road.

(Washington, DC) -- President Trump is condemning any election fraud, wherever it may occur. He was pressed about the disputed election in North Carolina's 9th Congressional District at the White House on Friday. The state elections board has ordered a new election after an operative for Republican candidate Mark Harris allegedly tampered with mail-in ballots. Trump claimed there have been instances of election fraud in a "lot of different places, all over the country."

High Winds This Morning In WNC

(Undated) -- High winds are causing problems across Western North Carolina. Many counties are under a wind advisory or high wind warning this morning until seven. Winds are still expected to gust over 30 miles-an-hour throughout the day. Many trees were ripped up from saturated ground yesterday, which left ten-thousand without power overnight.

Newton Man Accused Of Shooting, Kidnapping

(Newton, NC) -- A Newton man is being accused of shooting a man and kidnapping a woman. The shooting happened Friday on Pinebark Court in Catawba County. He then allegedly kidnapped the woman, who was found safe a short time later. Derek Moser turned himself in late Friday night. The shooting victim has since been released from the hospital.

Marion Community Trying To Save Walmart Greeter's Job

(Marion, NC) -- The Marion community is showing support for a man with cerebral palsy who is about to lose his job at Walmart. WLOS-TV is reporting that the Marion Walmart is phasing out the customer greeter job of Jay Melton. Over five-thousand people have now signed an online petition to save his job. He has reportedly worked there for 17 years.

Two Dead In South Charlotte Shooting

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a deadly shooting in a south Charlotte country club. Investigators said a man and 15-year-old girl were found dead inside a home on Glen Abbey Way early Sunday morning. Another person injured in the shooting was last listed in critical condition at CMC Main. The teen was reportedly a student at Ardrey Kell High School, which plans to have support groups at the school today.

Charlotte Riots Murder Trial Begins Today

(Charlotte, NC) -- The trial for a murder during the 2016 Charlotte riots begins today. Rayquan Borum is accused of killing Justin Carr in front of uptown's Omni Hotel, where hundreds of people were protesting a police shooting. He turned down a plea deal for second-degree murder in 2017. It starts off with opening statements in Mecklenburg County Superior Court this morning.

Three Teens Arrested For Shooting

(Charlotte, NC) -- Three teenagers are facing charges in connection to a shooting in northeast Charlotte. A 15-year-old was injured on Reagan Drive Friday night. The CMPD says a 17-year-old was charged with assault, while an 18 and 14-year-old both face felony conspiracy charges. The victim's injuries were said to be non-life threatening.

Woman Charged For Voluntary Manslaughter In NoDa

(Charlotte, NC) -- A woman is being charged with voluntary manslaughter for the death of a man in NoDa. Officers said the man was found shot to death on the Matheson Avenue Overpass Saturday morning. Marchell Bright-Walters was arrested.

Ambulance Wreck Injures Five

(Charlotte, NC) -- Emergency officials say an ambulance flipped on its side in the Elizabeth neighborhood yesterday afternoon. The ambulance was hit by a car at 4th Street and Queens Road. Five people were taken to the hospital for injuries. It's not clear if any of those injured were being transported in the ambulance at the time of the crash.

Wake Forest Bicyclist's Death Is Complete Mystery

(Wake Forest, NC) -- Officials are trying to find out what killed a bicyclist in Wake Forest. Wake County deputies say yesterday morning they found the body of 51-year-old John Augusto of Raleigh beside a bicycle on Creedmoor Road. However, they say the man's body hadn't been hit by a car. Augusto's body was sent to the medical examiner who is working to determine a cause of death.

Man Who Was Beaten By Police Died Of A Drug Overdose

(Raleigh, NC) -- The community is mourning a man who was beaten by law enforcement in Wake County. Nearly a year ago, a video went viral that appears to show 29-year-old Kyron Hinton being beaten by three officers in North Raleigh. Hinton had filed suit against former Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison and another deputy, and received a settlement of 80-thousand-dollars. He passed away this weekend. It appears that Hinton died of a drug overdose. Friends and family said he suffered from mental illness.

Two Durham Cops Face DUI Charges

(Durham, NC) -- Two Durham police officers are facing DUI charges. The Durham Police Department says both officers were arrested while off-duty. They say Investigator Kelly Stewart was arrested for DUI on Thursday. On Friday, Corporal Paul Clark was arrested for DUI in Orange County. They've both been with the department for more than a decade and are both on leave while their arrests are investigated.

Wilson Cop Faces DUI Charges

(Wilson, NC) -- A cop in Wilson is facing DUI charges. The Wilson Police Department said Sergeant C.J. Sanders was arrested yesterday morning near the Highway 70 bypass in Johnston County for driving while impaired. They say she was off-duty and in her personal vehicle at the time of the offense. Sanders apparently had a point-oh-eight blood alcohol level and was going more than 15-miles an hour over the speed limit. She's been put on administrative duty pending an internal investigation.

Deadly Shooting In Downtown Raleigh

(Raleigh, NC) -- Police in Raleigh are investigating a deadly shooting on Capital Boulevard. They say a man was sitting in a car early yesterday morning when someone shot him. He was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, but he later died. Police say they don't think the shooting was random. They ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.

Cary Mayor: Beavers Causing Road Problems

(Cary, NC) -- The mayor of Cary is blaming beavers for a growing road problem. Mayor Harold Weinbrecht says the state Department of Transportation has been looking into a dip that's formed on Green Level Church Road near the Evans Farm Community. Weinbrecht now says it looks like a group of beavers built a dam inside two 72-inch storm pipes that run underneath the road. A sign has been put on the road to warn drivers while officials figure out what to do here.

Crews Survey Site Of Confederate Monument

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Crews are surveying the site of the controversial Confederate monument in downtown Winston-Salem. A handful of workers were on the corner of Forth and Liberty streets yesterday to take measurements of the monument. The City of Winston-Salem ordered its removal and relocation several weeks ago, but it's still not clear when it will be moved.

Elderly Woman Killed In Guilford Co. Crash

(Guilford Co., NC) -- An elderly woman is dead after a crash in Guilford County. It happened Saturday on U.S. 421 near Neelley Road. Troopers say 25-year-old Rhenda Massey lost control of her SUV and hit a tree. Her 88-year-old great-grandmother, Mary Massey, was killed. The driver is facing charges of misdemeanor death by vehicle, exceeding a safe speed and having unsafe tires.

McCready To Run In North Carolina Re-election

(Waxhaw, NC) -- Democratic congressional candidate Dan McCready will run in the North Carolina 9th District re-election. He made the announcement Friday. A new election was ordered last week amid accusations of voter fraud. McCready trailed Republican Mark Harris by 905 votes when the election ended. One of Harris's political operatives allegedly tampered with mail-in ballots. Harris has yet to announce if he will run in the new election.

Winston-Salem Police Investigating Disappearance Of Woman

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem police are investigating the disappearance of a 30-year-old woman. Kristen "Krissy" McNeal was last seen on February 17th at a home near Piedmont Memorial Drive and Winter Hue Street. She left in an older-model Oldsmobile with North Carolina license plates, number DCN-1576. Police say McNeal could be in the Kernersville-area. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
