A man from Rochester, New York was allegedly hit and killed by a car while he was walking on Monte Vista Road in Candler. Investigators said the car they're looking for is a 2013 Maroon Kia Optima with front-end damage.
Suspect Topples 60 Cemetery Headstones
(Robbinsville, NC) -- Graham County investigators are looking for a cemetery vandal. Deputies found around 60 headstones overturned at the Lone Oak cemetery in Robbinsville on Saturday. A female suspect was allegedly caught on surveillance cameras at the neighboring church. The sheriff's office said last night that warrants have been taken out for a woman who is reportedly from out-of-state.
Murphy Schools Close After Water Main Breaks
(Murphy, NC) -- Some schools in Western North Carolina are closed today due to water problems. Repair crews are trying to fix a water line break in Murphy. The Cherokee County school district says Murphy elementary, middle and high schools, along with Oaks Academy are closed today. The district is expected to update parents today on the schedule for Tuesday.
Needle Exchange Allowed At Asheville Business
(Asheville, NC) -- The city of Asheville is now allowing a needle exchange to operate in Firestorm Bookstore. The business and non-profit Steady Collective were issued violations last summer, but those were overturned on Friday since a medical professional will now be on site. Zoning for the property allows it to operate as a medical clinic. Steady Collective is a group dedicated to improving community health by reducing drug overdoses and the spread of infectious diseases, according to its website.
Buncombe County Elects GOP Chair
(Buncombe County, NC) -- The GOP has a new leader in Buncombe County. The party elected retired teacher Jerry Green to be the chair for the Republican Party on Saturday. He takes over for Carl Mumpower, who served two years as the party's head in Buncombe. WLOS-TV says Green was born in Madison County and was working at Black Mountain Primary when he retired.

Officers rushed out to a domestic disturbance call on Dutchman Meadows Drive and found the man allegedly set a bedroom on fire. A witness told NBC Charlotte that the man jumped from the house armed with a sword. The SBI is investigating after the man was shot by officers.
Suspect On Run After Rowan County Homicide
(Rowan County, NC) -- Rowan County deputies are looking for the suspect in an early Sunday morning homicide. Hayden Godair is being charged with murder in the shooting death of a 17-year-old in Woodleaf. Investigators said Godair may be traveling in a stolen white 1998 GMC pick-up truck. He's been charged with felony breaking and entering, along with larceny, in the past.
Suspect Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Two Women
(Charlotte, NC) -- A man is being accused of punching two women while trying to steal their cars in Charlotte on Saturday. The CMPD says the assaults happened at the CVS on South Boulevard and the State Employees Credit Union on East Third Street. He failed in his attempt to steal their cars. Officers were able to find and arrest the man, who was also arrested for assault and kidnapping a few weeks ago.
Port-A-Potty Provides Relief For Stuck Drivers
(Rowan County, NC) -- Drivers stuck in traffic on I-85 in Rowan County yesterday were able to get some much-needed relief. The DOT brought in a port-a-potty after a tractor-trailer overturned near exit 68. Traffic was backed up for half the day. The truck spilled a shipment of food for Harris Teeter, which all had to be cleaned up from the interstate.
A Former Raleigh Cop And Two Others Were Killed In A Small Plane Crash
(Franklin Co., NC) -- A former Raleigh police officer and his girlfriend are two out of three victims killed in a plane crash. The FAA reports that a small plane crashed into a Franklin County pond Friday night. The pilot, Brian Sjostedt [[ shows-JET] ], had been a cop in Raleigh and an investigator for prosecutors in Wake County. His girlfriend, Jessica Kenny and an unidentified friend of hers were both also killed in the crash. The cause of the crash isn't known, but investigators think the plane was in the air for less than 20-seconds before it went down.
A Man Faces Charges After A Baby Was Exposed To Cocaine
(Burlington, NC) -- A Burlington man is facing charges after a baby was found to have been exposed to cocaine. Yesterday morning, a one-year-old baby was hospitalized and treated for exposure to cocaine. Police arrested 38-year-old Gary Cotton and charged him with felony child abuse. The baby has already been released from the hospital. Police didn't say how Cotton was related to the baby, but he's being held on 25-thousand-dollars bond. The incident is still under investigation.

The cops were called after an eight-month-old child was taken to the hospital for cocaine exposure. Police did not say how the baby came into contact with the drug, but it's expected to be okay.
One Person Killed, Two Hurt In Greensboro Homicide

Man Accused Of Starting Fire At High Point Apartment Complex
(High Point, NC) -- A man is under arrest, accused of starting a fire at a High Point apartment complex. It started Saturday afternoon on East Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, across from the Washington Terrace Community Center. Police say the suspect broke in, set a mattress on fire and stole property. He was arrested a short time later. Only one unit was affected.
