SBI Investigates Forest City Homicide

(Forest City, NC) -- The SBI is investigating a deadly shooting in Forest City. Police went out to Big Springs Apartments close to downtown last Thursday and had to force their way in to a unit. The resident was found dead with one gunshot wound to the chest. Officers are still looking for a suspect.

WNC Teacher's Home Destroyed By Fire

(Henderson County, NC) -- A Henderson County teacher and his family are recovering from a fire that destroyed their home early Saturday. WLOS-TV is reporting that a heating lamp fell over and burst into flames on the front porch of the home of Ryan Koch, who coaches baseball and teaches at Apple Valley Middle School. He, his wife and their four children made it out safely. The home was on Saint Pauls Road near Edneyville.

Student Arrested For Threats In Macon County

(Macon County, NC) -- A western North Carolina high schooler is being accused of threatening to shoot up a school. Macon county investigators say a fellow student at Franklin High advised a parent about some threats that were overheard last Thursday. Deputies interviewed the 16-year-old suspect, who allegedly admitted to making the threats. An AR-15 was found on his property.

No Evidence Of Deadly Disease In NC Deer

(Asheville, NC) -- There's no evidence of a deadly neurological disease in the North Carolina deer population. The state's Wildlife Resources Commission tested out roughly three-thousand white-tailed deer for Chronic Wasting Disease between this year and last. So far the news is good. The commission banned the import of deer carcasses from outside the state earlier this year in hopes of keeping the disease out.

Proposal Allows Blue Lights On Cars Of Federal Lawmakers

(Raleigh, NC) -- State leaders are considering a bill to allow North Carolina's federal lawmakers to use emergency lights on their cars. The proposal wouldn't affect any state legislators. Members of the U.S. Senate and House would be allowed to use red or blue lights while in their home district in the case of an emergency. State Senator Floyd McKissick is proposing the bill due to the possibility of threats made against Congress members.

Strong Storms Expected This Afternoon

(Asheville, NC) -- There's a good chance of strong thunderstorms in western North Carolina this afternoon. The National Weather Service says some storms could produce heavy rainfall and isolated flooding across the mountains. Severe wind gusts are a high possibility.

Child Found Dead In Union County Home

(Union County, NC) -- Union County deputies are investigating the death of a child. A young boy between three to four-years-old was found unresponsive at a home on Senconee Drive in Indian Trail Sunday afternoon. Investigators say the child's mother was picking him up from his father's house. They don't know the exact cause of death.

Second Arson In Month Investigated At Charlotte Apartments

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is looking for whoever set fire to an apartment complex in the Hidden Valley neighborhood early yesterday. The blaze did around 75-thousand-dollars in damage at Hunters Pointe and took around 50 firefighters to control. The Charlotte Fire Department says it's the second arson at Hunters Pointe within the last month. They're trying to find out if the two arsons are connected.

Two Homicides Reported In East Charlotte Saturday Night

(Charlotte, NC) -- Two homicides that happened within a few hours of each other are being investigated in east Charlotte. The first happened late Saturday night, when one man was killed and another was injured in a shooting at Timber Ridge Apartments on Barrington Drive. Another man was shot outside apartments on Delta Crossing Lane about four hours later. No arrests have been reported in either case.

Playoff Chances Still Alive For Hornets

(Detroit, MI) -- The Hornets are hanging on to NBA playoff hopes. Kemba Walker scored 31 points yesterday to lead Charlotte to a 104-to-91 win over Detroit. It's the third win in a row for the Hornets, who are now only one game out of the last playoff spot with two games to go. Charlotte plays in Cleveland tomorrow night.

Company To Lay Off Over 160

(Charlotte, NC) -- Another company is laying off employees in Charlotte. Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company is letting more than 160 employees go from its Ballantyne office as it consolidates into other locations. The employees were reportedly told a year ago that the office was closing. Lowe's announced last week that it was eliminating 200 jobs at its Charlotte shipping facility.

Huntersville Man Sets Guinness World Record

(Huntersville, NC) -- A Huntersville man is a Guinness World Record holder again. The Raleigh News & Observer is reporting that Steven Langley was honored on Saturday for creating soap bubbles around 13 people in half-a-minute. He owns six other bubble-related world records through Guinness.

Storms Expected This Evening

(Raleigh, NC) -- Central North Carolina is in for some nasty weather today. Forecasters say a storm system is moving in, and the Raleigh-Durham area is in the line of fire. Thunderstorms, scattered showers, damaging winds are possible this afternoon. There is also a slight tornado risk. The storms are expected to get worse between four o'clock this afternoon and midnight.

Wilson County Woman Charged After Her Child Dies In Myrtle Beach

(Myrtle Beach, SC) -- A Wilson County woman is facing charges after her child died in Myrtle Beach. Police say on Friday night, a five-year-old child was taken to the hospital after an incident at a beachfront resort. Officials say the child died in the hospital. Twenty-nine-year-old Lortoria Pittman of Elm City, North Carolina was charged with child neglect in connection with the child's death. She was released on 75-hundred-dollars bond and is due back in court at a later date.

NCSU Football Player Suspended After His Assault Arrest

(Raleigh, NC) -- A North Carolina State University football player charged with assault is suspended. Police say on Thursday, 22-year-old running back Damontay Rhem assaulted a female. He was arrested by campus police on Friday. Athletics officials say Rhem is suspended from athletic activities pending the resolution of this.

NC Man Admits To Killing A Woman In 2017, Sentenced To More Than 37 Years

(Nash Co., NC) -- An Edgecombe County man is admitting to killing a woman found dead in Nash County. Police found the body of Glorika Townsend off of US Highway 64 back in 2017. On Thursday, 26-year-old Shantonio Lucas pleaded guilty to murder and kidnapping. Lucas was sentenced to 37 to 47-years in prison.

Police Investigate A Deadly Beating

(Rocky Mount, NC) -- Police are trying to find whoever beat a Rocky Mount man to death yesterday. Police say they found 37-year-old David Sandoval badly beaten, lying in the middle of King James Court early yesterday morning. He died shortly after police found him. Rocky Mount police have talked to one man so far and are still looking for another suspect. No arrests have been announced.

Zebulon Man Charged With Attempted Murder For Attacking His Girlfriend

(Zebulon, NC) -- A Zebulon man is accused of trying to kill his girlfriend. Deputies in Wake County say on Friday night, 34-year-old Christopher Griggs was arrested after he attacked his girlfriend. They say he was furious because a friend was texting the woman. She had to be treated at the hospital and Griggs was charged with first-degree attempted murder and kidnapping.

Six People Hurt In Winston-Salem Shooting

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Six people are hurt after shots rang out at a Winston-Salem nightclub. The shooting happened early yesterday morning after a fight outside Club Nova. Six people were hit, and a seventh person was shot at while trying to drive away. None of the victims' injuries are life-threatening. There's no word on whether any arrests have been made.

Suspect In Custody In Connection With Surry Co. Homicide

(Surry Co., NC) -- At least one person is in custody in connection with a homicide in Surry County. It's related to a body found in the Watershed/Pine Ridge community on Wednesday. There are multiple law enforcement agencies taking part in the homicide investigation, including several sheriff's offices and police departments, the SBI and the U.S. Marshal Service.

Man Accused Of Killing His Wife

(Kernersville, NC) -- A Kernersville man is behind bars on suspicion of killing his wife. Forsyth County deputies say it appears Jason Hyde stabbed his wife, Maiko, to death on Friday afternoon. He was also hurt in the altercation and had to be taken to the hospital. Police say Hyde was booked into Forsyth County Detention Center after he was released.

Suspect Wanted For Attempted Arson In Eden

(Eden, NC) -- Eden police are looking for the person who tried to start a fire at a church in the area. The cops were called to the United House of Prayer on North Bridge Street on Saturday. There was a broken window and "minor charring." Investigators say the incident likely happened sometime overnight Friday. Anyone with information is urged to call Eden PD.

Man Killed In Winston-Salem Crash

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A Lewisville man is dead after crashing into a bridge in Winston-Salem. It happened Saturday morning on Silas Creek Parkway and Bolton Street. Police say Clinton Tart went off the road and crashed into a support column for the Bolton Street bridge. He died at the hospital. An investigation is underway.
