A fallen tree on Gap Creek Road has knocked out the power to some 23,000 homes in Buncombe County.
Duke energy crews are on scene assessing the situation.
The Fairview Fire Department is also on scene working to get the tree removed so that line crews can get power restored.
As of 12:30, there was no estimate on time for power being restored.
Drivers in the area are being asked to use extra caution as many traffic lights are not functioning.
