Asheville Fugitive Killed By Officers In Tennessee
(Asheville, NC) -- A fugitive out of Asheville is dead in an officer-involved shooting in Tennessee. Asheville Police had been looking for Anthony Bowers since he drove away from the scene of a hit-and-run that injured a police officer last December. Officers in Greenville, Tennessee found Bowers hiding out in a woman's apartment on Sunday night. He was shot to death after allegedly opening fire on the officers.
State Senate Passes Gambling Bill
(Raleigh, NC) -- Sports gambling is one step closer to becoming legal in two western North Carolina casinos. The Raleigh News & Observer is reporting that the state Senate passed a bill yesterday that would allow gambling on college and professional sports in casinos run by Native Americans. The bill now heads to the state House and then on to the Governor's desk if passed. State Senator Jim Davis said it could add one-million-dollars in state revenue a year.
Pedestrian Killed In Macon County
(Macon County, NC) -- State troopers are investigating the death of a pedestrian in western North Carolina. The person was hit on U.S. Highway 64 near Saunders Road in Macon County early Tuesday morning. There's no word if the driver stopped at the scene.
Hendersonville Woman Sentenced For Selling Drugs
(Hendersonville, NC) -- A Hendersonville woman is heading to prison for a 20-year sentence for selling heroin. Georgie Mendoza was caught selling the drug to an undercover police officer multiple times in the summer of 2017. Some of the heroin was mixed with fentanyl. She recently pleaded guilty to several drug charges in Henderson County Superior Court.
Suspect Arrested In Forest City Shooting
(Forest City, NC) -- One suspect is charged with shooting a man in Forest City. Officers said the victim was found in the middle of Hamilton Street with a gunshot wound in his leg on Monday night. A 20-year-old was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. WLOS-TV is reporting that the victim is expected to survive.
Tree Knocks Out Power For 20-Thousand In WNC
(Buncombe County, NC) -- Duke Energy says a downed tree knocked out power to more than 20-thousand people in Buncombe and Henderson counties yesterday. A crew was clearing trees in Fairview when one fell on multiple lines and damaged a utility tower. Street lights in Black Mountain were also shut off for some time. The problem was resolved by last night.
Three Shot To Death Near Cheraw
(Chesterfield County, SC) -- Deputies are investigating a triple homicide near Cheraw in South Carolina. Three people were found shot to death at a home on Society Hill Road on Tuesday afternoon. The sheriff says that there's no threat to the public. No one is in custody for the shooting.
More Than 12-Hundred Teachers To Attend Rally
(Charlotte, NC) -- More than 12-hundred CMS teachers are now planning to head to Raleigh for a rally May 1st. Superintendent Clayton Wilcox says the district should make a decision by the end of this week on whether classes will be canceled that day. The district was closed last year when around two-thousand CMS teachers attended the rally.

Home Condemned After Two Dozen Dogs Found Inside
(Concord, NC) -- A home in Concord is being condemned after animal control officers say they found around two dozen dogs living in filthy conditions this week. Neighbors called Cabarrus animal control due to a bad smell coming from a home on Valley Street. One dog was found dead, while another was euthanized due to poor health. The remaining dogs were handed over for possible adoption. The occupants haven't been charged at this time.
Charlotte Woman Wins Big In SC Lottery
(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte woman is the recent winner of a two-million-dollar lottery prize. The winning Powerball ticket was purchased in mid-March at a QuikTrip on Charlotte Highway in Indian Land. She told the South Carolina Education Lottery that she told her son to go inside and buy the ticket, which ended up matching the five white balls drawn on Powerball March 20th. She plans to retire early.
Jury Considers The Death Penalty For Triple Homicide
(Wake Co., NC) -- A Wake County jury is considering putting Jon Sander to death. He was convicted this week of shooting and killing three neighbors in Raleigh back in 2016. Yesterday, the sentencing phase for Sander began, and the jury heard 9-1-1 calls by the surviving family members. The defense is arguing for life in prison, saying Sander has a number of mental disorders. It isn't known when the jury will reach a decision.
Man Wake Med Released Accused Of Attempted Bank Robbery Re-Arrested
(Gaffney, SC) -- A man accused of trying to rob a bank in Benson is behind bars in South Carolina. Yesterday, 46-year-old Ronnie Wessinger Junior was arrested in Gaffney, South Carolina. He had been in Wake Med since April Second for a gunshot wound he suffered from the attempted robbery. Benson police say Wake Med released him from the hospital before his warrants had been served. Wessinger is expected to be extradited back to Johnston County. Wake Med issued a release saying that this was a HIPAA issue.
Woman Accused Of Stabbing A Man In The Face
(Raleigh, NC) -- A Raleigh woman is accused of stabbing a man in the face. Police say on Monday, 21-year-old Dejai Volter stabbed a man in the face and chest on the 15-hundred block of Creekwood Court. The man was rushed to the hospital, but is expected to survive. Police arrested Volter for felony assault with intent to kill, and she was jailed on 15-thousand-dollars bond.
Twin Raleigh Girls Reported Missing Are Found
(Raleigh, NC) -- Twin young Raleigh girls reported missing are back home, safe and sound. Police say yesterday morning, the eleven-year-old twins went missing from apartments on East Millbrook Road. They initially suspected kidnapping. Police now say it wasn't a kidnapping, but they didn't elaborate. No charges are expected.
Cold Case Murder Arrests
(Robeson Co., NC) -- Deputies in Robeson County have made a break in a cold case murder. They had been looking into the 2002 death of 44-year-old Ronnie Locklear in Red Springs. They say 61-year-old Larkie Lowry and 51-year-old Jimmy Oxendine, both of Lumberton, were arrested yesterday. The pair was arrested after a thorough investigation of the homicide and a number of interviews. The motive isn't known, but they were both charged with first-degree murder, felony conspiracy and are being held without bond.
Death By Distribution Bill Push Back
(Raleigh, NC) -- Proposed legislation to make distributing drugs that kill people in North Carolina is getting some push back. Republican lawmakers introduced the death by distribution bill recently to make it easier to prosecute drug dealers who wind up killing someone. Yesterday, folks turned out against the bill, including family and friends of those who died of a drug overdose. Many say this bill might stop people from calling 9-1-1 if someone is overdosing, for fear of going to prison, and cost more lives. A Senate committee is set to continue considering this bill later today.
High Point Dentist Has License Revoked After Two Deaths
(High Point, NC) -- A High Point dentist no longer has her license after two of her patients died. The North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners revoked Shawana Patterson's license, as well as her general anesthesia permit. The board says she gave excessive amounts of anesthesia to at least two patients, eventually contributing to their deaths. Her practice was called Patterson Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, located on Phillips Avenue in High Point.
Details Released In Horrific Randolph Co. Animal Abuse Case
(Randolph Co., NC) -- Arrest warrants are detailing a horrific animal abuse case out of Randolph County. Sixteen-year-old Joshua Davis is accused of abusing domestic and wild animals and recording the abuse. In one case, he trapped a raccoon, stabbed it with a sharpened stick and nailed it to a tree. In another case, the teen strangled a cat to death with his hands. Davis is charged with five counts of felony cruelty to animals, and more charges are possible.
Teenager Accused Of Shooting Man In Asheboro
(Asheboro, NC) -- A teenager is under arrest in connection with a shooting in Asheboro last month. Seventeen-year-old Delwon Roberts is accused of shooting a 31-year-old man at the C Store convenience store on East Salisbury Street. He was arrested Monday afternoon after a traffic stop near Sunset Avenue and Spring Garden Street. Roberts is facing several charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill.

(High Point, NC) -- A High Point woman is accused of stabbing her lover after accusing him of cheating. Police say Jasmine Bostic stabbed Larry Ingram in front of children yesterday morning at Wood Crossing Apartments. She was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and he was arrested for assaulting a female. They were both taken to jail, and the kids were handed over to family members.
