(Asheville, NC) -- Western North Carolina is still dealing with clean-up from flooding. Asheville city officials told the Citizen-Times yesterday that there's no timeline to fix a water pipe that busted due to flood erosion in Swannanoa on Friday. Customers there are without water at the moment. At least four parks in Asheville are closed, although most of the water has receded. More than five inches of rain hit the city on Friday.
Former Asheville Star Declares For NBA Draft
(Asheville, NC) -- A former Asheville basketball standout is giving this year's NBA draft a shot. Jalen Lecque [[ luh-CUE ]] announced on a Twitter video Saturday that he is forgoing his commitment to N.C. State to make the step up to the pros. He played for Christ School before heading to Brewster Academy in New Hampshire this season. The point guard thanked both Christ School and Brewster Academy in the video.
Bar Co-Owner Removed After Social Media Post
(Boone, NC) -- The co-owner of a bar in Boone is being removed from his position due to a social media post. The Watauga Democrat is reporting Skip Sinanian was accused of making disrespectful comments about sexual assault when he made a post from Boone Saloon's account more than a week ago. His wife, who is also a Boone Saloon co-owner, apologized last week and says her husband is being removed from the corporation.

The company plans to build and operate six new solar farms, with the option to purchase four other solar farms that will be developed by separate companies. The Greensboro News & Record reported yesterday that the projects represent a 20-percent boost in solar energy. Duke believes it will end up saving its customers around 375-million-dollars in a 20-year span.
Mudslide Hits Asheville Home, Resident Safe
(Asheville, NC) -- A woman who was stuck in a south Asheville mudslide is safe. Skyland fire officials told WLOS-TV that the slide pushed in the basement wall of a home on Tuckaway Drive late Friday night. Firefighters were able to rescue the resident and her dog. It took gas crews several hours to fix a ruptured gas line due to the amount of mud.
Asheville Man Wins Big On Scratch-Off
(Asheville, NC) -- An Asheville man is a big winner on a scratch-off lottery ticket. Daniel Roberts just claimed a 250-thousand-dollar prize Thursday from the North Carolina Education lottery on a Hit 500-Dollar ticket. He bought it at George's Mini Market in Asheville. Roberts told WLOS-TV that he's going to take his grandmother on a dream vacation because she is his life.
Police Looking For Attempted Murder Suspect In Salisbury
(Salisbury, NC) -- Salisbury police are looking for the suspect in a Saturday night shooting. The victim showed up at Novant Health Rowan with multiple gunshot wounds and was later rushed to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center by helicopter. Investigators said he was shot at Brookview Apartments on South Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard. The suspect has been identified as Corey Sims, who is believed to be in the Mocksville area.
NWS: Two Tornadoes Touched Down Near Charlotte
(Lincoln County, NC) -- The National Weather Service is conforming that tornadoes touched down in the piedmont on Friday. The first one tore through Gaston and Lincoln County on a seven-mile path at over 70-miles-an-hour. One person was injured when a tree fell on a home. A second tornado was reported in Alexander County with higher wind speeds, but no injuries were reported.

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a shooting in northwest Charlotte. One person was injured on Timberbrook Drive last night. NBC Charlotte is reporting that the victim's injuries were minor. There's no word yet on any suspect information.

(York County, NC) -- A York County teenager is missing. The sheriff's office says 19-year-old Julia Petanga disappeared almost two weeks ago. She was last reported to be in the Fort Mill area. There's no foul play suspected at this time.
American Airlines Pulls Havana Flight From Charlotte
(Charlotte, NC) -- American Airlines is pulling its route to Havana out of Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. The Charlotte Business Journal reports that the DOT officially agreed earlier this month to allow the airline to transfer the route to south Miami instead. The passenger load on flights from Charlotte to Havana were just above 50-percent in the first half of last year. The route from the Queen City started after limited travel was allowed again from U.S. to Cuba in 2016.
Man Killed In Officer Involved Shooting ID'd
(Raleigh, NC) -- Raleigh police are identifying a man killed in an officer-involved shooting. They say 30-year-old Soheil Mojarrad was shot by Officer W.B. Edwards outside the Overtime Sports Pub on Saturday night. The officer's body camera wasn't on at the time. The circumstances around the shooting aren't clear, but state and city investigators are currently looking into the shooting.
Canes Play Game Six Tonight At Home
(Raleigh, NC) -- The Canes have another chance to tie up their first round playoff series. On Saturday, the Capitals shut out the Hurricanes 6-0 in game five. They play at home again tonight. If they win, the series will be tied up 3-3, and they will play their final game of this playoff round in enemy territory Wednesday.
Fort Bragg Soldier Dies Skydiving
(Oak Island, NC) -- A North Carolina soldier is dead after a skydiving accident. The Army says Sergeant First Class Justin Goff died yesterday morning at the Cape Fear Regional Jetport. He was apparently skydiving recreationally and his death is believed to be accidental. Goff was a Florida native, but was stationed at Fort Bragg.
Weather Officials Say Seven Tornadoes Hit Central NC
(Raleigh, NC) -- The National Weather Service is confirming that a number of tornadoes hit central North Carolina on Friday. They say the storm system that hit the area hard on Friday spawned off seven twisters. They confirmed tornadoes hit in Chatham, Johnston, Sampson, Moore, Orange, Edgecombe and Halifax Counties. A number of properties were damaged and trees were downed. It isn't clear if anyone was injured.
Report: NC Isn't The Best State For Older Folks Looking For Love
(Undated) -- The chances of older folks finding love aren't great in North Carolina. A new study released by The Senior List ranked North Carolina as the 43rd state in the nation for finding love after the age of 50. They looked at things like the number of eligible singles or divorcees over the age of 50, and financial health of those in this group. South Carolina ranked even lower at number 46 overall, but Virginia ranked fifth.
Two Children Injured In Suspected Road Rage Shooting
(Mt. Airy, NC) -- Two kids injured in an alleged road rage shooting in Mount Airy are expected to be okay. The Surry County Sheriff's Office says Byron Green is accused of shooting a nine-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl while they were in a car in the Flat Rock community on Saturday afternoon. He was arrested on several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. The boy has been discharged from Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem, while the girl is stable after surgery.
High Point Suspect Accused Of Killing Woman With Car
(High Point, NC) -- A High Point woman is in jail for allegedly striking and killing a woman with her car early Saturday morning. Witnesses told High Point Police that the suspect intentionally ran over Natavia Currie during an argument on Scientific Street. Lavoya McClain reportedly fled the scene, but later turned herself in on first-degree murder charges. She'll appear in court today.

Elkin Police Investigate Deadly Wrecks
(Elkin, NC) -- Elkin Police are investigating two deadly wrecks. A teenager died after he reportedly drove his car head-on into another car on Elk Spur Street Friday morning. A father and son were killed around 24 hours later when their car was hit on CC Camp Road near I-77. A 17-year-old was also injured.
Wake Forest Men's Tennis Takes ACC Title
(Cary, NC) -- The Wake Forest men's tennis team is heading into the NCAA Tournament with another ACC title. The Demon Deacons won their third straight conference tournament with a four-two win over Virginia yesterday at Cary Tennis Park. The team now moves on to defend its national title. Wake Forest will host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament beginning May 3rd.
