FBI Employee Found Dead In Graham County

(Graham County, NC) -- Sheriff's officials are investigating the death of an FBI employee in Graham County. Kathleen Miller was found dead in the Big Santeetlah area of the Nantahala National Forest a week ago. She worked as a forensic photographer in Huntsville, Alabama. There's been no word on the suspected cause of death, but investigators are calling it suspicious.

Franklin Graham Stop Brings Out Supporters, Protesters

(Asheville, NC) -- Reverend Franklin Graham's Tar Heel State Tour is now complete after a stop in Asheville. More than five-thousand people came out to hear his message at the U.S. Cellular Center Sunday afternoon. A group of protesters gathered outside the arena to denounce his comments on the LGBTQ community. Graham said during his speech that being homosexual or transgender is amoral. He's the son of internationally-known evangelist Billy Graham.

Suspect Arrested After Seven-Hour Standoff

(Asheville, NC) -- A man is facing charges in connection to a seven-hour standoff in downtown Asheville. Investigators say Asheville police found a woman with a gunshot wound to the hand at the Altamont Apartments on North Market Street Saturday afternoon. The suspect reportedly suffered a mental health crisis and refused to come out. The apartment building was evacuated, while surrounding streets were blocked off until negotiators convinced him to give up. The man was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

Driver At-Large After Deadly Hit-And-Run

(Blowing Rock, NC) -- The driver of a deadly hit-and-run in Blowing Rock is at-large. State troopers say a van struck a bicycle rider on Highway 221 last Thursday and fled the scene. WLOS-TV is reporting the victim died after being airlifted to a hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee. The suspect's Toyota Sienna van will most likely have front right headlight and fender damage.

Buncombe's' Chief Assistant DA Dies Suddenly

(Asheville, NC) -- Buncombe County's chief assistant district attorney is dead. District Attorney Todd Williams says 50-year-old Rodney Hasty died suddenly over the weekend. Hasty started working in the Buncombe County office 24-years ago. Williams added that Hasty's integrity, humbleness and kindness will be sorely missed.

App State Moves Into Rankings

(Boone, NC) -- The Appalachian State football team is making history. The Mountaineers cracked the FBS coaches' poll at number-24 for the first time ever after its win over Louisiana last week. It's also the highest ranking for any team in the history of the Sun Belt Conference. At five-and-oh, App State is one of 12 remaining undefeated teams.

Two Dead In Violent Weekend

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating six shootings that have happened since Friday afternoon in Charlotte. One of those turned deadly Saturday night when a 19-year-old man was shot on Idlewild Road. The suspect was arrested for murder. A 16-year-old was also reportedly shot to death while trying to leave a party on Linda Vista Lane early Sunday morning. There have now been 85 homicides in Charlotte this year.

Principal Arrested For Simple Assault

(Waxhaw, NC) -- A school principal is facing simple assault charges in Union County. Sheriff's investigators arrested Francy Zolke on Saturday night after an apparent dispute with her husband. He was also arrested on assault charges. Zolke is currently head of Waxhaw Elementary School and has taught at three other schools in area.

Burglary Suspect Shot By Union County Deputy

(Lancaster County, SC) -- A burglary suspect who was shot by a Union County deputy is expected to be okay. The deputy chased the suspect as he reportedly drove away from a home south of Monroe on Saturday. The pursuit ended on Camp Creek Road in Lancaster County. Sheriff Eddie Cathey says the deputy shot the man when the suspect said he was getting a gun from his car.

Plane Makes Emergency Landing After Leaving Charlotte

(Raleigh, NC) -- The FAA is looking into what caused a plane out of Charlotte to make an emergency landing. WSOC-TV is reporting an American Airlines flight heading from Charlotte Douglas International to Newport News, Virginia was forced to stop in Raleigh yesterday. The FAA confirmed there was a smoke odor in the cockpit. All passengers and airline employees were able to make it off the plane safely.

Panthers Win Fourth Straight

(London, UK) -- The Panthers are on a roll. Carolina won its fourth straight game yesterday while taking down Tampa Bay 37-to-26 in London. The defense intercepted Buccaneers' quarterback Jameis Winston five times. Kyle Allen has been under center for all four of the Panthers' wins this year since Cam Newton went down with a foot injury. Next up is a trip to San Francisco on October 27th.

CMS Teacher Of Year Featured In Volkswagen Commercial

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMS Teacher of the Year is being featured in a commercial for Volkswagen. Kimberly Tuttle of Levine Middle College High told WBTV that the car company set up a production outside her home in order to film her heading to class. The commercial is now complete, and Tuttle says hearing the kind words from her students brought her to tears. She teaches 11th grade English Honors.

Durham County Elections Board Rejects Challenge

(Durham, NC) -- The Durham County Board of Elections voted over the weekend to reject a protest that questioned a city council candidate's U.S. citizenship. The protest was filed against incumbent Javiera Caballero by fellow candidate Victoria Peterson, who claimed Caballero, an immigrant from Chile, had not provided documents showing she is a U.S. citizen. The Board of Elections voted unanimously to reject the protest, with Elections Director Derek Bowens saying that Peterson did not provide any evidence that Caballero was not a U.S. citizen. Peterson says she plans to appeal.

Driver Charged After Man Struck And Killed

(Durham, NC) -- A man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while rollerblading. It happened in Durham on Old Oxford Lane, where authorities say the victim was struck by a car that was passing another vehicle and crossed into his lane. He is identified as 24-year-old Dejan Foster. Police say the driver has been charged with speeding and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Mold Found In UNC Housing Complex Will Take Weeks To Clean Up

(Chapel Hill, NC) -- Officials at the University of North Carolina say a mold outbreak in a student housing complex will take weeks to clean up. The mold was found in HVAC units at Granville Towers, which houses nearly thirteen-hundred residents. WRAL reports some students have complained of health problems related to the mold. Residents have been told that the cleanup should be done by the end of the month, but could take until early November.

Orville Wright's Head Stolen From Outer Banks Memorial

(Kill Devil Hills, NC) -- Police are searching for a bust of Orville Wright's head that was stolen from a memorial over the weekend. The sculpture was taken from the Wright Brothers Monument in Kill Devil Hills, where the granite base it was mounted on was also damaged. Anyone with information on the missing bust is asked to call the National Parks Service.

Kidnapping Suspect Caught

(Greensboro, NC) -- The young woman accused of abducting a three-year-old girl in Greensboro is in jail. Twenty-two-year-old N'denezsia Lancaster was arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping. Police say she took Ahlora Lindiment from a playground at the Claremont Courts Apartments Wednesday night. The toddler was later found standing outside a Greensboro church all by herself. Lancaster is being held on a one-million-dollar bond.

Mother Charged After Son Dies In DWI-Related Wreck

(Eden, NC) -- A mother is under arrest after her four-year-old son was killed in a DWI-related wreck. It happened Saturday afternoon on Settle Bridge Road in Eden. State troopers say Shannon Hudson lost control of her Jeep Liberty and hit a tree. They say her son was not buckled up. He died on the way to the hospital. Hudson was arrested on suspicion of DWI, felony death by motor vehicle, having expired tags and a child seat violation.

Two Women Accused Ramming Into Crowd In Greensboro

(Greensboro, NC) -- Two women are accused of ramming their SUV into a crowd of people at a gas station in Greensboro, leaving one dead and three others in critical condition. Meranda Watlington and Fana Felton were arrested on one count of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted first-degree murder. The crash happened early Saturday at a gas station on West Gate City Boulevard. Zanelle Tucker died at the scene, and three other victims were left fighting for their lives. Police are still investigating a motive.

Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Vehicle In Thomasville

(Thomasville, NC) -- An investigation is underway in Thomasville where a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash. It happened Friday night along Hasty School Road.
