Another Legionnaires' Case Confirmed In Person Who Visited AgCenter

(Fletcher, NC) -- Health officials are looking into a new Legionnaires' disease case in a person who visited the Western North Carolina AgCenter after the state fair concluded. Around 140 cases have been confirmed in attendees of the mountain state fair in Fletcher in early September. Someone who came out to the late-September Asheville Quilt Show at the AgCenter now has the disease. A state epidemiologist says it's hard to tell exactly where this person may have been exposed to the Legionella bacteria.

Asheville Man Indicted For Fraud Scheme

(Asheville, NC) -- An Asheville man is facing indictments connected to a nearly-14-million-dollar fraud scheme. Hal Brown is accused of tricking victims into investing millions in his multi-media company, which he claimed owned more than 400 intellectual properties he planned to sell to companies like Disney and Apple. He allegedly kept most of the money for personal expenses. The Justice Department said yesterday he was indicted for money laundering and multiple counts of fraud.

Frost Advisory, Freeze Warnings In WNC

(Asheville, NC) -- Residents of Western North Carolina are waking up from the coldest night in months. The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for the region until 9 a.m., while Mitchell, Yancey and Haywood counties are under a freeze warning. It isn't expected to be in the 30s again in the foreseeable forecast over the next week. This section of the state could also see some rain trailing off from a tropical system tomorrow.

Missing Bigfoot Statue Found

(Avery County, NC) -- Bigfoot is back in the North Carolina mountains. It's been nearly two months since a six-foot statue of Sasquatch was stolen from outside a landscaping company in Linville. Avery County investigators told WLOS-TV yesterday the statue was found out in some woods in the Edgemont Community. There's still no word on who took the 180-pound figure.

Florida Man Accused Of Child Sex Crimes In Henderson County

(Hendersonville, NC) -- A Florida man is facing child sex crime charges in Henderson County. The sheriff's office says they arrested the suspect when he tried to meet up with undercover deputies on Tuesday. He allegedly tried contacting what he thought was an underage person online. The suspect was charged with felony solicitation of a child by computer.

Looping Trail Coming To Asheville Preserve

(Asheville, NC) -- A looping trail is coming to the Falconhurst Nature Preserve in Asheville. The city announced Thursday that it's partnering with environmental nonprofit MountainTrue to begin building nature trails in the eight-acre preserve this winter. They should be complete by spring. It won't cost the city of Asheville anything.

Indian Trail Mother Accused In Murder Of Newborn

(Indian Trail, NC) -- An Indian Trail mother is facing murder charges in the death of her newborn baby. Emergency responders were called out to the home of Khrystina Rice on Sunday morning after her husband found her bleeding on the floor. They discovered the infant wrapped up in a blanket inside a trash bag. Union County deputies say the nearly-seven-pound baby died of asphyxiation with multiple injuries. Her husband reportedly had no idea she was pregnant.

Pilot Dies In Union County Helicopter Crash

(Union County, NC) -- The FAA is investigating a deadly helicopter crash in Union County. The sheriff's office says it appears the helicopter became entangled in a power line before it went down near North Carolina 205 in Marshville yesterday afternoon. NBC Charlotte is reporting the pilot was spraying crops in the farming community. The pilot was the only one on board and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Body Discovery Investigated As Homicide

(Charlotte, NC) -- The discovery of a woman's body in west Charlotte is now considered a homicide investigation. Sixty-one-year-old Jennifer Ann Banner was found in the woods next to the Shoe Warehouse on Freedom Drive Wednesday night. There's still no word on cause of death. It's the 86th homicide of 2019 in Charlotte.

Some Birds Released After Crashing Into Charlotte Building

(Charlotte, NC) -- Some of the birds who crashed into the side of NASCAR's Hall of Fame in Charlotte this week are already back in the air. Carolina Waterfowl Rescue said Thursday that a number of the chimney swifts recovered quickly and have been released. It was Tuesday night when officials found around 300 of the birds on the ground outside the uptown building. Around 100 died.

Suspects Caught With 100 Pounds Of Pot

(Rowan County, NC) -- Two men are accused of trafficking 100 pounds of marijuana in Rowan County. Deputies seized the pot from a home, outbuilding and car hauler on Roseman Road in Salisbury Monday. The marijuana is worth over two-hundred-thousand-dollars.

Michael Jordan Opens Health Clinic In Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- A new health clinic is now open in Charlotte thanks to the help of a basketball legend. Michael Jordan held a ribbon cutting on Thursday at the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Clinic on Freedom Drive. The Charlotte Hornets' owner gifted just over seven-million-dollars to the project. The clinic will provide primary and preventative care to residents in a low-income section of the city.

Missing Fayetteville Teen Found Safe

(Fayetteville, NC) -- A Fayetteville teenager who was missing for more than three weeks has been found. Fayetteville police said Thursday night that 15-year-old Nevia Nixon is "safe and unharmed." The Fayetteville Observer reports the girl was found walking on Morganton Road around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Nevia hadn't been seen since September 25th and was originally reported to be a runaway. A statewide AMBER Alert was issued this week after police suspected she had been abducted.

Cary Police Investigate Shooting At Hotel, Man Dead, Woman Injured

(Cary, NC) -- Police in Cary are investigating a shooting that left a man dead and a woman injured. It happened around 7:40 p.m. Thursday at the Extended Stay America hotel on Regency Parkway. Police say the man was found dead in the parking lot and it appeared he'd shot himself. The woman was found with life-threatening injuries in a room at the hotel and was taken to WakeMed.

Raleigh Police Probe North Hills Car Break-Ins Caught On Surveillance Cameras

(Raleigh, NC) -- Raleigh police are investigating the latest in a string of North Hills car break-ins that were caught on surveillance cameras. A thief made off with 700 dollars and a pistol after breaking into a vehicle on Wednesday. People in the neighborhood say most of the break-ins happened around 1 or 2 a.m. but the most recent theft happened after 5. That has people worried that someone leaving for work would unintentionally confront someone trying to break into a vehicle.

Fayetteville Airport Celebrates New Concourse

(Fayetteville, NC) -- Fayetteville Regional Airport is celebrating its newly expanded passenger concourse that will open later this month. The airport kicked off a preview for state and local elected officials and business leaders with a ribbon-cutting Thursday. The new concourse is more than doubled in size and has two jetways and a ground loading gate, as well as seating for 125 people and expanded phone-charging stations. Fayetteville Regional Airport serves 500-thousand people a year with Delta Airlines connections to Atlanta and American Airlines connections to Charlotte.

Autopsy Shows Judge Died Of Fentanyl, Heroin Intoxication

(High Point, NC) -- Guilford County's long-time Chief District Court Judge Tom Jarrell died of "fentanyl and heroin intoxication." That's according to autopsy results released yesterday. Jarrell died on August 3rd at the age of 56. He was found unresponsive on his bedroom floor.

Woman Found Dead In Randolph Co. ID'd

(Randolph Co., NC) -- A homicide investigation is underway in Randolph County where a woman was found dead. The body of 44-year-old Soledad Ortiz of Asheboro was discovered early yesterday morning near Lake Lucas Bridge on Old Lexington Road. Deputies say she was shot. Anyone who may have seen something or who knows about the case is urged to call the Randolph County Sheriff's office.

18 Students, Two Adults Hurt In Bus Vs. Vehicle Wreck

(Rockingham Co., NC) -- A man is charged with reckless driving after colliding with a bus full of kids in Rockingham County. The crash happened yesterday afternoon when the bus was transporting Huntsville Elementary School students to an after-school program. State troopers say Harvey Newcomb drove his truck into oncoming traffic and hit the school bus. All 18 students and three adults were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Father, Six-Year-Old Treated For Smoke Inhalation After Fire

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A father and his six-year-old son are recovering after their home in Winston-Salem caught fire. The blaze broke out around 9:30 yesterday morning at a home on Butler Street. The father and son were treated for smoke inhalation, but the mother and grandmother, who were also in the home, are reportedly fine. The home's furnace is believed to have caused the fire.
