NC Congressional Lawmakers Vote On Party Lines In Impeachment Inquiry

(Washington, DC) -- North Carolina's congressional lawmakers aren't wavering across party lines in the impeachment inquiry against the President. As expected, the state's three Democrats voted yesterday to formalize the investigation, while the eight Republicans rejected it. Western North Carolina Republican Mark Meadows said the impeachment case has no basis in reality. Raleigh Democrat David Price said Republicans are grasping at straws, and the inquiry will reinforce a commitment to transparency and due process. The resolution passed the House by a 232-196 margin.

Democrats Say Teacher Pay Raise Isn't Enough

(Raleigh, NC) -- Democratic state lawmakers say a teacher pay raise passed by the General Assembly isn't enough. The North Carolina House and Senate approved a three-point-nine-percent raise for the next two years yesterday, mostly along party lines. House Democratic whip Cynthia Ball says the bill does little to address the underpayment of teachers. Governor Roy Cooper proposed a pay raise of eight-and-a-half-percent earlier this summer. The News Observer is reporting Republicans will agree to a larger raise if Democrats help override Cooper's veto of the budget.

Brevard Man Dies After Fall Off Trash Truck

(Buncombe, NC) -- A Brevard man is dead in a trash truck wreck in Buncombe County. Cody Gillepsie was riding on the back of a Waste Pro Truck that veered off Bee Tree Road and hit an embankment Thursday afternoon. He was thrown from the truck into the roadway. The North Carolina Highway Patrol hasn't yet filed any charges.

Two Arrested For Animal Cruelty In Mitchell County

(Mitchell County, NC) -- A man and woman from Mitchell County are facing animal cruelty charges. Nearly 20 cats, four horses and two dogs were seized from their property one week ago. Mitchell County's Animal Rescue says the horses were starving with a range of other medical issues like upper respiratory infections and open sores. WLOS-TV is reporting John and Ruthanne Taylor have since been arrested and released on bond for the misdemeanor charges.

Freeze Warning Issued In WNC

(Asheville, NC) -- Temperatures across most of western North Carolina this morning are some of the coldest of the season so far. The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning until ten a.m. Most of the Blue Ridge Parkway has been closed overnight due to high winds and downed trees. It may be a bit windy again today, with gusts reaching over 20 miles-an-hour.

High School Teacher Accused Of Sexual Relationship With Student

(Charlotte, NC) -- A 63-year-old Charlotte teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student. Emma Ogle has been suspended with pay from her position as CTE health occupations teacher at Garinger High School. She allegedly had a relationship with a 17-year-old that lasted from lasted from spring 2019 into the summer. Ogle was arrested yesterday on several charges. A former Gaston County assistant principal admitted earlier this week to having sex with two students.

Suspect Arrested For Murder In Bojangles Shooting

(Charlotte, NC) -- A suspect is facing murder charges for a deadly shooting outside a South End fast food joint. The CMPD says a man was gunned down outside the Bojangles on West Boulevard on October 21st. Investigators believe the shooting happened after an argument started inside the restaurant and spilled into the parking lot. Demetrius Shivers-Adams was arrested for murder in Augusta, Georgia yesterday.

Missing Man ID'd As Pedestrian Killed On Highway

(Charlotte, NC) -- A missing man is being identified as the victim of a deadly traffic accident on a Charlotte highway. The CMPD put out a missing persons alerts this week for Michael Pruitt, who disappeared on October 21. Investigators revealed yesterday that Pruitt was ID'd as a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a car on Brookshire Freeway a day after he went missing. A driver was allegedly unable to avoid hitting Pruitt as he walked with his back turned to oncoming traffic.

Tech Company Expanding, Bringing 200 Jobs

(Charlotte, NC) -- A tech company is adding 200 jobs in the Queen City. The Charlotte Regional Business Alliance said yesterday Stratifyd [[ stratified ]] is investing over three-million-dollars to expand its presence locally, leading to the job additions. The company is planning to open a 30-thousand-square-foot office in FreeMoreWest. It's the latest in nearly eight-thousand new jobs announced in Charlotte over the past year.

Metro Atlanta Plane Crash Kills Two Salisbury Men

(DeKalb County, GA) -- Two men from Salisbury are the victims of Wednesday's deadly plane crash in metro Atlanta. Leslie Csanyi [[ SAHN-yee ]] and Scott Lowrie took off from DeKalb-Peachtree Airport for a flight that was scheduled to head back to the Mid-Carolina Regional Airport. The single-engine plane crashed into a group of townhomes shortly after they departed. Csanyi had a commercial pilots license and owned CMW Manufacturing in Salisbury.

Some Neighborhoods Give Trick-Or-Treating Second Try

(Charlotte, NC) -- Halloween is lasting another night for some Charlotte-area neighborhoods. The rain washed away some trick-or-treating fun for kids last night, but that doesn't mean activities have been completely canceled. Severe Weather Pummels The Triad On Halloween

(Greensboro, NC) -- There is widespread damage across the Triad after severe thunderstorms hit the area. Heavy downpours and gusty winds uprooted trees and knocked down power lines in several cities. Thousands of homes and businesses were left without power on Halloween night. There were tornado watches across several counties that eventually expired. Forecasters say the storm cleared up by 10 p.m.

15-Year-Old Charged With Murder In High Point

(High Point, NC) -- A 15-year-old High Point boy is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of another teenager. Seventeen-year-old Ragsdale High School senior Kobe Manwarren was gunned down on October 8th near Triangle Lake and Hickory Road. Police say the suspect is a known gang member who has a record despite his young age.

Trump Honors Fort Bragg Soldier

(Washington, DC) -- A soldier who's stationed at Fort Bragg is the latest recipient of the Medal of Honor. President Trump honored Army Master Sergeant Matthew Williams with the nation's highest military award during a ceremony this week at the White House. Williams helped evacuate wounded teammates from a mountain as his unit was under fierce fire from insurgents in Afghanistan in 2008.

Greensboro Pub Gets Major Renovation

(Greensboro, NC) -- A Greensboro pub is undergoing a major renovation. Natty Greene's downtown is getting an 800-thousand facelift. Construction on the 100-year-old building starts Monday.
