Elections Set For Tuesday In North Carolina Triangle

(Durham, NC) -- Voters in several Triangle cities will go to the polls tomorrow to cast ballots in municipal elections. Residents in Durham, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest and others will decide on candidates for mayor and council members. Durham voters will also cast ballots on a bond issue for affordable housing. Citizens of Orange County will select school board members. The polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Divided General Assembly Adjourns With No New Budget

(Raleigh, NC) -- After one of the longest legislative sessions in history, the North Carolina legislature adjourned last Thursday without a new budget. Lawmakers, divided along party lines, were unable to break a gridlock over Medicaid expansion, teacher pay raises, district maps and tax cuts. It is the first time the General Assembly has adjourned without passing a new budget. North Carolina law allows the state to continue operating under the existing budget, until a new one is enacted.

More Shootings In Durham Following Peace Rally

(Durham, NC) -- Just hours after two 'Stop The Violence' peace rallies were held in Durham Saturday, another victim was shot and wounded. It happened around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Angier Avenue and East Main Street. Police say they victim's injuries were not life threatening. Last week there were at least six shootings in Durham, two of them fatal. Investigators blame gangs for the recent spike in gun violence.

Boy Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle In Front Of Church

(Oak Ridge, NC) -- An eleven-year old boy who was struck by a vehicle while attending a Halloween event, died of his injuries Sunday. Noah Isaac Chambers, of Stokesdale, was attempting to cross the street in front of the Bethel United Methodist Church Friday night, when he was struck by a Jeep SUV. The driver stayed on the scene. Chambers was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remained in critical condition on life support until about 12:30 p.m. Sunday. After several brain tests, he was pronounced dead.

Drive-By Shooting Sends One To The Hospital In Greensboro

(Greensboro, NC) -- One person remains hospitalized today following a drive-by shooting in Greensboro Sunday. It happened around 4 p.m. in the 15-hundred block of Woodmere Drive. Police responded to a call of an aggravated assault as a result of a drive-by. They arrived to find the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he is now listed in stable condition.

Heads Up For Road Closure To Repair Bridge

(Johnathan Creek, NC) -- The North Carolina Department of Transportation has released a notice to motorists that a section of Interstate 40 will be closed for up to five days in order to repair a bridge. Depending on the weather, the emergency closure will take place between November 6 and November 22 to repair the bridge over Johnathan Creek and White Oak Road. The Department anticipates closing both westbound lanes of Interstate 40 between the U.S. 270 interchange at Exit 20 and the Tennessee state line.

CMPD Looking For Man Who Attacked Woman Along Greenway

(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman on a north Charlotte greenway. Police say the man strangled and robbed the woman at the Mallard Creek Greenway, off Mallard Creek Church Road yesterday afternoon. Authorities have not yet released a description of the attacker.

CMPD Officer Recovering From Crash

(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer is recovering after a crash. Officer Tangelia Bynoe was rushed to the hospital yesterday morning after being hit by a pickup truck that ran a red light at the intersection of West W.T. Harris Boulevard and Medical Plaza Drive. Police say they don't believe impairment or speed were factors in the crash. The driver of the pickup was not injured.

CMPD Officer On Leave After Firing Weapon

(Charlotte, NC) -- A CMPD officer is on administrative leave after firing her gun during an investigation in north Charlotte. A Gastonia officer was also shot in the arm while serving a search warrant on Friday at a home on Oakburn Drive, near Old Statesville Ave. The task force, which included the FBI, deals with violent crimes. A man arrested during the investigation is being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Dogs Stolen From Animal Rescue, Reward Offered

(Undated) -- A Charlotte-based animal rescue is asking for help after a pair of dogs were stolen. Freedom Farm Rescue says the two dogs were taken from a foster home in the Galleria Mall area of Rock Hill Saturday afternoon. Freedom Farm officials say the dogs were taken after someone cut a padlock off of a fence. A two-thousand-dollar reward is being offered for information.

(Charlotte, NC) -- The Panthers are 5-and-3 after beating the Tennessee Titans, 30-20. Christian McCaffery powered the Panthers, rolling up 166 total yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns. Kyle Allen completed 17-of-32 passes with two TDs and an interception during yesterday's win. Carolina will next face the Packers in Green Bay on Sunday.

Van Flips Over On Way To Panthers Game

(Salisbury, NC) -- Authorities say a van full of college students heading to the Panthers game flipped over in a crash. It happened in Salisbury, where police say the van flipped after colliding with another vehicle. The students were lacrosse players at Catawba College, who were heading to the game to sell concessions for a fundraiser. Officials say nobody was seriously injured in the wreck.

Two Men Shot Near Triangle Town Center

(Raleigh, NC) -- Raleigh police say two men were shot on the northeast side yesterday. Authorities say it happened at an apartment complex near Triangle Town Center, but no additional details have been released. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Raleigh Crime Stoppers.

Fake Cop Joined Real Police Chase

(Wilson, NC) -- Police in Wilson arrested a man this week after he allegedly pretended to be an officer during a police chase. Authorities say 30-year-old David Adams joined the chase while driving a Ford Taurus with blue lights and forced the suspect's car to stop. Adams then allegedly ordered everyone out of the car at gunpoint and handcuffed them, even though officers at the scene told him to stop. Officials say Adams left before police could talk to him, but they later determined he was not a "sworn law enforcement officer."

Wolfpack Fall To Demon Deacons

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- The North Carolina State Wolfpack were smacked by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this past weekend, losing forty-four to ten. Jamie Newman shined for the Deacons, throwing for 287 yards and three touchdowns while running in two more. The now four and four Wolfpack will be thinking about an upset this Saturday when they host the undefeated Clemson Tigers.

Sixth Grader Killed By Church In Oak Ridge

(Oak Ridge, NC) -- An 11-year-old boy is dead after being struck by an SUV Friday. Sixth grader Noah Chambers of Stokesdale was hit around 7 p.m. in front of Bethel United Methodist Church on Haw River Road in Oak Ridge. Authorities said a group of kids were crossing the street when he was hit. A trunk-or-treat event was happening at the church at the time.

Former Senator Kay Hagan Remembered At Funeral

(Greensboro, NC) -- The funeral for former Shelby-native and U-S Senator Kay Hagan was held on Sunday. She had died earlier in the week from complications from Powassan virus. Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill said Hagan was always doing what she knew was right for her state. Her son, Tilden Hagan the Fourth, said she wanted everyone to know they were special and she had to say a personal goodbye.

Foxx Looking To Renew IFB's Contract With Veterans' Affairs

(Washington, DC) -- As IFB Solutions' federal optical contracts expire, U-S Representative Virginia Foxx is co-sponsoring a bill to reinstate the work. The local Republican submitted H-R 4920 on Wednesday which will reform laws for contracts with Veterans Affairs so that "Ability One contracts held prior to 2006 continue to be eligible for renewal." I-F-B, a Winston-Salem company, is the largest employer of the blind in the U-S.

Drive-By Shooting Sends One To Hospital

(Greensboro, NC) -- A person is in stable condition following a drive-by shooting in Greensboro. According to authorities, police responded to an aggravated assault on Woodmere Drive around 4 p.m. and the victim was taken to the hospital. No information on the suspect was given.

Freeze Warning In Effect For Triad

(Undated) -- The National Weather Service is issuing another freeze warning for the Triad until mid-morning Monday. Temperatures hovered around freezing overnight as frost and freezing conditions killed crops and other sensitive vegetation. Mondays forecast called for a high near 60 with increasing clouds.
