(Washington, DC) -- Donald Trump is the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. The House voted last night to impeach Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Western North Carolina Republican Mark Meadows said Democrats voted to impeach the president for a crime they couldn't find and a case they couldn't prove. The state's delegation, like almost all other U.S. representatives, voted along party lines. Charlotte Democrat Alma Adams said Trump's behavior poses a clear and present danger to our democracy.
Asheville High Principal On Leave During Sex Offense Investigation
(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville High School's principal is on administrative leave amid an alleged sex offense investigation. WLOS-TV is reporting Asheville Police are looking into actions by Jesse Dingle involving an adult off-campus. There have been no charges filed at this time as the investigation continues. Assistant Superintendent Mark Dickerson will serve as interim principal in the meantime.
Buncombe Seeking 600K From Former Manager, Commissioner
(Buncombe County, NC) -- Buncombe County is seeking almost 600-thousand-dollars from a former county manager and commissioner. WLOS-TV says that's how much the county claims Wanda Greene and Ellen Frost must pay back for using public funds in equestrian events. Frost was indicted for conspiracy and fraud in connection to the case this summer. A civil complaint was filed near the end of November.
Buncombe County Settles In Overdose Death
(Buncombe County, NC) -- The family of a Buncombe County jail inmate who died from an overdose is being awarded two-million-dollars. The lawsuit claimed Michele Smiley told jail staff she ingested a lot of meth after she was arrested for a probation violation two years ago. She died a short time after being placed in a cell, where the suit alleges she was in great distress and checked on only twice. Buncombe County agreed to the settlement at the federal courthouse yesterday.
Next Superintendent Named For Asheville City Schools
(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville City Schools has its next superintendent. Gene Freeman was introduced at the central office yesterday after a unanimous board of education vote. He has been serving as a superintendent in western Pennsylvania for the past six years. Interim superintendent Bobbie Short will remain in the position until Freeman takes over on July 1st.
NCDOT To Stop Lane Closures For Holiday Travel
(Raleigh, NC) -- The DOT is trying to make it easier for drivers heading through North Carolina this holiday season. The agency says all construction work that requires lane closures will be suspended from tomorrow through January 2nd. Traffic is expected to pick-up on major highways this weekend. Triple-A is predicting around three-point-three-million North Carolinians will travel during the period.
Police Investigating Cars Shot
(Raleigh, NC) -- Police are investigating after cars were shot into at Poole Road and Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard. Two people were injured by glass debris in the shooting. Much of Poole Road was closed in that area yesterday afternoon.

(Garner, NC) -- A 17-year-old is injured after a Garner shooting. Police say it happened near Atchinson Drive and November Street yesterday. The teen's injury is believed to be non-life-threatening.
Man Dies After Weekend Fight At Raleigh Nightclub
(Raleigh, NC) -- A man is dead after a weekend fight at a Raleigh nightclub. Forty-seven-year-old Eric Freeman was shot at Paris Lounge around 2 a.m. on Sunday. He later died at WakeMed. Two others were injured in the incident, which included stabbing in addition to the shooting.
New Report Shows Rent Prices Increase 53% In Raleigh This Decade
(Raleigh, NC) -- A new report shows rent prices have been going up in Raleigh. Using U.S. Census Bureau data, rent went up 36-percent between 2010 to 2019 nationally. In Raleigh, the increase was 53-percent. Though the cost went up, the living spaces increased in size as well.
Wake County Firearms Training Center To Close To The Public In 2020
(Raleigh, NC) -- A Wake County firearms training center will be closed to the public in 2020. The sheriff's office will be ending their contract with Range Safety Management. They cited a lack of profitability as the reason. They say they will continue to look into how to use a training center while saving taxpayer money.

(Washington, DC) -- The House has voted to impeach President Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. House Democrats made their decision yesterday, saying President Trump abused his office by pressuring Ukraine to investigate his political rivals. North Carolina Representative Patrick McHenry said their case against the President was weak. It's unlikely Trump will be removed from office when the Republican-led Senate holds an impeachment trial.
Teenager Identified As Greensboro Shooting Victim
(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro police are identifying the person killed in a shooting on South Holden Road. Eighteen-year-old Tymier Starks was riding in a car near Swan Street yesterday afternoon when he was shot and killed. Police say he was a passenger. The suspects took off in a white car with tinted windows. Anyone with information is urged to call police.
Two People Charged With Murder In Baby's Death
(Archdale, NC) -- An Archdale man and woman are charged with murder in the death of a baby. Billy Newsome and Kendra Johnson are also charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury. Emergency crews responded to a home on November 9th when the four-month-old stopped breathing. The baby was rushed to the hospital where it died three days later. Newsome was arrested yesterday at a hotel in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Johnson was taken into custody in Lexington.
High Point Man, Woman Arrested After Child Found Sitting On Pound Of Meth
(Davidson Co., NC) -- A High Point couple is facing several drug charges after their child was found sitting on a pound of meth during a traffic stop. Davidson County deputies arrested Jasmere and Taijidomonic Wynn on Sunday. They're also facing child abuse charges. The couple is due in court on January 24th.
'The Voice' Winner To Sing National Anthem At Panthers' Final Home Game
(Charlotte, NC) -- The latest winner of NBC's "The Voice" will sing the National Anthem at the Carolina Panthers' final home game of the season. Jake Hoot is a self-described, diehard Panthers fan. He will sing the National Anthem on December 29th when the Panthers take on the New Orleans Saints at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
