(Asheville, NC) -- North Carolina troopers are investigating a deadly wreck in Asheville. One woman was killed yesterday when a driver reportedly crossed the center line on Tunnel Road, causing a head-on collision. Three children in the woman's car were injured. Investigators say they believe the driver who caused the wreck was impaired.
Privatization Of Liquor Sales To Be Tabled Again
(Raleigh, NC) -- A proposal to privatize liquor sales in North Carolina will most likely be pushed back again. Hendersonville lawmaker Chuck McGrady sponsored a bill last year that would allow privately owned stores to take over liquor sales, but it didn't make it out of committee. He told the News and Observer that the plan still needs tweaking, and will most likely not surface during this year's short session. The state's ABC commission would still regulate liquor sales in the proposal.
Eight Suspects Arrested In Henderson County Drug Investigation
(Henderson County, NC) -- Eight suspects are facing charges in a Henderson County drug trafficking investigation. The sheriff's office told WLOS-TV that Dax Suarez was arrested last month with a pound of meth. They say he was a large supplier of the drug in the area. Suarez was released from jail, but detectives continued to monitor him. He and seven others were arrested last week on various charges, including trafficking.
Black Mountain Alderman Dies
(Black Mountain, NC) -- The Black Mountain community is mourning the loss of an alderman. Sixty-four-year-old Carlos Showers died yesterday after a battle with cancer. WLOS-TV says he was Black Mountain's second African-American to serve on the town board. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with medical expenses.
Winter Weather May Cause Road Troubles

Charlotte Murder Suspect Kills Self In Front Of Officers
(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte murder suspect is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Adelbert Redo allegedly turned the gun on himself when CMPD officers came out to a Pine Street home to serve warrants yesterday. He had been accused of driving drunk in a crash that killed one person and injured three others in 2017.
One-Year-Old's Death Investigated By CMPD
(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is looking into the suspicious death of a one-year-old in north Charlotte. The child died at a home on Canterwood Drive Saturday night. NBC Charlotte says a search warrant revealed there was evidence of murder at the scene. The cause of death hasn't been released.
Airline Employee Sues Over Death
(Charlotte, NC) -- The family of a former airline employee is suing American Airlines and the city of Charlotte over his death. Twenty-four-year-old Kendrick Hudson was crushed when a baggage vehicle he was driving rolled over at Charlotte Douglas International Airport last August. A union representative suggested that a lack of lighting is causing problems outside the E concourse. Airport officials told the Charlotte Observer that they haven't made any changes since a report on a lighting study came back this month.
Human Remains Found In Caldwell County
(Caldwell County, NC) -- Caldwell County deputies are investigating a discovery of human remains. They found them north of Lenoir near the Pisgah National Forest last weekend while searching for a missing man. Sixty-one-year-old Danny Garvin hadn't been heard from since August 2019. The medical examiner's office will make an identification.
Man Shot To Death In Monroe
(Monroe, NC) -- Police are looking for suspects of a deadly shooting in Monroe. Investigators say a 42-year-old man was killed during a fight in a parking lot off Commerce Drive on Sunday night. Two people allegedly ran away after he was shot.
Beer Festival Giving It Another Shot
(Charlotte, NC) -- Organizers of a failed beer festival in Charlotte last year are giving it another go in 2020. Untappd Beer refunded over 100-thousand-dollars and gave out ten-thousand-dollars in merchandise to those who attended a beer festival in May at Bank of America Stadium. Many visitors were left in a storm and never made it inside the stadium. The Untappd Beer Festival will return on May 16th, and the company promises things will be different this year.
Man Shot To Death Outside Community Center
(Raleigh, NC) -- Raleigh police are looking for the suspect of a deadly shooting. Investigators say a 22-year-old man was shot to death in the parking lot of the Worthdale Community Center yesterday afternoon. A witness said the victim was heading to the center to play basketball with two others. A nearby elementary school was placed on lockdown for a little less than an hour while officers investigated.
Two Men Accused Of Trafficking Meth Worth Over One-Million-Dollars
(Harnett County, NC) -- Two men are accused of trying to traffic over one-million-dollars' worth of heroin into Harnett County. Narcotics agents seized a package with nearly two pounds of heroin last week that was sent from Mexico to Angier. Two suspects hanging out at the delivery address in Angier were arrested on trafficking counts and taken to the Harnett County detention facility. The street value of the heroin was listed at around one-point-six-million dollars.
RDU Eying Plan To Expand Terminal One
(Raleigh, NC) -- A plan is underway to expand Terminal One at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The airport's chief operating officer told the News & Observer that as many as 15 gates could be added to handle passenger growth. It's a project that will take five years to design and construct the gates. The Airport Authority is expected to take a look at the concept plans in April. The number of passengers is rising faster than what the airport expected, with more than 14-million reported in 2019.
Special Education Teacher Accused Of Assaulting Special Needs Student
(Garner, NC) -- A Wake County school is investigating an alleged assault of a special needs student. The mother told ABC11 her son was left with scratches and bruises after a special education teacher pushed the 12-year-old down outside East Garner Middle School last Wednesday. She was able to view surveillance footage at the school yesterday. The teacher remains in the classroom as officials with East Garner Middle continue to investigate.

(Durham, NC) -- A Durham woman who's already a lottery millionaire is adding to her bank account. Linda Tate won a one-million-dollar prize from a scratch-off ticket less than two years after she won a four-million-dollar jackpot. She bought the winning Colossal Cash ticket at the Family Fare on Old Chapel Hill Road in Durham. For this one, Tate decided to take the lump sum instead of an annual payment last week.
Man Suspected Of Killing Wife, Three Children, Himself
(Vanceboro, NC) -- A Craven County man is suspected of killing his wife and three young children before pulling the trigger on himself. Sheriff's deputies found the bodies Friday after a suspicious family member called police. They're identified as Michael Ireland, April Ireland, and their three kids, four-year-old Michael, three-year-old Bryson and eight-month-old Caroline. Investigators say the family's dog was also shot and killed. They're looking into a possible motive in the case.
Family Searches For Driver Who Hit Winston-Salem Teen
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- The family of a Winston-Salem teenager wants the driver who hit him to come forward. Nineteen-year-old Terrell Smith was hit Friday night near 16th and Liberty streets. The driver took off, leaving Smith badly hurt in the street. The victim's family tells FOX 8 they're devastated and hope the driver turns him or herself in. Police are looking for a dark-colored Dodge Charger, with damage to the right front bumper, in connection with the accident.
Yadkinville Man Arrested On Rape Charges
(Yadkin Co., NC) -- A Yadkinville man is under arrest on suspicion of rape. Toby Coppley was taken into custody yesterday following an investigation dating back to September of 2018. He's charged with second-degree forcible rape, second-degree forcible offense, and sexual battery. Coppley is being held on a 100-thousand-dollar secured bond.

(Charlotte, NC) -- Kobe Bryant was one of the first high school players to skip college for the pros. Bryant was selected 13th overall by the Charlotte Hornets out of his suburban Philadelphia high school in 1996. The trend was followed by Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady, Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry and others. Eventually, LeBron James skipped college for the NBA. Dog Park And Pub Coming To Greensboro
(Greensboro, NC) -- A dog park and pub is opening up in Midtown Greensboro. It's called Doggo's Dog Park and Pub, and it's being built on Battleground Avenue. The pub is taking over the area where Bryce's Imports used to be. It's expected to open in March.
