Suspect Guilty In 2017 Barnardsville Murder

(Buncombe County, NC) -- A Buncombe County man is guilty of a 2017 murder in Barnardsville. The jury convicted Timothy Gallion yesterday in the death of Bobby Pegg, who was found shot to death inside his home nearly three years ago. Gallion was originally accused of setting fire to a small grocery store in Barnardsville around the time of the murder, but he was acquitted of arson. The judge sentenced Gallion to life without parole.

Crowds Show Frustration With HCA Healthcare

(Transylvania County, NC) -- Some people are showing frustrations with HCA Healthcare, which took over Mission Health a year ago. Citizens came out with complaints in Transylvania County last night and Buncombe County on Monday night, while an independent monitor for HCA listened. Concerns ranged from staff shortages and inaccurate billing to improper care. Another meeting is scheduled for the Marion Community Building in McDowell County at 11:30 this morning.

NC Woman Selected To Be Ambassador To Canada

(Washington, NC) -- A woman from North Carolina is President Trump's pick to be the next U.S. ambassador to Canada. He nominated former North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services chair, Dr. Aldona Wos on Tuesday. She also served as ambassador to Estonia under president George W. Bush. The News & Observer says some of the state's food benefits were shut down during Wos' 30-month stint at the head of the health services office.

Ingles Offering Help To Laid-Off Earth Fare Employees

(Asheville, NC) -- Another grocery store chain is looking to hire recently laid-off workers from Earth Fare. WLOS-TV says a south Asheville Ingles held a job fair yesterday, just a week after Earth Fare filed for Chapter Eleven Bankruptcy. Three-hundred local employees are now out of a job. Several other grocery chains are also reportedly interested in catering to the Earth Fare employees.

Teens Still Missing From Children's Home

(Black Mountain, NC) -- Four teens who disappeared from a western North Carolina children's home are still missing. It's been since Sunday when twin sisters Emily and Abigail Garcia, 15-year-old Cameron Templin and 16-year-old Sarah Pannell were last seen at the Black Mountain Home for Children. The director of a teen homeless shelter in Gastonia told WLOS-TV that the longer they are gone, she fears they'll fall victims to human trafficking. Buncombe County investigators have gotten calls from the public, but nothing has turned up.

(Buncombe County, NC) -- The threat of damaging rain is still not over for western North Carolina. Heavy rainfall could produce flooding overnight into Thursday. There's also a flood advisory in place for the French Broad River in Buncombe and Henderson counties.

Coin Shop Owner Wounded In Shootout With Robbers

(Raleigh, NC) -- A Raleigh coin shop owner is recovering after he was wounded in a shootout with two robbers. Police say 71-year-old Robert Sims was injured when he refused to give in to the robbers at his Golden Isles shop on West Peace Street Tuesday afternoon. Sims was taken to WakeMed after the holdup just after 4:30 p.m. Police say the thieves got away with a small amount of cash.

2 Seriously Injured When Car Slams Into Broken-Down Car

(Raleigh, NC) -- A husband and wife are seriously injured after a car slammed into their broken-down car Tuesday evening in Raleigh. It happened shortly before 6 p.m. the intersection of North New Hope and Haithcock roads. Police say the man had pulled his car up next up to his wife's vehicle, which had stalled. An approaching minivan swerved and clipped a fourth vehicle and the stalled car. Police say the minivan driver will face charges.

Former Raleigh Cop Sentenced To 10 Years For $4-Million Investment Scam

(Greenville, NC) -- A former Raleigh Police officer and Wake County Sheriff's deputy is going to federal prison for ten years for cheating people out of nearly four-million dollars through investment scams. Gregory Anthony Christos was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty last year to charges that included wire fraud and money laundering. The 62-year-old Christos also was ordered to pay more than three-point-seven-million dollars to people, businesses, and the IRS.

NC State Tips Syracuse, UNC Falls To Wake Forest

(Undated) -- NC State picked up a win on the road but UNC's nightmare season continues as the Tar Heels lost to Wake Forest for the first time in six years Tuesday night. The Heels fell to the Demon Deacons, 57-74 in Winston-Salem. The Wolfpack used a strong second half to take down the Orangemen, 79-74 in Syracuse. Devon Daniels' 23 led NC State.

Person Killed In Big-Rig Wreck In Montgomery Co.

(Montgomery Co., NC) -- One person is dead and three others are hurt after a multi-vehicle wreck in Montgomery County. The accident happened early yesterday morning on I-74, near Biscoe. State troopers say two tractor-trailers and two cars were involved. The victims have not been identified.

Woman On Oxygen Catches Fire While Smoking

(Asheboro, NC) -- The state fire marshal is reminding folks not to smoke while using an oxygen tank after a woman caught fire. The accident happened Saturday at a home in Asheboro. The woman was airlifted to a hospital in Chapel Hill where she is currently recovering. State Fire Marshal Mike Causey calls the incident a tragic reminder about the dangers of smoking while using an oxygen tank.

Bloomberg, Sanders Visit NC During Early Voting

(Greensboro, NC) -- Presidential candidates Michael Bloomberg and Bernie Sanders are headed to North Carolina as early voting gets underway. Billionaire Michael Bloomberg will visit Raleigh, Greensboro and Winston-Salem tomorrow. Senator Bernie Sanders will visit Durham and Charlotte on Friday. Early voting for the March 3rd primary runs February 13th through February 29th.

Two Men Arrested For Stealing Toilets In Alamance Co.

(Alamance Co., NC) -- Two men are accused of stealing toilets and other items in Alamance County. Jacob Allen and Justin Lamm are also accused of stealing doorknobs, pots and pans, a hot water tank and a carport. Detectives found the stolen property at a house under construction that belonged to Allen. The men were arrested on multiple charges and are being held on five-thousand-dollar bonds.

Teenager Injured In High Point Shooting

(High Point, NC) -- A teenager is in the hospital after a shooting in High Point. The 15-year-old victim was shot Monday evening in the 12-hundred-block of Adams Street. Officers say the victim was shot in the right hip. They're looking for a dark-colored car in connection with the crime.
