WNC Congressman In Self-Quarantine Despite Negative Coronavirus Test

(Washington, DC) -- Western North Carolina Congressman Mark Meadows is under a self-quarantine connected to a recent possible coronavirus exposure. He came into contact with a confirmed patient at last month's Conservative Political Action Conference. A Meadows' spokesman said late Sunday night that the Congressman tested negative and has shown no symptoms, but will stay at home for 14-days. President Trump just appointed Meadows to serve as White House Chief of Staff on Friday.

More Coronavirus Cases Identified In NC

(Raleigh, NC) -- State health officials are confirming five more presumptive positive cases of coronavirus in North Carolina. The individuals attended a conference in Boston last month, and are all residents of Wake County. There is no connection between these people and the state's first coronavirus case, which is connected to a senior living facility in Washington state.

Juvenile Dies In Accidental Shooting

(Fairview, NC) -- Buncombe County sheriff's deputies are investigating an apparent accidental deadly shooting. The victim was brought to the Garren Creek Fire Station on Sunday night, and then rushed to Mission Hospital. WLOS-TV reports the victim may have been five-years old. Investigators haven't released much information since the victim is under 18.

Burning Scheduled In Grandfather Ranger District

(Nebo, NC) -- Western North Carolina residents won't need to be alarmed if smoke starts rising in the Grandfather Ranger District soon. The U.S. Forest Service is planning prescribed burns in the next few months near Lake James at Dodson's Knob, Cove Clinchfield, and Old FortBig Lost Bear in McDowell County. Weather conditions will determine the exact time of the burns. Forest officials are planning the burns in hopes of creating more resilient forests to support wildlife.

Buncombe County Man Claims One-Million-Dollars In Scratch-Off

(Raleigh, NC) -- A Buncombe County man is a million-dollar winner in a lottery scratch-off game. The North Carolina Education Lottery says Joseph Duncan of Swannanoa claimed a lump sum prize last Friday after winning on a 25-dollar Extreme Cash scratch-off ticket. It was purchased at the Black Mountain Quick Stop off U.S. 70. Duncan was reportedly the first million-dollar winner in the Extreme Cash game.

ETSU Punches Ticket To Tourney In Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- The East Tennessee State men's basketball team is heading from the Harrah's Cherokee Center to the NCAA tournament. The Bucs capped off a Southern Conference tournament championship 72-to-58 over Wofford in Asheville last night. ETSU finished the season with 30 wins against just four losses, and finds out its tournament seeding on Sunday afternoon. Samford won the women's tournament on Sunday at Harrah's.

Hit-And-Run Suspect Charged With Second-Degree Murder

(Charlotte, NC) -- A suspect is facing murder charges in a deadly hit-and-run in west Charlotte. The CMPD says 22-year-old James Winston showed up at the hospital injured after he ran away from the scene of a wreck early Sunday morning on Wilkinson Boulevard. Winston's passenger stayed in the car, while the driver of the other car died at the scene. Winston has been charged with second-degree murder and DWI.

Teen Hanging On To Life After Drive-By Shooting

(Charlotte, NC) -- A teen who was shot in a Charlotte drive-by is clinging on to life. Nineteen-year-old Brianna Stephenson was shot while inside a car at the intersection of Tuckaseegee Road and Freedom Drive late Sunday morning. Her grandmother told WBTV yesterday that the teen may be removed from life support soon. The CMPD hasn't released any information on potential suspects.

Gastonia Police Seek Suspect For Opening Fire Twice In Neighborhood

(Gastonia, NC) -- Gastonia police are looking for a man who opened fire in the same neighborhood twice on Sunday. Investigators say the suspect was in a silver Honda minivan. Several cars and a house were hit by bullets along East Davidson Avenue, but no one was injured in the shooting.

(Hope Mills, NC) -- Police in Hope Mills are asking the public for help in locating the driver of a car in a hit-and-run accident. It happened last Friday night along the 62-hundred-block of Hackberry Drive. Investigators say 59-year-old Brenda Davis was walking her dog when she was struck by a vehicle that kept going. The woman is now listed in critical condition. Police are looking for a burgundy-colored vehicle with possible front end damage. Portion Of Durham Freeway To Be Closed For Next 30-Days

(Durham, NC) -- Commuters who regularly drive on the Durham Freeway are being alerted that a major section of the roadway will be closed starting tomorrow night. The Department of Transportation says the ramp from Briggs Avenue to southbound Durham Freeway will be closed for repairs over the next 30-days. Detour signs will be erected pointing traffic to alternate routes.

Cyber Security Still Working To Bring Durham Computers Back On-Line

(Durham, NC) -- Durham officials say they are confident no one's personal information was compromised during a weekend Russian malware attack. As a safety precaution, cyber security workers shut down 80-servers in an effort to keep the computer virus from spreading. As of Monday, all critical public safety services, such as 911, were back up and operating. The IT department anticipates all Durham City servers will be back on-line in a couple of days. However, it could take as much as a week to restore most Durham County computer systems.

North Carolina State Employee Retirement Fund Still In Good Shape

(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina State Treasurer Dale Folwell says, despite the recent volatility in the stock market, the state's 105-billion-dollar pension fund remains one of the safest in the nation. He says even with Monday's two-thousand point drop in the Dow, the North Carolina pension fund was down only about one-percent at the end of the day. Folwell says most of the state's retirement funds have been placed in conservative investments designed to guard against market volatility.

Driver In Crash That Killed Son Wanted

(High Point, NC) -- Police are looking for the drunk driver whose teenage son was killed in a car crash in High Point. Arrest warrants were issued for Roderick White, who's accused of driving recklessly before crashing his Chevy Blazer on East Martin Luther King Jr. Drive this past weekend. His 18-year-old son, Roderick White Junior, was tossed from the vehicle and died. White ran from the scene before police arrived

Publix Limits Items For Coronavirus Protection

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Publix is putting a limit on some of the items people are stocking up on amid coronavirus concerns. They include hand soaps & sanitizers, rubbing alcohol, face masks & gloves, disinfectant wipes and spray, facial tissues, cups, plates, utensils and bleach. Each person can only buy two of each item. It's not clear how long the policy will remain in effect.

Graham Man Shot In Head

(Graham, NC) -- A man is under arrest in connection with a shooting in Graham. Donald Vincent is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. Police say he shot Antonio Williamson in the head Sunday night. The victim is fighting for his life at a local trauma center. An investigation is ongoing.
