District Attorney Seeking Death Penalty In Haywood County Case
(Haywood County, NC) -- The district attorney is seeking the death penalty in a Haywood County child murder case. A ten-month-old child died shortly after she was brought to the hospital in July 2019. Dylan Green was indicted for murder in early October. The D-A's office told the judge Friday of its intentions to seek the death penalty in the case.
COVID-19 Not Slowing Down
(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina's average of new COVID-19 cases is continuing its upward climb. Public health officials reported just over two-thousand cases statewide yesterday. That followed three straight days of 28-hundred-plus. The rolling average over the last seven days still crept up, reaching 23-hundred-70.
Landslide Cleared Off Highway In McDowell County
(McDowell County, NC) -- A highway in McDowell County is now back open. North Carolina Highway 226 had been shutdown since Friday, when debris from a landslide covered the roadway. Crews were able to clear everything out and re-open the highway yesterday. A 90-mile detour had been in place in the meantime.
WNC In Freeze Warning
(Asheville, NC) -- Residents in the mountains are waking up to the coldest temperatures of the season today. A freeze warning is in effect for western North Carolina, where temps have plummeted into the 20s. A wind advisory is also in effect until this afternoon. Gusts could reach 50-miles-an-hour.
Asheville Airport Expands Handicap Parking
(Asheville, NC) -- Handicap parking is expanding at Asheville Regional Airport. Spaces are available in the hourly, daily and garage parking lots as of November 1st. Fees are no longer flat, but based on the location of the spaces
Early Voting Sets Record In Mecklenburg County
(Mecklenburg County, NC) -- Voting numbers are already at a record high in Mecklenburg County. Nearly 475-thousand votes were cast early locally, either through in-person polls or mail-in absentees. That compares to 308-thousand four years ago. Grammy and Oscar-winning rapper, Common, showed up at West Charlotte High School on Saturday to encourage more voting.
Melania Trump Campaigning In Huntersville
(Huntersville, NC) -- The Trump campaign is concentrating on the Charlotte area the day before the election. Melania Trump is scheduled to attend a Make America Great Again event in Huntersville today. The president was in Hickory last night, and will visit Fayetteville again today. Trump and Joe Biden are running neck-and-neck in North Carolina.
Murder Suspect Arrested In Gastonia
(Gastonia, NC) -- A man accused in a York County deadly shooting is in North Carolina jail. Police arrested Kevin Gil at a Gastonia hotel early Sunday morning. He had been on the run since allegedly shooting a person to death a week ago outside of Clover. Gil has been charged with murder.
Students Returning To CMS Classrooms
(Charlotte, NC) -- More CMS students head back to the classroom today. Kindergarten through 5th grade kids who opted for in-person instruction are returning for the first time since the spring, when the pandemic first forced schools to close down. Grades six through eight come back three weeks from today. More than two-thirds of CMS elementary-aged students chose in-person instruction.

Charlotte Church Given Okay To Open After Outbreak
(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte church at the center of a large COVID-19 outbreak is open again. Mecklenburg County officials and the United House of Prayer for All People came up with an agreement to re-open Friday. The decision came almost a week after the county advised the church its eleven locations must stop holding in-person activities after 100-plus people who went to a revival last month tested positive for COVID-19. The church has agreed to follow several safety measures.
City Of Graham Bracing For Second Larger Voting Rights Rally
(Graham, NC) -- The organizer of a rally designed to encourage more voting in Graham has vowed to return on Election Day tomorrow to stage an even larger event. This after eight demonstrators were pepper sprayed and arrested on Saturday for what police say was a violation of a city code by assembling on the streets instead of sidewalks without a permit. The Rev. Greg Drumwright claims police used tear gas and pepper spray on elderly people and children in an effort to force the crowd to disperse. The NAACP and other civil rights organizations are investigating.
Trump To Make Good On Canceled Rally In Fayetteville Today
(Fayetteville, NC) -- President Trump is scheduled to return to Fayetteville today to make up for a campaign rally that had to be canceled last week because of high winds from Tropical Storm Zeta. The rally will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Fayetteville Regional Airport. At a rally in Hickory Sunday, Trump promised to help restore North Carolina's economy and officially endorsed Dan Forest for Governor in the race to unseat incumbent Roy Cooper.
Harris Makes Final Pitch For NC Votes In Two Locations Sunday
(Goldsboro, NC) -- Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris campaigned in Goldsboro and Fayetteville Sunday. In the final hours before Election Day, Harris told supporters that a vote for Joe Biden is a vote for someone who will implement a national strategy to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. Harris also promised that a Biden-Harris administration will work to heal a divided nation.
NC Elections Board Assures 97-Percent Of Votes Will Be Counted On Tuesday
(Raleigh, AL) -- The North Carolina State Board of Elections predicts that by the end of Election Night tomorrow, an estimated 97-percent of all ballots casts will be counted. In a statement released Sunday, the Board said it anticipates all but mail-in ballots should be counted on Tuesday. Mail-in ballots have been given a deadline of November 12th to be received, if post marked by November 3rd. The Board will reconvene on November 24th to certify the final results of the election.
Weekend Of Gun Violence Leaves Three Women Injured In Durham
(Durham, NC) -- Authorities in Durham are investigating the shootings of three women in separate incidents Sunday, including a 72-year-old grandmother who was caught in the cross fire. Police say all of the shootings occurred within a 24-hour period. Documents show several people were outside of a house on Southerland Street around 2 p.m. when someone drove up and starting firing gunshots. The victim, identified as Louvinia Alston, was struck in the thigh. She was treated at a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Two other women received serious injuries after being shot early Sunday morning near Tower Boulevard and West Gate Drive.

(Hickory, NC) -- President Trump is confident about his chances in North Carolina. Campaigning in Hickory yesterday, Trump said the economy will collapse if Joe Biden is elected. He said Biden will stop fracking, which, he said, will send energy prices through the roof. Trump said as long as he's president, the U.S. will remain energy-independent. Trump is headed to Fayetteville this morning for another campaign rally.
Eight Arrested, Demonstrators Pepper-Sprayed In Graham
(Graham, NC) -- Several demonstrators are under arrest after a voting rally in Graham. The group gathered near the courthouse Saturday to hear people speak about voting rights in North Carolina. The Burlington-Times reports officers told organizers to leave the area near the polling place and then sprayed pepper-spray. Eight people were arrested and charged with a variety of offenses. The city claims the organizers did not have the proper permits for the demonstration.
Freeze Warning In Effect In Piedmont Triad
(Greensboro, NC) -- A Freeze Warning is in effect in the Piedmont Triad. The National Weather Service says we're dealing with the coldest air of the season this morning. Subfreezing temperatures around 29-to-30 are expected. The NWS urges folks to protect their plants and pipes from the elements. The warning expires at 9 a.m.
Eight Hospitalized In Hit-And-Run Wreck In Guilford Co.
(Guilford Co., NC) -- Eight people are hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash in Guilford County. It happened Friday night on I-40/85 south, near the 138 mile-marker. Police say the suspect, 32-year-old Lindsay Faust, was speeding when she hit three vehicles and crashed her car into an SUV. Faust, two other adults and five children in the SUV were taken to the hospital. She was charged with reckless driving, and more charges are pending.
Man Charged With Murder In Winston-Salem Homicide
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A man is charged with murder in connection with a homicide in Winston-Salem. Fifty-four-year-old Bryan Quick was arrested Sunday. He's accused of murdering a 40-year-old unidentified man on Glenn Hi Road. Circumstances surrounding the crime are under investigation.
