(Hendersonville, NC) -- A political action committee is going after western North Carolina's Congressman for alleged campaign sign violations. The Board of Elections received a complaint from a group called Fire Madison Cawthorn this week for reported problems with the size and weight of his campaign boards. Nearly a dozen complaints were filed overall. Cawthorn is facing more than half-a-dozen Republicans in the primary for District Eleven.

Asheville Hosting International Tennis Event

City Settles With Former Asheville Fire Division Chief

Funeral Donations Taken After Toddler Dies In Jackson County

(Jackson County, NC) -- Funeral donations are pouring in for a toddler who died in Jackson County. The sheriff's office says three-year-old Nevaeh Newswanger was swept over Whitewater Falls on Sunday. She and her family from Pennsylvania were in uptown South Carolina for work while visiting the falls. A GoFundMe drive has raised more than ten-thousand-dollars so far for her funeral expenses.

Concert To Benefit Ukraine Upcoming In Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- A concert in Asheville will go to support Ukraine. All of the funds from April 30th's event at the Isis Music Hall will benefit the Ukrainian National Women's League of America Humanitarian Aid Fund. A silent auction will also be held. The music hall says a variety of music genres will be featured, including Americana and singer-songwriter pieces.

Tourists Drop Home Opener

(Asheville, NC) -- Baseball is back in Asheville, but it isn't starting well this season. The Tourists dropped their home opener to Greenville eleven-to-nothing at McCormick Field last night. Toddler Murder Investigation Underway In Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- An investigation is underway into the alleged murder of a toddler in south Charlotte. The two-year-old died just over a month ago before officers found him at a pond on Park Road Park. WSOC-TV reports detectives are now questioning the mother, who allegedly gave questionable details leading up to the death. Court documents reveal the mother said she saw the child walk into the water even though he couldn't swim.

Davison College Drops Testing Requirements For Admission

The dean of admission announced yesterday the school is dropping a requirement for SAT and ACT scores, although they're still allowed to be included. More than three-quarters of colleges and universities across the country have gone test-optional for this fall.

The search is underway for a man accused of shooting ten-people at a Brooklyn subway station yesterday. Officials with the Charlotte Area Transit System wants to ensure the public that there are no threats locally. Regardless, patrols are being increased across the system.

Suspect Caught By U.S. Marshals Outside Charlotte Department Store

(Charlotte, NC) -- A man wanted for robbery and felony conspiracy charges is behind bars in Mecklenburg County. NBC Charlotte reports U.S. Marshals cornered the suspect outside a Ross department store in University City yesterday. He slammed an SUV into a light pole multiple times, but couldn't get away. Marshals were forced to use a stun gun on him before his arrest.

Lane Closures Underway For Charlotte Bridge Work

(Charlotte, NC) -- The DOT is starting bridge work along the uptown Charlotte loop. Road closures are underway on I-277 through April 22nd. Work will be completed in overnight hours to reduce congestion during the day.

Teen Shot In The Head At Convenience Store Tuesday Night

(Raleigh, NC) -- It was another night of gun violence and bloodshed across the Triangle Tuesday, as a teenager was shot in the head at a convenience store. It happened around 9:40 pm at Zach's Grocery Mart on New Bern Avenue. Witnesses described the suspects as two men in an SUV. The teen was last reported to be in critical condition.

Man On Electric Scooter Chased Down And Shot By Gang

(Durham, NC) -- Police in Durham are investigating an incident in which a man riding an electric scooter, was allegedly chased down by a group of individuals and shot multiple times. It happened Tuesday night at the corner of Holloway Street and Alston Avenue. No word on his condition. Authorities are trying to determine whether two additional shootings in the vicinity of Alston Avenue and Jupiter Street were connected. Police also report a woman was shot on Carver Street just before 10:pm.

Father And Son Die In Hospital Following Crash With A GoRaleigh Bus

(Raleigh, NC) -- A second person who was injured in a crash between a GoRaleigh bus and a car has died. Authorities report the 9-year old boy passed away in the hospital Tuesday, after he and his father were pulled from the wreckage on Garner Road Sunday. The father died of his injuries the day before. The two victims have been identified as Juan Lebron and his son Juan Steven Lebron. The driver of the bus has been charged with failure to yield, causing serious bodily injury.

Audit Finds Little Or No Oversight Of Disaster Relief Funds Distributed After Hurricane Florence

(Raleigh, NC) -- The results of a recently conducted state audit has found that the North Carolina Department of Public Safety failed to properly oversee disaster relief funds, that were distributed to thousands of residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. In October of 2018, the General Assembly approved more than 942-million dollars in emergency relief to hurricane victims. The audit also claims that at least 500-million of that amount had little or no government oversight.

NCSU Models Suggest Spike In New COVID-19 Cases

(Raleigh, NC) -- Health experts in North Carolina suggest the state could see another rise in COVID-19 cases. Researchers at North Carolina State University say modeling shows the state experiencing a rise in positive cases and potentially hospitalizations. Doctors believe the spike can be attributed to upcoming holidays, as well as spring break. About half the country is reporting an uptick in COVID-19 cases, though the CDC notes hospitalizations were still on the decline last week.

Guilford County Schools Approves Name Change To Honor Greensboro Four

(Greensboro, NC) -- Guilford County Schools administrators have approved a name change of the all-male Middle College at North Carolina A&T. It's now been renamed The A&T Four Middle College at North Carolina A&T State University. Officials say the name was changed to honor the Greensboro Four, the A&T students who sat down at a whites-only lunch counter to take a stand against segregation. Their actions were the beginning of the sit-in movement across the country.

Bowman Gray Stadium To Get $9 Million Facelift

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- The City of Winston-Salem has agreed to fund nine-million-dollars' worth of improvements at Bowman Gray Stadium. The historic venue is operated by the city of Winston-Salem, Winston-Salem State University, and Bowman Gray Racing. Officials say the planned renovations include a brand new football field, new pavement for the race track and upgraded restrooms and concessions. Winston-Salem leaders hope the improved stadium will be a big boon to the city as well as the university.

School District Names Three New Education Leaders

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board has appointed three new principals and an administrator. Ian "Scott" Munsie has been named the principal of Glenn High School. Colin Tribby has been named the principal of Ward Elementary School effective June 1st. He's currently principal at Thomasville Primary School. The assistant principal at Kernersville Elementary will soon become the main principal. Teresa Rose begins her new position July 1st after working for eight years as the assistant principal.

18th Annual NC State Chili Championship Happening Next Weekend

(Stokesdale, NC) -- The 33-hundred-person population of Stokesdale in Guilford County will expand a great deal next weekend as the state's chili cookoff comes to town. More than 25 competitors, their families and fans are expected for the 18th Annual NC State Championship. The event will benefit and take place at Camp Carefree, which provides camping experiences for kids with chronic illnesses.
