Initial Suspect Cleared In Hit-And-Run
(Asheville, NC) -- The investigation of a hit-and-run is continuing in Asheville. It's been close to two-weeks since a man was reportedly hit by a truck while riding a moped. He still remains in ICU. Investigators told WLOS-TV that a person of interest matching the suspect's description has since been cleared.
Human Remains Connected To Candler Couple's Charges
(Buncombe County, NC) -- The discovery of human remains in Buncombe County is being connected to another case. A man and woman in Candler were charged with concealing a death in December 2020. They lived on the same property where remains were found on Beady Eyed Lane last week. An autopsy is underway to identify the remains.
Fire Damages UNC Pardee Hospital
(Hendersonville, NC) -- It remains unclear what caused a fire at Pardee UNC hospital. Dozens of patients were relocated Friday when fire and smoke caused damage on the second and third floors. No injuries were reported in the hospital. Damage continues to be assessed.
Train Derails In Black Mountain

CMPD Investigates Weekend Homicides
(Charlotte, NC) -- A homicide investigation is underway in north Charlotte. Officers found a victim shot to death on Metals Driver in the North Tryon division last night. The CMPD is also putting together details in a west Charlotte homicide on Friday. One person died on Sloan Avenue, but there's no word on cause of death.
Lowes CEO Hauls In Large Compensation Package
(Mooresville, NC) -- The CEO for Mooresville-based Lowes is pulling in millions in compensation. The Charlotte Business Journal reports Marvin Ellison raked in nearly 18-million-dollars last year in his compensation package, while his actual salary was less than two-million-dollars. The compensation number is reportedly down over 20-percent from the year before. Net income and sales for Lowes were up in fiscal year 2021.
Mint Museum Opens With New Installation
(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte museum is back open after closing its doors during the pandemic. A new stained glass-like display is open for view at the Mint Museum in uptown. The name for the museum comes from the U.S. Mint building built in the Queen City, which was the second in the U.S. behind Philadelphia. It's considered the first art museum in North Carolina.

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a shooting in uptown. One person was injured near Romare Bearden Park last night. The search is on for a suspect. There's no word on the condition of the victim.

(Charlotte, NC) -- The top places to retire in Charlotte are in the suburbs. A ranking by the review site Niche reports Davidson recently came in at number-one for the metro area. Other areas included Tega Cay and Pineville. Davidson faded down to close the 600th spot nationally.
One Dead In Chester County Fire
(Chester County, SC) -- One person is dead in a Chester County fire. Crews responded to a home engulfed in flames on Saturday night on Greene Driver in Richland. Firefighters found someone inside the house dead while they were putting out the blaze. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Separate Head-On Collisions Send To Triangle Sheriff's Deputies To The Hospital
(Triangle, NC) -- Two Triangle area Sheriff's Deputies had to be hospitalized over the weekend after being involved in separate head-on collisions. The first happened in Johnston County just after 11:00 p.m. Friday on Highway 210-south of Cleveland Road. Authorities say the driver, who had just been cited for DWI on March 30th, was intoxicated again when he crashed into the deputies patrol car. The injuries were not life-threatening. A Pitt County Sheriff's Deputy had to have surgery after colliding head-on with another vehicle that was driving the wrong way on U.S. 264-Alternate near Marcus Drive. No word on her condition.
Raleigh First Responders Planning Mass Demonstration Outside Of City Hall Tomorrow
(Raleigh, NC) -- Members of the Raleigh police and fire departments are planning to hold a protest and rally tomorrow in front of City Hall. At issue is higher wages and improved benefits. The event, led by the Raleigh Police Protective Association and the Raleigh Professional Firefighters Association, will begin with a 12:30 pm news briefing before the City Council meeting starts at 1:00 p.m. Both groups claim the City has fallen short of its promise to improve pay, retention and benefits.
City Of Durham To Receive Huge Federal Transportation Grant Today
(Durham, NC) -- North Carolina Congressman David Price will be in Durham today to present city leaders with a check for nearly 20-million dollars from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The federal funds will support two major rail projects in the Bull City, including a planned 'Rail Trail' that will connect neighborhoods with downtown. The funds will also be used to make improvements to the Amtrak station in Durham.

Raleigh Home Fire Believed To Have Been Deliberately Set
(Raleigh, NC) -- Authorities in Raleigh are investigating two fires at the same location over the weekend, as an act of arson. Firefighters responded to the first blaze around 10:00 p.m. Saturday at a house on Summer Place. A woman inside escaped unharmed and the fire was quickly extinguished. But a few hours later, around 2:00 a.m. Sunday, firefighters returned to the same home to battle an even large blaze. This time the fire caused significant damage to the structure. An preliminary police report finds the fire was intentionally set. So far there have been no arrest in this case.
Canes Top Two Players Go Down With Injuries In Devastating Loss To The Colorado Avalanche
(Denver, CO) -- The Carolina Hurricane's quest for a Stanley Cup championship was dealt a serious setback Saturday, as their two top players were injured in a nasty seven-four loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Goalie Frederik Andersen went down with a left leg injury midway through the third and had to be helped off the ice. And team captain Jordan Staal also took a big hit late in the third and left the game not to return. Head coach Rod Brind'Amour said it "just wasn't a good night."
Taco Bell Robbed By Woman Who Came In Through Drive-Thru Window
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Police are investigating the robbery of a fast food restaurant where the suspect reportedly came in through the drive-thru window with a knife. A Winston-Salem Police news release says the incident happened at the Taco Bell in the 300 block of Akron Drive Saturday. Witnesses tell police the woman was swinging the knife as she came through the window. She took the cash drawer and escaped to a waiting brown SUV. No one was hurt.
Murder Charges Brought Against Second Person In February Shooting
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem police have charged a second person in a deadly shooting that happened in February near a BP gas station. Late Friday, detectives say they charged Shakeem Jones of Salisbury with murder and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. Darryl Smith died after being shot at February 10th at 701 Jonestown Road. U.S. Marshals had arrested another person in the case in March.
Second Shooting This Week Investigated At Greensboro Bar
(Greensboro, NC) -- A shooting early Easter morning at the Blind Tiger bar in Greensboro has left two people injured. Police say they were called to the 1800 block of Spring Garden Street to find two people suffering from gunshot wounds. They are expected to be all right. Authorities say another shooting happened in the same location last Wednesday. No suspect has been arrested in either case.
Easter Services Cancelled Due To Car Running Into Church Building
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- No information has been released about the driver of a car who ran into a Winston-Salem church early Easter morning. Leaders at Second New Bethel Baptist Church say they had to cancel their service because the car crashed into the building at 1900 Walkertown Road about 2:00 in the morning. The incident also caused what Winston-Salem firefighters say was a major gas leak. It was about an hour later before Piedmont Gas was able to safely restore service to the area. A photo released by police shows the car hit the backside of the church.
North Carolina A&T Lady Pirates Break 9-Game Losing Streak
(Greensboro, NC) -- The Lady Pilots of North Carolina A and T have finally broken their nine-game losing streak with a six to three win over the Hampton Pirates. The break came in the second game of a Big South Conference softball doubleheader played at the Lady Pirates Softball Field on Saturday. A&T ended the day at 13-and-27 overall and three-and-15 in conference play.
