Cawthorn Concedes District Eleven Republican Primary

(Haywood County, NC) -- Western North Carolina's Eleventh District will have a new representative in Congress. Republican incumbent Madison Cawthorn ceded the primary last night to Chuck Edwards, who was up by a percentage point with all precincts reporting. The state Senator will go on to face Democrat Jasmine Beach-Ferrera in the general election. She took 60-percent of the vote in her party's primary yesterday.

Buncombe Sheriff, Asheville Mayor Heading To General Election

(Asheville, NC) -- Buncombe County's sheriff is heading to November's general election. Quentin Miller easily won yesterday's Democratic primary, so he'll go on to face Republican Jeff Worley. In city of Asheville races, incumbent Esther Manheimer and City Council member Kim Roney are heading to the general election race for Mayor. Manheimer has been Mayor since the beginning of 2013.

Beasley, Budd To Square Off In Senate Race

(Raleigh, NC) -- The U.S. Senate race is set in North Carolina. Democrat Cheri Beasley and Republican Ted Budd easily won their parties' statewide primaries yesterday. The winner in November will take the seat of retiring Republican Richard Burr. He's served as a U.S. Senator since the beginning of 2005.

Missing Woman Found Dead In Rutherford County

(Rutherford County, NC) -- The search for a missing elderly woman is over in Rutherford County. Investigators from Greenville say 80-year-old Edna Suttles disappeared last August. Her body was discovered in Rutherfordton Monday. A Rutherford County man was previously charged in Suttles' disappearance.

NC Attorney General Positive For COVID

(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina's attorney general is at home with COVID. Josh Stein tweeted this week that he tested positive, but he remains asymptomatic. His diagnosis comes as COVID case are on a rise in North Carolina. Weekly case numbers have more-than doubled over the past month.

Buncombe House District Race Separated By Handful Of Votes

(Buncombe County, NC) -- An Asheville-area state House primary is too close to call. Pratik Bhakta is leading Sherry Higgins by only seven votes with all precincts reporting in District 115's Republican primary. It's possible more absentee ballots need to be counted. A recount is expected.
