(Arden, NC) -- The highway patrol is investigating a deadly hit-and-run in Arden. Troopers say a 50-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car while walking along U.S. Highway 25 early Sunday morning. The driver never stopped. There's been no description of the vehicle.

Buncombe County Studies Homelessness Jobs

(Buncombe County, NC) -- Buncombe County is studying a program that would provide the homeless with jobs. The Citizen-Times reports the county is seeking application from non-profits through August 18th which are willing to head up a program to clean up trash and provide general maintenance. Wages for the program haven't been decided yet. The city of Asheville reported earlier this year that more than 600 people were experiencing homelessness.

Henderson County Feeds Students With Summer Meals

(Henderson County, NC) -- The Summer Meals program is helping kids with food this summer in Henderson County. The Hendersonville Times-News reports around 18-hundred children are receiving meals through August 12th. There are nearly 20 sites where kids can receive lunch without any enrollment requirements. Most of the sites included are along Meals on Wheels bus routes, where children can get meals on board.

Grove Arcade Hosts Summer Festival

(Asheville, NC) -- Organizers of a summer event on downtown Asheville are looking to make it an annual celebration. The Grove Arcade hosted its first summer festival on Saturday. The senior manager of the property told WLOS-TV that they wanted to start something with a sense of community for locals and tourists. The arcade is located in a historic commercial and residential building in downtown.

Lotto Ticket Wins Big In Buncombe

(Buncombe County, NC) -- A retired Asheville paramedic is planning to use recent lotter winnings to help pay off bills. The North Carolina Education Lottery revealed last week that the man purchased a 30-dollar scratch-off ticket from a convenience store on Weaverville Highway that netted 100-thousand-dollars in winnings. In Friday's Mega Millions drawing, two people won one-million-dollars after buying tickets in the Charlotte area.

Hundreds Of Flights Delayed In Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- Weather is to blame for hundreds of delays at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. Flight Aware reported around 500 flights were postponed yesterday, with around 100 cancellations. Most of those involved American Airlines flights. Charlotte's airport was one of the worst for flight delays this summer, according to the Wall Street Journal.

(Charlotte, NC) -- A homicide is being investigated in southwest Charlotte. Officers say one person died after being shot at a Quality Inn on Wallingford Street Sunday night. The CMPD is searching for a suspect.

Charlotte FC Match Delayed By Weather

(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte's soccer club will have to wait for another day to play Columbus. Two weather delays caused Charlotte FC's match at Bank of America Stadium to be postponed Saturday night. There's no word on when the match will be rescheduled. Charlotte is slated to host D.C. United on Wednesday night.

Two Charlotte Lotto Tickets Win One-Million Dollars

(Charlotte, NC) -- Two lucky lotto players won big in the Mega Millions drawing after buying tickets in the Charlotte area. A ticket bought in Illinois claimed the billion-dollar prize on Friday night, but room was left for others. Million-dollar tickets were purchased at convenience stores in south Charlotte and Mooresville. They matched five numbers, minus the Mega Ball.

Gastonia Pool Opens After Lifeguard Shortage

(Gastonia, NC) -- A Gastonia pool once closed due to employee shortage is open for a couple of weeks. WBTV says the Lineberger Pool off East Garrison Boulevard suffered a lack of lifeguards for much of this summer, but it's now open for visitors everyday through August 14th. Afterwards, it will be open on weekends until Labor Day.

Man Suspected Of Intentionally Setting Fire To Fayetteville Motel Arrested

(Fayetteville, NC) -- Authorities in Fayetteville have arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for a fire that caused major damage to the Royal Inn motel on Gillespie Street early Saturday morning. Surveillance video showed 44-year old Michael Devon Dunham going in an out of the structure several times while it was on fire. Although all 40-of the occupants were able to escape safely, investigators say Dunham made no attempts to extinguish the blaze or alert anyone that the building was burning. Dunham is now facing charges of first degree arson and burning of personal property.

Co-Pilot Jumps Out Of Plane To His Death Before Emergency Landing At RDU

(Morrisville, NC) -- Federal investigators are continuing to probe a bizarre incident at RDU Friday, in which the co-pilot of a cargo plane either jumped or fell out of the aircraft to his death before it made an emergency landing. It happened around 2:40 pm after the pilot notified air traffic control that the plane had lost the right wheel of its landing gear. The body of the co-pilot, identified as 23-year old Charles Hew Crooks, was later found about 20-miles away from the airport in a Fuquay-Varina neighborhood. After the plane landed, the other pilot was taken to Duke Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Several Cars And Houses Riddled Will Bullets From Drive-By Shootings In Halifax County

(Halifax County, NC) -- Sheriff's Deputies in Halifax County are investigating a rash of drive-by shootings over the past few days. The first was reported around 10:am Thursday morning near the intersection of 8th and Chestnut Streets in Scotland Neck. Two other shootings happened just before midnight Saturday in the area of Bynums Bridge Road. There were no reports of injuries, but several homes and vehicles have been damaged by gunfire. Law enforcement also report that in each shooting, an AR-15 assault rifle was used.

North Regional Library In Wake County Set To Re-Open Today

(Wake County, NC) -- After being closed for nearly nine months, the North Regional Library in Wake County is scheduled to re-open today. County officials shut down the facility back in October to allow for one-point-nine-million dollars in renovations, including updated flooring, lighting, entrance doors, ceilings and fresh paint. The location on Harps Mill Road has the third largest book circulation and visitation rate in the Wake County Public Library System.

New Safety Rules For Downtown Raleigh Buildings Go Into Effect Today

(Raleigh, NC) -- Today is the day that a set of new rules for downtown Raleigh buildings are scheduled to go into effect. Initially approved by the City Council back in 2019, the rules are designed to specifically enhance security at the Raleigh Municipal Building, One Exchange Plaza and 310-West Martin Street. Some of the revisions will include size limits on signs allowed inside the buildings, modifications on certain items that can be brought into the buildings, bag checks and the addition of a magnetometer. The rules will apply to the general public and staff members.

Mudcats Beat The Woodpeckers 5-4 In Ten-Innings Sunday

(Fayetteville, NC) -- The Carolina Mudcats beat the Fayetteville Woodpeckers Sunday in a 10-inning thriller that saw the game all tied up 4-4 in the seventh. But at the top of the 10th, Jesus Chirinos cranked out a double to bring in Oswald Leone to clinch the victory 5-4. Despite the loss, Fayetteville won the five game series 3-games to two.
