(Asheville, NC) -- Gas prices around western North Carolina remain well above the state average. Triple-A reports the cost for a gallon of regular unleaded sits at just under four-dollars-a-gallon in the Asheville area. That number sits well above the statewide average of three-75. North Carolina's prices have dropped 60-cents in the last month.
Investigators Look Ito Linville Drowning
(Linville, NC) -- A suspected drowning is being investigated in western North Carolina. Emergency officials were called to Lake James in the Linville area on Saturday. A National Forest Services official told WLOS-TV people should be aware because they don't know what's under the water's surface. Details from the investigation are limited.
Marion Man Charged After Wreck
(Marion, NC) -- A Marion man is facing several charges in a major crash. Two people were seriously hurt in a wreck on North Main Street in Marion in late July. The driver is accused of hit-and-run, driving while license revoked, exceeding a safe speed and more. One of the victims seriously injured was a juvenile.
Rifles Allowed In Madison County Schools
(Madison County, NC) -- Madison County Schools is increasing security in a big way. The Citizen Times reports AR-15s are being made available in every school to enhance security in active shooter situations. Madison's sheriff says it may be discomforting to some, but it's a necessary response given the state of the country. A live training scenario in the school system will be held on August 17th.
Man Arrested After Fleeing In Rutherford County
(Rutherford County, NC) -- A suspect is facing charges after a police chase in the mountains. Deputies in Rutherford County pulled over a man last weekend on U.S. 221 that was wanted on multiple charges. He was reportedly driving a car stolen out of Polk County, Charges included fleeing, resisting an officer, failure to appear and more.
Fire Damages Asheville Home
(Asheville, NC) -- A fire is being investigated in Asheville. Firefighters rushed out to Haw Creek Circle yesterday, where a home was severely damaged in a blaze. WLOS-TV reported the family wasn't at the residence when flames broke out. No one was injured, while the cause is still being investigated.
Hundreds Of Flights Delayed, Canceled At CLT
(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte Douglas International Airport is attempting to push passengers through as normal today. Flight Aware reports over 400 flights were either cancelled or delayed yesterday due to weather problems. It comes after several hundred were also delayed out of CLT the day before. Bad weather has been the source of flight problems over the last two weekends.
Teen Faces Charges In Lake Wylie Death
(Lake Wylie, SC) -- A teen is facing murder charges after a man was found dead at Lake Wylie. It's been roughly two-months since a woman came across the victim on a walking trail near Quigley Park. Investigators now say a 17-year-old shot the man to death. The teen was arrested over the weekend for murder and other charges.
Several Productions Filmed In Charlotte

WBTV says the industry is bringing five productions to the Queen City in 2022, including a Saturday Night Live filming in the last week. Federal Judge Expected To Reinstate Abortion Ban This Week
(Raleigh, NC) -- This could be the week that North Carolina Federal Judge William Osteen Jr. decides whether to reinstate a ban on abortions after 20-weeks of pregnancy. The Judge has ordered attorneys on both sides of the debate to submit briefs by this week. Osteen struck down the ban as unconstitutional in 2019. But after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, many legal scholars believe he has no other legal alternative but to reinstate the law. They also agree that the ultimate decision on whether abortions will remain legal in North Carolina, will rest in the hands of the voters in the November general election.
Teen Shot To Death At Huge Nash County Party; Suspects Still On The Loose
(Nash County, NC) -- Authorities in Nash County are looking for suspects who fired shots at a large social gathering over the weekend, killing a 17-year old and wounding another individual. It happened around 1:30 Sunday morning at a party attended by an estimated 200-people along the 3600-block of Lonesome Pine Road in Whitakers. Investigators say it's believed the shooting erupted after two rival groups got into an argument. The suspected shooter reportedly left the scene before police arrived. The victims' identities were not released. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Nash County Sheriff's Office.
Slain Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy To Be Laid To Rest Tomorrow
(Wayne County, NC) -- Hundreds of fellow law enforcement officers are expected to join family and friends tomorrow, for the funeral of slain Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Fishman, who was killed in the line of duty last week. The services will be held at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive University's Kornegay sports arena. Fishman and two other deputies were shot and wounded when they went to a home to serve an involuntary commitment warrant. Fishman died a day later at a hospital. The two other deputies are recovering at home.
Wake County Health Accepting Appointments For More Monkeypox Vaccinations This Week
(Wake County, NC) -- The number of Monkeypox cases in North Carolina rose to 95-over the weekend. This, as the Wake County Health Center administered 550-doses of vaccines on Saturday before they ran out. In preparation for the next walk-in Monkeypox vaccine clinic, Wake County Public Health is encouraging eligible recipients to register with the call center for an appointment.
Fayetteville City Council To Hold Public Hearing On Near 100-Million Dollar Bond Proposal Tonight
(Fayetteville, NC) -- The Fayetteville City Council will host a public hearing tonight to discuss a proposed 97-million dollar bond issue. Revenue generated from the sale of bonds would go to help fund repairs and upgrades to streets, sidewalks, housing and public safety. If approved, it could add as much as four cents to the City's property tax rate. The proposal will appear on the November 8th General Election ballot.
Durham Bulls Come Back To Even Series Against The Red Sox 3-3
(Durham, NC) -- The Durham Bulls ended a six-game series against the Worcester Red Sox Sunday, by coming away with an even 3-3 split and a 9-3 victory at Polo Park. Bulls scoring runs in the second, sixth, seventh and eight innings to seal the win. Tristan Gray got a homer off center to extend his reign as the International League's leading home run hitter with 25-on the season. One Killed, Two Injured in Dillard Street Shooting
(Greensboro, NC) -- One person has been killed and two others injured following a shooting early Sunday evening. Greensboro Police say the found the victim, who has not been identified, in the 800 block of Dillard Street. That person died later from their injuries. Two other people who were injured were taken to Moses Cone with non-critical injuries. The investigation into the shooting continues.
Twelve-Year-Old And 14-Year-Old Critical After Dirt Bike Crash
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Police say two young teens are in critical condition after a dirt bike crash over the weekend. Winston-Salem Police say it happened on Yarbrough Avenue when the teens who were on the dirt bike collided with a car traveling down Sunny Drive Northwest. The teens are both in critical condition, one of them with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car was not injured.
73-YO Man Succumbs to Injuries from June Traffic Collision
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem Police say a 73-year-old man who was a passenger in a car that got hit in a June collision has died of his injuries. The June 17th crash happened near the intersection of Griffith Road and Hampton Road when a woman who had stopped suddenly was rear-ended by a box truck. Her car was pushed into a head-on collision with Karen Myers. James Lee Myers, who was 73, was the passenger who later died. The Department's Traffic Enforcement continues to investigate.
Fourth Street Closing at Trade Street Tuesday for Sewer Work
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- City engineers in Winston-Salem say the intersection of Fourth and Trade streets downtown will be closed starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday, August 9th. The planned construction to upgrade sewer lines under the intersection will close Fourth between Cherry and Liberty streets, and Trade Street between Fourth and Fifth streets. The work is set to be finished by Friday afternoon.
Wake Releases Results of Research on Aerobic Exercise
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Researchers at Wake Forest University have released their study concerning Alzheimer's and exercise. It shows that regular stretching, balance and range of motion exercises have just as much benefit in helping to prevent cognitive decline as rigorous aerobic workouts. The study's author says for geriatric exercisers, they found that cognitive function didn't decline over 12 months for either intervention group. She says the results are good news for people who can do only moderate amounts of exercise.
