Four Injured In Asheville Shooting
(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville police are continuing to investigate a downtown shooting. Four people were taken to the hospital after gunfire erupted on Grove Street early Saturday morning. WLOS-TV reports three of them had been released from care before the end of the day. It's unclear if any suspects have been charged.
Nothing Found After Plane Crash Reported
(Hendersonville, NC) -- There's no evidence of a plane crash in Henderson County despite a claim otherwise. Emergency officials went out on a search close to the Hendersonville airport after a call that a plane went down late Sunday afternoon. Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue said they found nothing.
Hendersonville Leaders Consider Social Districts
(Hendersonville, NC) -- Hendersonville leaders are looking at the possibility of social districts. The city council is expected to discuss the idea this week at the request of council member Lyndsey Simpson. A recently new state law allows cities to create areas where visitors are allowed to carry alcoholic drinks outside. At least 20 cities or towns in the state have created social district.
UNC Asheville Ranks High On Some Princeton Review Lists
(Asheville, NC) -- The Princeton Review is giving UNC Asheville some high marks in its findings for 2023. The school landed at number-six out of nearly 400 colleges for its support for environmental awareness and conservation efforts. The review also listed U-N-C-A in the top 25 for best quality of life, town-gown relations and friendliness for the LGBTQ community.
Car Drives Off Bridge In Franklin
(Franklin, NC) -- A wreck in Franklin is being called bizarre, but miraculous by Franklin police. A car landed on top of another after driving off a bridge on U.S. Highway 64 on Friday. Two people helped pull out the driver of the car on top, which had caught fire upon impact. No other injuries were reported. The driver was last said to be stable.
Road Closures Affect Great Smoky Mountains
(Asheville, NC) -- A couple of scenic stretches in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be temporarily shut down soon. Park officials say Clingmans Dome Road will be closed part of the day this Friday for a special curriculum-based education program. The road will be closed again September 7th, while Cades Cove Loop Road will shut down for similar reasons on September 8th. Look Rock Observation Tower is being offered as an alternate scenic solution.
Charlotte Pride Hits Record Attendance
(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte Pride is back in a big way. Organizers told WBTV that a record 275-thousand people flocked to Uptown for the annual weekend event. This year marked the first time in-person activities have been held since before the pandemic. Yesterday's parade featured more than ten-thousand participants.
Child Injured In Gastonia Shooting
(Gastonia, NC) -- A child is being treated for serious injuries suffered in a Gastonia shooting. Investigators say they believe shots were fired from outside a home on West 4th Avenue Friday night. A nine-year-old inside the home was hit and rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A witness told WCNC Charlotte that ten shots were fired.
Charlotte Council Voting On Development Ordinance
(Charlotte, NC) -- The future of Charlotte's zoning laws is in play tonight. The city council is set to take a vote on the Unified Development Ordinance, which would wipe out certain restrictions on single-family home zoning regulations. Those against the measure are concerned it will drive housings higher. Supporters feel it could help with the housing shortage, since duplexes and larger could be built instead.
More Delays And Cancellations At CLT
(Charlotte, NC) -- A good number of delays and cancellations are being reported out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport again. Flight Aware listed over 200 delays on Sunday alone, with more than two-dozen flights called off all together. WCNC Charlotte reports C-L-T has been one of the hardest-hit airports this summer by delays and cancellations. It's unclear exactly what caused yesterday's delays.
Former Panthers' Trainer Gets Probation
(Charlotte, NC) -- The former longtime trainer for the Carolina Panthers is being punished in connection to a drug investigation. Investigators say Ryan Vermillion is serving a year on probation after he gave opioids to players on the Washington Commanders without a prescription. His plea deal was approved last week. Vermillion worked for the Panthers from 2002 to 2020.
Man Injured In Shooting At Charlotte Restaurant
(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a shooting at a southwest Charlotte restaurant. Officers found a man injured in the parking lot of the Showmars on South Tryon Street Saturday night. Injuries were considered life-threatening. The search is on for suspects.

A loss to Orlando City on the road yesterday dropped Charlotte FC to tenth in the Eastern Conference standings. North Carolina Couple To Be Formally Charged With Murder After Baby Found Buried In Back Yard
(Erwin, NC) -- A Harnett County couple is scheduled to make an initial court appearance today, after being charged with first degree murder in connection with a dead baby who was found buried in a back yard. 28-year old Dustin VanDyke and 18-year old Gracie Riddle were arrested Friday, when police secured a search warrant and, with the use of K-9 cadaver dogs, discovered the infant's body buried behind a home on Moulton Springs Road in Erwin. Investigators believe the child had been buried there since around Thanksgiving. An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Protesters Demand New Get-Tough Laws Be Passed Against Fentanyl Dealing
(Raleigh, NC) -- Dozens of activists gathered outside the State Capitol in Raleigh Sunday, for a 'Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Rally'. The crowd, made up mostly of family members of young people who have died of fentanyl overdoes. The event was held as data released by the North Carolina Chief Medical Examiner's Office, showed there were 314-suspected fentanyl overdose deaths during the month of July alone. The group called on legislative leaders to pass laws imposing higher bonds and stiffer penalties for those found guilty of dealing in fentanyl.
Raleigh Residents Turn Out In Large Numbers To Surrender Guns At Buyback Event
(Raleigh, NC) -- Hundreds turned out in Raleigh on Saturday for the city's first annual gun buyback event. Hosted by the Raleigh Police Department, nearly 150-people surrendered 267-functional guns and at least 11-that were considered non-functional. The City of Raleigh offered gift cards of up to 200-dollars to those who turned in firearms as part of an effort to reduce violent crime. Records show there have been at least 69-shootings in Raleigh during the first six months of 2022. Those figures are higher than during the same periods in 2021 and in 2020.
Raleigh Native Wins Miss Wheelchair America At National Competition
(Raleigh, NC) -- Raleigh native Ali Ingersoll was crowned Miss Wheelchair America on Saturday. The week long event held in Grand Rapids Michigan, featured 21-contestants from across the country. Ingersoll, who was paralyzed from the chest down following a vehicle accident in 2010, advocated changes in insurance policy's for people in wheelchairs as part of her platform. The 39-year old day trader also works to assist people in navigating insurance appeals.
GoDurham Getting Six New All-Electric Buses
(Durham, NC) -- The City of Durham will soon be adding six new buses to its GoDurham fleet. The fully electric buses are being purchased with a 5-point-7 million dollar federal grant, which is part of the 1-point-6 billion dollar Bipartisan Infrastructure Law recently passed by Congress. The electric buses are expected to have a driving range of about 150-miles per charge.

Multiple Deadly Shootings Investigated In Winston-Salem
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Multiple shooting deaths are being reported in Winston-Salem. One person died and another was injured when shots were fired on East Devonshire Street Saturday. Officers say a man was also killed on Sink Street overnight Saturday. It's unclear if any suspects have been charged or arrested.
Urban Loop Nearing Completion
(Greensboro, NC) -- The Greensboro Urban Loop is nearing completion. The North Carolina Department of Transportation told WFMY that the project should be completed ahead of time in early 2023. Construction has been on-going to complete the loop between Elm Street and U.S. 29 in Greensboro.

Suspect Arrested In Greensboro Homicide
(Greensboro, NC) -- The suspect behind a Greensboro July homicide is behind bars. A 19-year-old was arrested over the weekend in connection to the murder of 21-year-old Keyonna Walker. She was found shot to death at a home on East Whittington Street on July 25th.
Silver Alert Issued For Winston-Salem Man
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem police are looking for a man. A silver alert was issued late Sunday afternoon for 62-year-old Thomas Covington. Officers say the four-foot-eleven man was last seen wearing pajama pants when he disappeared from Barbara Jane Avenue early Sunday morning.
