(Asheville, NC) -- A petition is circulating to stop roadwork on Merrimon Avenue in Asheville. Crews have been working to convert the road into one travel lane in each direction, a center turn lane and bike lanes. More than 14-hundred people had signed a petition as of this morning, with concerns over massive traffic back-ups. The city told WLOS-TV the project can improve safety and lower speeds.
Pilot Parking Program Okayed In Asheville
(Asheville, NC) -- Buncombe County commissioners are moving forward with a pilot parking program in downtown Asheville. Around 150 parking spots will be available at a reduced monthly rate for workers who make 20-dollars or less per hour. The cost under the program will drop from 85-to-40-bucks monthly. Proof of employment and income is required.
Flu Cases Still Rising In WNC
(Asheville, NC) -- Flu cases are still high in western North Carolina. Local health officials say cases in the mountain region have doubled in the last week. Six patients were being treated for the flu at Pardee UNC Healthcare yesterday. The Mission Pediatric E-R has also reported a significant increase in child flu and RSV numbers.
Woodfin Residents Upset Over Proposed Development
(Woodfin, NC) -- Some property owners could take the town of Woodfin to court over a proposed development. A complex with 110 condos called Robinhood Residential is being proposed. WLOS-TV reports over 100 people showed up in opposition to the development at last night's planning board meeting. Traffic and drainage issues are among concerns.
Nonprofit Using Food Truck To Help Needy
(Asheville, NC) -- An Asheville nonprofit is operating a new food truck. BeLoved Asheville will hit the road to serve those in need as part of a food operation called Mama's Kitchen. Food choices will focus on Appalachian, African-American and Latino cultural dishes. Several grants helped go towards the purchase of the truck.
Cost Of Frasier Firs Increasing This Season
(Glennville, NC) -- It may cost a bit extra to celebrate the holidays with a Frasier Fir this year. The manager of Bear Valley Christmas Tree Farm in Glennville told WLOS-TV prices will most likely be about 20-percent more this year than last. He says an increase in cost for fertilizer and herbicides, combined with lower supply is driving the price higher. An eight-foot tree could run at least 125-dollars.
CMPD: No Serial Killer Despite Rumors
(Charlotte, NC) -- Rumors of a serial killer in Charlotte are false. The CMPD had to clarify yesterday that there's no danger after a post surfaced on TikTok about multiple linked death investigations involving women. Several of the cases mentioned ended up involving overdoses where no foul play was suspected. The police department said spreading unverified information is harmful.

Former Police Chief Pushes Bond For Neighborhood Improvements
(Charlotte, NC) -- A former CMPD chief is throwing support behind a bond that would improve Charlotte's most distressed neighborhoods. Voters are considering whether or not the city will spend 30-million-dollars on things like new sidewalks, lights and storm drainage. Six neighborhoods have been identified for the projects. Former Chief Kerr Putney told WCNC it's about making Charlotte ready for the next ten-to-20-years.
Three Injured In Gastonia Machete Assault
(Gastonia, NC) -- A suspect is accused of using a machete in a Gastonia assault. Investigators say three men were injured in an attack on Redding Street Tuesday morning. The suspect fled on a bike, but was caught by officers a little while later. Another victim was injured in a separate attack with a machete in Iredell County this week.
CATS Holding Input Meeting For Light Rail Expansion

The plan is for a 29-mile line from Belmont across Charlotte into Union County. More than 30-stations are included in the project. Charlotte Knights Unveil New Look
(Charlotte, NC) -- A new look is coming for the Charlotte Knights. The minor league baseball team unveiled a new color scheme, logo and uniforms yesterday. The new colors are meant to match-up more closely with those of the Hornets, Panthers and Charlotte FC. The Knights will be entering their tenth season in the Queen City in 2023.
Police Arrest Orange County Man In Connection With Road Rage Shooting Monday
(Orange County, NC) -- An Orange County man suspected in a road rage shooting that injured a child in Hillsborough, was taken into custody Tuesday. Forty-one-year-old Kelly Brandon Long was arrested and charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. The four-year-old child who was injured, is expected to make a full recovery.
Durham Teen Dies After She Was Hit By An SUV While Out Trick-Or-Treating
(Durham, NC) -- A Durham girl who was struck by a vehicle while out trick-or-treating Monday night, has died from her injuries. Authorities say 14-year old Aliyah Thornhill was walking with a friend in the area of the Haw River and Apple Grove Road in Oak Ridge, when both teens were hit by an SUV. The driver did remain on the scene. The injured girl was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead. So far, no charges have been filed.

AG Stein Announces Investigation Into Illegal Robocalls In North Carolina And Nation

In a statement released Tuesday, Stein said the Anti Robocall Litigation Task Force is currently investigating two internet phone service providers, to determine if they have illegally routed robocalls to millions of Americans. The A.G. also said Avid Telecom and One Eye LLC, have so-far failed to respond to their investigative demands.
Fiance' Of One Of The Victims Of Raleigh Mass Shooting Demands City Council Quits
(Raleigh, NC) -- The fiance' of one of the victims of the mass shooting in Raleigh last month, is calling for the resignation of the entire City Council. Robert Steele, who was engaged to Mary Marshall, made the demands during the Council's regular meeting last night. Steele blamed Raleigh and Wake County leaders for not having an emergency alert system in place on the evening of October 13th, when Marshall and four others were shot and killed. He also said "an alert sent out about an active shooter, anytime between the first 911-call and approximately 5:20 p.m., would have most likely saved her life."

Driver Killed in Head-On Collision
(Kernersville, NC) -- Kernersville Police have not yet released the name of a person who died in a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon. It happened in the 13-hundrd block of Shields Road off of US 66. One other person was taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries. Officials also haven't released any information about what caused the crash.
City Bus Service Expected to be Normal Wednesday
(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro officials say the city's transit service should be operating normally Wednesday. On Tuesday, some drivers staged a strike in the middle of their shifts, leaving customers stranded at area stops and transfer points. The drivers were reportedly upset about the cost of some medical benefits. The city says the drivers' actions stemmed from a misunderstanding and benefits experts will be on hand Wednesday to clarify issues.
Officials Identify Killed Pedestrian on I-40
(Greensboro, PA) -- Police have released the name of a 43-year-old man who died after he was struck on Interstate-40 Friday. Officials say two drivers were unable to avoid hitting 43-year-old Jason Kidd of Greensboro and he died at the scene near Guilford College Road. It's not known why he was on the roadway. The two drivers accused of hitting Kidd stayed at the scene to assist police.
Veteran's Day Parade Set for Saturday in Downtown Greensboro
(Greensboro, PA) -- City leaders have announced details for Greensboro's 6th Annual Veterans Day Parade. The event, hosted by the Disabled American Veterans - Chapter 20, begins at noon Saturday, November 5th . The parade will start and end in front of the Kontoor Brands building at Elm and East Lindsay Streets. It will honor local Gold Star families and will also showcase those who served in World War Two, the Korean and Vietnam Wars and women veterans.
Part of World Trade Towers Now Displayed at High Point University
(High Point, NC) -- Some three-thousand pounds of steel from the wreckage of the World Trade Towers is now on display at High Point University. The material was installed Tuesday underneath an American Flag display inside the school's conference center. The university says the material from the fallen towers was donated by a parent and the D-H Griffin company, which did restoration work after the 9-11 attacks. Officials say they wanted the display to be complete before Veteran's Day.
