Jackson County Man Imprisoned For Murder
(Jackson County, NC) -- A Jackson County man is heading to prison for a shooting over a farm argument. Kenneth McCall was accused of shooting a man to death on property at the Pinhook Family Campground in October 2020. The victim reportedly shot a pig that was rooting up land on the property. A judge sentenced McCall to a minimum of 23-years in prison yesterday.
Buncombe's Health Director Leaving Post
(Buncombe County, NC) -- Buncombe County's public health director is leaving her post. Stacie Saunders is leaving her local role at the end of this year, after serving in the position since August 2020. Saunders is moving on to become a deputy director of community support for North Carolina Health and Human Services. She said it was a pleasure and an honor to serve as public health director for Buncombe County.
Another Gingerbread Competition Complete At Grove Park Inn
(Asheville, NC) -- Another gingerbread house competition is complete at the Omni Grove Park Inn. Ann Bailey from Cary won the grand prize for her display called "When Dreams Have Wings." Her creation and others will be on display between next Monday and January 2nd. The marked the 30th year of the competition.
Suspect Arrested For Catawba County Murder
(Hickory, NC) -- A suspect is behind bars for a murder in Catawba County. Officers arrested a suspect after a man was shot to death at a home on 14th Avenue Southwest on Sunday. He was caught near a car dealership a short while away from the scene. The suspect is being held without bond.
Cultural Center To Be Renovated In Asheville
(Asheville, NC) -- A big renovation is coming to the YMI Cultural Center in Asheville. WLOS-TV reports six-million-dollars is being used to overhaul the downtown location, which has served the Black community for more than a century. The last modernization of the building was 40-years ago.
High Winds Reported In WNC
(Asheville, NC) -- Report of high winds are being confirmed in western North Carolina. WLOS-TV reports gusts at the swinging bridge on Grandfather Mountain peaked at over 80-miles-an-hour last weekend. Despite the strength, the wind gust reached nowhere near the previous high of 124 in February 2019.
Home Sales Down In Charlotte
(Charlotte, NC) -- Home sales are continuing to dip in Charlotte. The Canopy Realtor Association reports home sales fell 30-percent in October, compared to the same month a year ago. There was also a 16-percent decline from one-month before. Around 35-hundred homes were sold in the greater Charlotte area in October.
Suspects Hold Over A Dozen At Gunpoint During Home Invasion
(Salisbury, NC) -- Salisbury police are looking for suspects in a home invasion. Witnesses say more than a dozen people were held at gunpoint at a home on South Shaver Street late Saturday night. Two suspects got away with around 200-dollars and a laptop after ransacking the home. No injuries were reported.

Charlotte Gas Prices Down Ahead Of Thanksgiving
(Charlotte, NC) -- Gas prices are a little lower for drivers in the Charlotte area heading into Thanksgiving. Triple-A reports this morning the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded sits at three-30 a gallon. That's two cents lower than Monday and 22-cents under the rate a month ago. Prices were a little lower last year at three-17-a-gallon.
Roads Closing For Thanksgiving Parade
(Charlotte, NC) -- The city of Charlotte is making preparations ahead of the Novant Health Thanksgiving Parade. The block on Tryon between Brooklyn Village and Good Samaritan Way shut down starting today. Portions of Tryon Street and Martin Luther King, Junior Boulevard will be closed starting early tomorrow morning ahead of that evening's parade. The route runs from 9th to Morehead along Tryon.

Click It Or Ticket Campaign Now Underway In North Carolina
(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina's annual Thanksgiving Click it or Ticket campaign got underway Monday. During the seven day campaign that runs through Sunday, the Highway Patrol will be keeping a close eye out for drivers and passengers who are not wearing their seat belts. There will also be stepped up patrols on state roadways in an effort to crack down on drunk, distracted driving and speeding. This comes as the latest data shows that in 2021, there were 555-deaths and 11-hundred-50 serious injuries in North Carolina attributed to motorists not wearing their seat belts.
Large Crowds And Possible Delays Predicted At RDU This Holiday Weekend
(Mooresville, NC) -- Officials at RDU are advising passengers to prepare for long lines at terminals this weekend, as demand for air travel is up eight-percent across the country this year. Experts are predicting four-point-five million Americans will fly to and from their destinations between Wednesday and Sunday, an increase of 330-thousand over the same period in 2021. RDU recommends reserving parking spaces ahead of time and arriving at the airport at least two hours early.
President And First Lady Host "Friendsgiving" Celebration With North Carolina Marines And Navy Personnel
(Craven County, NC) -- President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden visited military troops in North Carolina Monday, as part of a holiday "Friendsgiving" celebration. At the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, the couple helped serve Thanksgiving meals to more than 400-service members and their families. The President also spent time going table-to-table thanking Marines and Navy personnel for their sacrifices. Governor Roy Cooper and his wife Kristin were also on hand for the Thanksgiving celebration.
Charitable Giving Up Almost 40-Percent Across North Carolina This Year
(Raleigh, NC) -- A new report by the North Carolina Secretary of State's Office shows charitable giving in the state increased by nearly 40-percent over last year. Secretary Elaine Marshall said that represents about 47-point-5 million dollars people in North Carolina have donated to state charities so-far in 2022. The report released Monday, did not include contributions made to schools, churches or national and regional non-profit organizations.
Wake County Approves 35-Million To Create More Affordable Housing Across The Region
(Wake County, NC) -- The Wake County Commission has approved a 35-million dollar allocation for affordable housing. In a unanimous vote Monday, members approved the funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to finance more construction, repairs and operation of affordable housing as a way of offsetting the recent rise in rents, as well as reduce the level of homelessness in Wake County. The funds must be used by December of 2026.
Duke Downs Bellarmine In A Hard Fought Battle At Cameron Indoor Stadium
(Durham, NC) -- The Duke men's basketball team had a tough time against a scrappy Bellarmine squad at Cameron Indoor Stadium last night. This despite the 74-57 win over the Knights. With Bellermine doing a masterful job in covering the paint, the Blue Devils were forced to rely on pinpoint shooting from beyond the arc, with five players scoring at least two 3-pointers. Kyle Filipowski led all Duke scorers with 18-points for the fourth time this season. Jacob Grandison scored 16-off the bench. Duke takes on Oregon State Thursday in Portland.
Driver Killed, 3 Badly Injured In Head-On Reidsville Crash
(Greensboro, NC) -- One person has died and three others have been hospitalized following a head-on crash in Reidsville. First responders were called to the crash in the 2100 block of Freeway Drive about 3:30 p.m. Monday after a southbound truck crossed the median and hit another truck head-on. The driver of the truck that crossed the median died. Three people in the other vehicle were seriously injured. Police haven't yet released the name of the victim.
Sheetz Lowering Gas Prices For Thanksgiving Week
(Raleigh, NC) -- Hundreds of Sheetz gas stations are lowering their gas prices ahead of Thanksgiving. The chain is dropping its Unleaded 88 fuel to one dollar and 99-cents a gallon. The offer is available through Monday, November 28th at more than 360 locations, which can be found on the company's website. Sheetz says the Unleaded 88 gas, which has five-percent more ethanol, is approved by the EPA for cars built after 2001.
Man Allegedly Threatens Nonprofit Group, also to kill FBI Agent
(Greensboro, NC) -- A Stokesdale man is accused of threatening a nonprofit and also threatening to kill an FBI agent. The federal agency says Stephen Williams was arrested Friday after a nonprofit called the Good Information Foundation received an email which called on them to quit what was seen as the non-profit's attempts to harm MAGA Republicans and Donald Trump. Leaders at the Good Information Foundation reported the threatening email to the FBI, who traced it to Williams and arrested him. Williams also allegedly threatened an FBI agent who went to his home to interview him about the email.
Backyard Plane Crash Debris Removed
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- National Transportation Safety Board and FAA investigators have begun removing plane wreckage from a Winston-Salem backyard. Fire Chief Joe Ramsey says two people died in the crash that happened Saturday morning near New Walkertown Road and Kern Drive. An NTSB official said the Piper PA-30 plane was coming from London, Kentucky. The victims have not officially been identified.
Another Gun Store Robbed by Car Crash
(Lexington, NC) -- A Lexington gun store is the latest target of a recent string of gun shop break-ins across the Piedmont Triad. Surveillance video shows a car crashing into the M and T Pawn Shop on Main Street in Lexington early Sunday. It also shows four suspects rummaging through merchandise and stealing several guns. The store manager says the federal ATF bureau is trying to determine what was taken. A Yadkinville gun store was hit twice in one month and police have arrested four people in connection with that crime.
