(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville's interim superintendent will serve through the end of the school year. The district's board of education approved a six-month contract extension for Dr. Jim Causby on Friday. A deeper search for a permanent superintendent is expected to start later this month when new school board members are sworn-in. The previous superintendent, Gene Freeman, retired this fall.
Wildfire Reaches 800-Acres
(Haywood County, NC) -- The U.S. Forest Service is investigating the cause of the Hurricane Ridge fire. Around 800-acres had burned in Haywood County by the weekend, with more than 50-percent contained. Fire investigators said there were no expected threats for the fire to spread past the containment area. It initially began just before Thanksgiving.
Two Arrested In Henderson County Homicide
(Henderson County, NC) -- Two suspects are facing charges in a Henderson County homicide. Investigators say 47-year-old Daniel Case was found shot to death in a remote part of the county last week after going missing. A Saluda man was arrested for second-degree homicide, while a woman is accused of being an accessory.
Alcohol Sales At High For Buncombe County
(Asheville, NC) -- Alcohol sales are continuing to grow in Buncombe County. The Citizen-Times reports numbers from the ABC board, which show sales over 50-million-dollars for 2022. That has surpassed last year's numbers by around six-million-dollars. Sales figures have more than doubled since 2013.
Suspect Arrested For Asheville Drug Trafficking
(Asheville, NC) -- A suspect drug trafficker is accused of multiple charges in Asheville. Officers found the suspect with fentanyl and cocaine during a traffic stop on Tunnel Road Friday. The man was also in possession of a ballistic vest. The sheriff says his office will continue to dismantle high-level drug trafficking operations.

Two Children Dead In Salisbury Fire
(Salisbury, NC) -- Firefighters are investigating a deadly blaze in Salisbury. Two children were killed when flames spread through a home on South Church Street early Saturday morning. One adult was injured. A firefighter was also treated for injuries at the scene, but is expected to be okay.
NC State Coming To Charlotte For Bowl
(Charlotte, NC) -- NC State is coming to the Queen City for its bowl game. The Wolfpack will play in the Duke's Mayo Bowl against Maryland on New Year's Eve at Bank of America Stadium. The college playoff committee ranked NC State at number-23 in its final rankings yesterday. The Wolfpack finished the season at eight-and-four.
Student Dies After Shooting Near Bus Stop
(Charlotte, NC) -- Charges are expected to be upgraded in the shooting of a CMS student. The CMPD says a 17-year-old from Rocky River High School died on Friday, two-days after he was shot after leaving a school bus on Lanza Drive. A juvenile was initially arrested for attempted murder.
Suspect Arrested After Hickory Shooting
(Hickory, NC) -- Another suspect is behind bars for a murder in Hickory. Officers arrested an 18-year-old on Friday in connection to an early November shooting that killed one man and injured another. One suspect was arrested in mid-November. Another is still at-large.

Gunfire Attack Moore County Substation Leaves Thousands Without Power

According to Duke Energy, an estimated 40-thousand customers were left without service, after someone discharged firearms into two substations Saturday night. Power company officials say it could take several days before service is fully restored. So-far, no suspects have been arrested in this case.
Controversial North Carolina Congressional Redistricting Case Goes Before The U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday
(Washington, DC) -- The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments Wednesday, in a case that could impact the way Congressional district lines are drawn all over the country. North Carolina Republicans are challenging a State Supreme Court ruling back in February, that threw out district maps drawn up by the GOP majority in the NC General Assembly. Those maps, according to the High Court, gives and unfair advantage to Republicans in elections. The case of Moore v. Harper argues that state legislatures should have the final say in determining Congressional district lines.
Teen Aged Mother Missing In Cumberland County Since Saturday
(Cumberland County, NC) -- The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help in locating a teen aged mother who went missing over the weekend. Sixteen year old Tikhia Underwood and her one-month old baby girl were last seen around 6:40 pm Saturday leaving their home on Grouper Drive in Fayetteville. Family members say the teen suffers from a medical condition that requires medication. She is described as Black, about 5-feet-8 inches tall and 260-pounds. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
Wolf Alert Issued After Alleged Sexual Assault At NC State's Lambda Chi Alpha House
(Raleigh, NC) -- Police in Raleigh are looking for a suspect in connection with a sexual assault that reportedly occurred at a fraternity house on the campus of NC State. According to a "Wolf Alert" issued Sunday, the alleged attack happened before midnight Friday at the Lambda Chi Alpha House on campus. Police released a description of the suspect as being a While male between the ages of 18-20 years old. He is about 5-feet-6 inches tall, about 140-to-180 pounds and wearing a Christmas seater. Five Triangle Are Football Teams Selected To Play In Post Season Bowl Games
(Raleigh, NC) -- The post season college football bowl schedules have been announced, with North Carolina universities being well represented. NC State will be matched up against former ACC rival Maryland on December 30th, in the Duke Mayo Bowl in Charlotte. North Carolina will play Oregon in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego on December 28th. Duke will travel to Annapolis, Maryland to take on Central Florida in the Military Bowl on December, 28th. Former NC State Lineman Arrested For Making Threats Against Coach Doeren
(Raleigh, NC) -- A former NC State football player has been jailed for making threats against head coach Dave Doeren. Authorities say 22-year old Joseph Boletepeli, who played on the defensive line for the Wolfpack between 2018 and 2019 before transferring to Maryland, was arrested on December 1st. He is charged with sending threatening messages to Doeren via texts and social media. Investigators say he also went to Doren's place of work several times. Boletepeli is being held on a 500-thousand dollar bond.
Several Seriously Injured After Impaired Man Causes Wrong-Way Collision
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem Police say a 44-year-old man is facing DWI, speeding and reckless driving charges after he caused a collision while driving the wrong way on a major road. Both Peter Bosch and another driver were pinned inside their cars after Bosch reportedly was driving the wrong way on U.S. 421 near Peters Creek Parkway early Sunday. The head-on collision also injured three others.
Two People Die in Whitsett Home Shooting
(Guilford County, NC) -- Deputies with the Guilford County Sheriff's office are investigating the circumstances of two people who were shot and killed inside their home Saturday night. The sheriff's department went to the home on Long Meadow Drive in Whitsett Saturday to find two people who had been shot. They died at the scene a short time later. Deputies say it was likely an isolated incident; the names of the victims haven't been released yet.
Young Man Dies In Crash After Leading Deputies On Chase
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Officials have released the identity of a driver who died in a crash Friday night after leading authorities on a chase. Deputies with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office say 21-year-old Jovannie Sotelo died in the crash at the intersection of Clemmonsville and Thomasville roads. They say they tried to pull over Sotelo for a traffic stop, but he drove away and later crashed into another car that was stationary. That driver was taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries. The sheriff's office did not give the reason for their original pursuit.

(Moore County, NC) -- A state of emergency is in effect and a mandatory curfew has been issued in Moore County, North Carolina. That's after authorities say thousands of customers have lost power after two electrical substations were damaged by gunfire Saturday night. It's being investigated as a "criminal occurrence" after crews found signs of intentional vandalism. Duke Energy officials say the outage has affected some 40-thousand-people and some of those without power could remain so until Thursday.
Assault Suspect Turns Self In, Now Out on Bail
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A man wanted in connection with a shooting last month has been arrested and charged after turning himself in. Winston-Salem Police say Derek Speaks was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He surrendered to authorities at the Forsyth County Detention Center last Tuesday. He was released on bond and is set to appear in court on Dec. 8th. Police said the victim of the shooting remains in the hospital.
