(Asheville, NC) -- A project to add permanent supportive housing for the homeless in Asheville is about to begin. Ground will break today at the site of a former Ramada Inn on Rover Ford Parkway. The plan is to create more than 100-units at the site.

Stadium Renovations Close To Done In Canton
(Canton, NC) -- Renovations are almost complete at a stadium in Canton. Pisgah Memorial Stadium was devastated when the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred came through. Haywood County's superintendent told WLOS-TV yesterday that the field is roughly 90-percent refurbished. The school system has had to go through some hoops with FEMA to make sure everything is up to regulation.
Another Billion-Dollar Opioid Settlement Reached
(Raleigh, NC) -- More money is coming to North Carolina in an opioid settlement. The attorney general says the state will see roughly one-billion-dollars as part of nationwide settlements reached with CVS and Walgreens. The pharmacies will also be required to closely monitor suspicious activity with opioids. A-G David Stein says people will be happy and healthy in years to come thanks to the funds.
Some Medicines Running Out In WNC
(Asheville, NC) -- Reports of medication shortages are popping up in western North Carolina. AdventHealth's chief medical officer tells WLOS-TV they've had to give out substitutions during the pandemic. There have also reportedly been shortage of over-the-counter medications as well. The Department of Health and Human Services is also reporting the number of respiratory illnesses is down since the beginning of November.
Interstate Closed Overnights For Road Work
(Asheville, NC) -- Parts of I-26 near Asheville are shutting down overnight this week. DOT crews will be out laying asphalt between exits 37 and 40 westbound through Friday night. Traffic will be rerouted to Airport Road.
Two Sentenced For Statesville Murder
(Statesville, NC) -- Two men are heading to prison for a Statesville murder. It's been more than three-years since Marcus Moore was killed and his brother was injured in a shooting on Deaton Street. A judge sentenced the men yesterday to at least 15-years in prison after they pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted murder.

Homicide Investigated In Northeast Charlotte
(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a homicide in northeast Charlotte. Officers found a victim suffering from injuries suffered in an assault with a deadly weapon on North Tryon Street Sunday night. He died at Atrium Health Main yesterday. There's no word on the suspected cause of death.

Two Detained After Police Chase In North Charlotte
(Charlotte, NC) -- Officers are investigating a police chase that ended in a crash in Charlotte. Cruisers were trying to track down alleged suspects in a late October shooting on Rachel Street. The chase ended when a car wrecked into power poles at W.T. Harris Boulevard and Lakeview Road in North Charlotte yesterday. Two people were detained, but charges are unclear.

Carolina has run up a four-and-four record with Wilks at the helm, after starting the season one-and-four. Zebulon Police Officer Hospitalized Following Shooting Incident At A Community Park
(Zebulon, NC) -- A Zebulon police officer is recovering at WakeMed and a suspect has been taken into custody, following a shooting incident last night. It happened around 10 p.m. at Zebulon Community Park on Arendell Avenue. Paramedics responded to a call of an "officer down" and arrived to find him suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. He was rushed to the hospital and treated for what was described as non-life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, police chased a female suspect in a white Lexus down Highway 96 in Johnston County, until she came to a stop near Byrd and Buffalo Roads in Selma. No word on what charges will be filed.
Driver Dies After Vehicle Accident With An Amazon Delivery Truck
(Johnston County, NC) -- Authorities in Johnston County are investigating an accident in which the driver of a vehicle was killed after crashing into an Amazon delivery van. It happened around 6:45 p.m. Monday, along NC Highway 50 south near the Meadow Community. A preliminary report said the driver of the Amazon truck backed out of a driveway directly into the path of a smaller car. That person was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Amazon van was not injured.
AAA Releases Its Holiday Travel Forecast For North Carolina
(Raleigh, NC) -- Triple-A is predicting more than three-point-three million North Carolinians will travel at least 50-miles from their homes during the holiday season. That's an increase of 134-thousand over the same period last year. The Association also says it expects 90-percent to travel by motor vehicle and around 184-thousand by plane. The holiday travel period will run from December 23rd through January 2nd.
North Carolina To Get More Than A Billion Dollars From Opioid Settlement With CVS And Walgreen's
(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina's share of an out of court opioid settlement with CVS and Walgreen's will come to more than one-billion dollars. That word from Attorney General Josh Stein, who announced Monday that the two national drug store chains have agreed to pay out around 11-billion to 18-states across the U.S. The money will be used to help combat the opioid crisis.
Lenovo And CISCO Set To Lay Off Hundreds Of Employees In Triangle Area
(Triangle Area, NC) -- Two global technology companies with large work forces in the Triangle area, have announced plans to layoff some of their employees. Recent declines in sales cited as the reason. Lenovo, the world's largest PC manufacturer, confirmed the North Carolina layoffs last week. And CISCO announced on Monday, that it will scale back its workforce at Research Triangle Park.
NC State Announces The Hiring Of Robert Anae As Its New Offensive Coordinator
(Raleigh, NC) -- NC State announced Monday, that it has hired Robert Anae as the football team's next offensive coordinator. Anae, who spent the last season at Syracuse, also served as Virginia's OC for six years. A 16-year veteran offensive strategists, Anae has been nominated three times for the Frank Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach. Along the way to NC State, Anae has also worked as an assistant coach at Texas Tech, BYU and Arizona.
Three Children Die In Greensboro House Fire
(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro officials are working to determine what caused a house fire that killed three young children Monday morning. Crews responded to a home in the 25-hundred block of Grimsley Street just before 8 a.m. to find the whole house on fire. Fire Deputy Fire Chief Dwayne Church says flames were coming out of every window, the attic and the front door. He says it took firefighters about five minutes of battling the blaze to reach the children, but they were all found dead. All the victims are under five-years-old. The children's mother was found inside and was taken to the hospital.
Man Faces Involuntary Manslaughter Charges For Crash That Killed 4YO Niece
(Greensboro, NC) - A Greensboro man is facing involuntary manslaughter charges for a collision in which his four-year-old niece died from her injuries. Investigators say the girl died at the hospital after being injured in the car wreck in which her uncle, Asman Zahinda reportedly ran a red light. He is accused of hitting a car at the intersection of Randleman Road in Greensboro. The girl was in the back seat and police say she wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. It happened on Sunday, December 4th. Zahinda is also charged with felony child abuse, among other counts.
Suspect Arrested in Peachtree Street Shooting
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A man has been arrested as a suspect in a shooting on Peachtree Street. Winston-Salem police have arrested Michael Daniel Aguilar, who is 20, for Saturday's early-morning shooting. The victim was shot in the leg but is expected to recover. Aguilar is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators say the victim knew the suspect and the shooting was not random.
Man Found Guilty of Murder, Sentenced to Life in Prison
(Greensboro, NC) -- A Guilford County man will be spending the rest of his life in prison. A jury last week found Saequan Jackson guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Ronald McCray. A news release from the Guilford County District Attorney's office says Jackson shot the 36-year-old to death in August of 2018 near Patio Place and Bywood Road. Jackson was also found guilty of robbery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a stolen car.
School Educators Will Receive Mental Health Training
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- School staffers across the state will soon receive mental and behavioral health training. The state has contracted with the North Carolina Psychiatry Access Line, also known as NC PAL, to complete the training for 130 schools, including those in Winston-Salem/Forsyth and Guilford County. Officials estimate as much as 45 percent more students are struggling now with significant depression than they were before the COVID pandemic. The cost of training will be covered by the state department of health and human services.
