(Asheville, NC) -- Police are continuing to investigate a shooting that left a man critically injured. Alejandro Cedillo-Morales was shot multiple times Friday while sleeping at his home on Black Locust Drive, which left him on a ventilator. He is an employee of the Curate eatery in downtown. The restaurant's owner set up a GoFundMe account to help the family.

Supreme Court To Head Cases On Redistricting, Voter ID

(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina's high court is going to rethink a redistricting and voter ID case. Republican lawmakers are arguing it was wrong when a state Senate map was initially struck down at the end of the year. The GOP-passed voter ID law will be heard again in mid-March.

Asheville Airport Parking Expanding

(Asheville, NC) -- More parking is going in at Asheville Regional Airport. WLOS-TV reports airport officials are soon expected to break ground on the project, which will add roughly 400 spaces. Asheville Regional has increased passenger numbers massively over the last decade. Last year alone saw close to 30-percent growth.

Asheville Habitat Turning 40

(Asheville, NC) -- A special anniversary is coming up for Habitat for Humanity in Asheville. The organization is celebrating its 40th anniversary in the city this coming Saturday. It's the oldest Habitat affiliate in the state. A 40-percent discount will be given at Habitat ReStores on Saturday for whomever finds Waldo in a "Where's Waldo?" contest.

Repair Work Starting On Interstate In Madison County

(Madison County, NC) -- Some repair work on I-26 in Madison County is beginning soon. The DOT says there will be lane closures from the Tennessee state line to Exit Nine at U.S. 19. Projects include replacing bridge decks and drainage boxes. It's expected to take until next year.

CATS Contract Approved By Bus Drivers

(Charlotte, NC) -- A strike by Charlotte bus drivers is being avoided. WCNC reports drivers with the Charlotte Area Transit System and its managing company agreed to a new contract over the weekend. The details include a pay raise and better benefits. Bus operators last turned down a proposal around a month ago.

Failed Panthers Facility Being Torn Down

(Rock Hill, NC) -- The failed Panthers practice facility is being torn down. WCNC reports the space about halfway built when the deal went through last year. It must be demolished because a developing manger says it can't be used for any other purpose. Office and commercial space will likely be placed at the I-77 site in Rock Hill.

Massive Investment With Jobs Coming To Rock Hill

(York County, NC) -- A large economic deal is close to complete in Rock Hill. A public hearing will be held today over incentives for the initiative, which is being called Project Tullamore. County documents show more than 400 jobs are expected to be created through the 440-million-dollar investment. The company will reportedly make semiconductors.

Raleigh Firefighters Battle Four Major Blazes Over The Weekend

(Raleigh, NC) -- At least 21-residents were displaced from their homes, after a large fire caused heavy damage to multiple units of an apartment building in Raleigh. It happened around 6 a.m. Sunday along the 9400-block of Prince George Lane near Six Forks Lake Shopping Center. Four people had to be hospitalized with smoke inhalation, after being rescued from the second floor of a building. One firefighter also received minor injuries. It was one of four structure fires in the Raleigh metro area within an eight hour period this weekend.

U.S. Military Asks North Carolina Beachgoers To Leave Debris From Chinese Spy Balloon Alone

(Sunset Beach, NC) -- Authorities in towns along the North Carolina coast, are warning beachgoers not to touch or move any possible Chinese spy balloon debris that may wash ashore in the coming days. This, after a U.S. military fighter plane shot down the balloon about seven miles off the coast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday. A statement by the Sunset Beach Police Department said the debris is part of a federal investigation and should not be touched, moved or removed. Senator Tillis Says Biden Should Have Acted On Spy Balloon Earlier

(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina Republican Senator Thom Tillis is criticizing the Biden Administration for not ordering the balloon shot down earlier. In a statement posted on Twitter, Tillis said "Communist China was allowed to violate American sovereignty for days. We must be better prepared for future provocations and incursions by the CCP." Tillis called it an embarrassing episode.

Wake County Schools To Reopen Today After Several Were Placed On Lockdown In Response To Social Media Threats

(Wake County, NC) -- Students across Wake County are scheduled to return to classes today, after multiple schools were placed on lockdown and later dismissed Friday. This, in response to alleged threats made on social media against six schools within the District. Two of the lockdowns were classified as Code Red and three were placed under Code Yellow. None of the threats turned out to be credible and there were no injuries.

Muslim Protesters Asking Shaw University To Reopen Campus Mosque For Public Worship

(Raleigh, NC) -- Dozens of Muslim protesters gathered at Shaw University Saturday, to request that administrators reopen a mosque on campus. The mosque, which was initially closed in 2020 due to the pandemic, is now opened only to enrolled Shaw University students and faculty. The building which houses the mosque, broke ground in 1982 with a grant from a king in Saudi Arabia, to expand the scope of Middle Eastern studies. Known as the International Studies Center, the mosque inside was previously open to the public for worship.

Duke University Women Record First Victory At Notre Dame In School History

(South Bend, IN) -- For the first time in program history, the Duke women's basketball team beat Norte Dame at Notre Dame. Changes Coming To Forsyth County HD Pending COVID Slowdown

(Greensboro, NC) -- Some changes in the way the Forsyth County Health Department runs its COVID-19 program will be coming in May. Forsyth County Health Director Joshua Swift says the planned end declaration for the public-health emergency will bring vendor testing to a close. Procedures for COVID-19 vaccine also will be blended into normal vaccine operations. The health department will additionally lose many of the administrative and clinical workers that had been dedicated to COVID-19 services as state and federal funding for those positions will end May 8th.

North Carolina Flights Affected by Suspected Chinese Spy Balloon

(Wilmington, NC) -- Flights to and from Wilmington International Airport are back to normal after they were stopped Saturday by the Federal Aviation Administration. The airport in Wilmington was one of the facilities affected after a suspected Chinese spy balloon was spotted Saturday morning. The federal government shot down the balloon that afternoon. A search and rescue mission is now underway to retrieve debris from the device.

Hostage Released, Two Arrested after Stand-off

(Greensboro, NC) -- Two men are in custody at the Guilford County Jail after a four-hour-long standoff involving a hostage. Greensboro police say the situation with the wanted suspects happened in a home on Wayside drive Saturday afternoon. After negotiations and getting the hostage out safely, authorities arrested Evan Parrish and Mark Parrish, charging them with kidnapping and assault with intent to kill. They're also facing nearly 20 other counts that aren't related to the standoff.

Former North Carolina State Senator Dies

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A former North Carolina state senator who was from the Triad Area has passed away. A funeral notice confirms Jerry Tillman died Saturday at the age of 82. He represented the state's 29th and 26th districts in Guilford and Randolph Counties for over 17 years.

Joel Coliseum to be Under New Management

(Greensboro, NC) -- A company called ASM Global will soon be taking over management of Wake Forest University's Joel Coliseum. The contract with the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, which has been booking non-athletic events at Truist Field, Couch Ballpark and other venues on the Wake Forest campus, is ending August 31st. ASM Global will be the sole company booking events after that. Wake officials say ASM will provide more and better events for all the venues and bring a world class experience for teams, artists and guests.
