(Graham County, NC) -- A death connected to a car fire in Graham County is being investigated by the SBI. The sheriff's office says a 27-year-old woman was found dead Sunday near a trailer park in Robbinsville. Deputies had initially discovered that same woman's car was on fire along Tatham Gap Road just the day before. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Buncombe County Considers Using Old Asheville School
(Buncombe County, NC) -- The future use of a former Asheville school site is being discussed locally. Commissioner Jasmine Beach-Ferrara told the Citizen-Times that Buncombe County is considering the acquisition of the former Asheville Primary School, which is being used for storage and maintenance. Some of those future uses could include a potential Pre-K expansion or as a home for emergency medical services. The board of education gave the go-ahead earlier this week to enter into discussions with the county.

Suspect Caught After Stealing Car, CMPD Chase
(Charlotte, NC) -- A suspect accused of leading the CMPD on a dangerous chase is behind bars. Officers say the man allegedly stole a car at gunpoint yesterday before cruisers caught wind of him along The Plaza. The suspect wrecked the car and tried running away on foot at Belmont Avenue and Harrill Street. He didn't make it far before being caught hiding in a trash can.
Seven Injured In Rowan County School Bus Wreck
(Rowan County, NC) -- A school bus wreck outside Salisbury is under investigation. The driver and seven students were injured when the bus crashed along Jack Brown Road Tuesday afternoon. The bus was traveling from West Rowan High School. One student was kept at the hospital overnight while everyone else appeared okay.

Rayquan Borum was sent to prison for 24-years for a 2016 protest killing in Uptown. Six Month Old Baby Hospitalized Following Triple Shooting That Left Two Adults Dead
(Fayetteville, NC) -- Police in Fayetteville are investigating a triple shooting last night, that left two adults dead and a six-month-old baby girl wounded. It happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. inside a home on Bunce Road. Officers arrived on the scene to find both adults already dead from gunshot wounds. The baby was transported to a nearby hospital. No word on her condition.
Woman Charged With Beating Her Granddaughter To Death
(Nash County, NC) -- Authorities in Nash County are investigating an alleged case of child abuse that resulted in the death of an eight-year-old girl. It happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, along the 5000 block of Dutchman Road in Nashville. The Nash County Sheriff's Office says the child was being transported to Nash UNC Health to be treated for severe injuries to the body and head. But she died on the way to the hospital. The girl's grandmother, identified as 72-year old Patricia Ricks, has been charged with first degree murder and felony child abuse with serious injury.
Two Men Shoot Each Other Outside Nash County Plant; One Dies At The Scene
(Whitakers, NC) -- An investigation is underway into a suspected workplace shooting that left one man dead and another wounded. It happened late Tuesday afternoon outside the Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant on Johnston Road in Whitakers. Police say two men got into an argument and fired shots at each other. One of them, identified as Quentin McNair, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
North Carolina Senate Passes Parents Bill Of Rights Legislation
(Raleigh, NC) -- Republicans in the North Carolina Senate have passed the so-called Parents Bill of Rights. The legislation, which was approved on a 29-18 vote along party lines, would prohibit instruction in public schools about gender identification and sexuality in grades K-4. It would also require schools to notify parents before a child is called by a different name or pronoun. The bill now goes to the House for further consideration.

In a statement released Tuesday, officials at Kempower Inc. said it would invest over 41-million dollars to construct the facility. Once it begins construction later this year, Kempower plans to produce fast-charging electric vehicle charging stations along designated highways and roads across the United States. The company also plans to employ about 300-workers.

Man Dies In House Fire
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Officials say a Winston-Salem man has died in a fire early Tuesday. Crews were battling the blaze at a home in the 47-hundred block of Germanton Road when neighbors let them know someone may have been inside. The firefighters performed CPR on 64-year-old Wade Thomas Spencer but he died at the scene. Police say it's too early to determine what caused the fire but investigators are working to determine that.
Lawmaker Files Bill to Legalize Medical Marijuana
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A Democratic state senator from Winston-Salem is sponsoring a bipartisan bill that would legalize medical marijuana. Senator Paul Lowe says the "Compassionate Care Act" would help many patients who have chronic or fatal diseases including cancer, PTSD, AIDS, M-S and Parkinson's. Patients would need to be at least 21 in order to get a prescription.
Company That Builds Electric Charging Stations Coming To North Carolina
(Raleigh, NC) -- A company that manufactures charging stations for electric vehicles has chosen to build a new plant in Durham. Governor Roy Cooper said Tuesday that Kempower Incorporated will invest 41-million-dollars into the project, which will create more than 300 jobs. The Finland-based company is expected to start production of its fast-charging units this year. North Carolina has received 109-million-dollars from a federal grant program to create a network of fast-charging stations in cities and along major highways.
Greensboro Transportation Plan Would Make City "Car Optional"
(Greensboro, NC) -- A proposal has been introduced in Greensboro that would help to make the city "car optional" within 20 years. The Mobility Greensboro Plan would first expand the city's bus transit system. Then city leaders will broaden the plan and include all modes of transportation. A consulting company will study the proposal for next two years to figure out how to implement it.
Highway Gets Extended Clean-up After Load of Jack Daniels Spills
(Greensboro, NC) -- It's taken the better part of a day, but officials say Interstate 40 in Greensboro is finally cleaned up. That's after a semi-truck full of Jack Daniels crashed and spilled its cargo across the highway near Randleman Road Monday night. Crews took nearly ten hours to haul away the tractor-trailer, then worked to clean up glass from the whiskey bottles. Police say some minor injuries were reported but no one was seriously hurt.
