The governor's race on the Republican side now features Wells, Robinson, state treasurer Dale Folwell and former Congressman Dale Walker.

One Dead In Alleghany County Wreck

(Alleghany County, NC) -- The state highway patrol is investigating a deadly wreck just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Officers say a car veered off the highway and slammed into a home on Glade Valley Road in Alleghany County Saturday morning. The crash killed the driver and injured a passenger. Reckless driving is considered to be a factor in the wreck.

Asheville Man Injured In Bear Attack

(Asheville NC) -- An Asheville man is alive to tell the tale about a bear attack. Bill Palas told WLOS-TV he encountered a cub while he ran a trail in the Pisgah National Forest just over two-weeks ago. Everything seemed okay until the mother bear showed up and slashed the longtime Asheville resident across the face and chest. He ran away and survived, but needed stitches and further hospital care to make it through.

Mountain Bank Offering Opportunity At BRCC

(Asheville, NC) -- A bank in western North Carolina is offering a chance for students to pursue financial careers. The Blue Ridge Community College Educational Foundation announced this month that a ten-thousand-dollar grant program will aid those looking for an apprenticeship experience. In another case, a vigil was held for 25-year-old Tyra Cosby, who was killed at a home on Porter Street almost one-week ago. One woman is facing a charge of voluntary manslaughter.

Record Number Of People Moving To Charlotte

Numbers from the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance reveal that total has reached 113 new residents daily in the region, which is a record. The group's principal researcher told WCNC that there's a trend of people moving from the northeast in search of a better cost of living and quality of life. Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By Amtrak Train In Raleigh

(Raleigh, NC) -- Authorities in Raleigh are investigating a fatal accident involving an Amtrak passenger train and a pedestrian. It happened around 9:20 pm along the railroad tracks near Pullen Road and Baver Drive near N.C. State University. According to Amtrak, the train was traveling from New York to Miami, when it struck an adult male who was walking along the tracks. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Raleigh Police Department is heading up the investigation.

Governor Visits Nash And Edgecombe Counties To Survey Tornado Damage

(Nash County, NC) -- Governor Roy Cooper toured parts of tornado ravaged Nash and Edgecombe counties Sunday. Accompanied by a group of county and local officials, Cooper visited the five areas that were hardest hit by a devastating EF-3 twister last Wednesday, cutting a path of destruction for 16.5 miles. Cooper, who grew up in Nash County, vowed to push for speedy state and federal disaster assistance for victims, once damage assessments have been completed. The governor also praised Pfizer for promising to continue paying those employees and contract workers who are unable to work because of the tornado.

The Mediterranean Deli on Franklin Street, along with adjacent businesses, suffered a combination of fire, smoke and water damage on Saturday. The dozens of people who lined up outside the Med-Deli, said over 80-thousand dollars had already been raised through a GoFundMe account.

Cary K-9 Officer Hospitalized After Being Hit By Armed Carjacker

(Cary, NC) -- A K-9 officer with the Cary Police Department is recovering after being struck and injured by the driver of a stolen vehicle. It happened around 6:30 pm Friday, when a man with a gun carjacked a pickup truck from the Rick Hendricks dealership on U.S. Highway 64. Law enforcement was able to track the vehicle to a convenience store in Raleigh, where the driver tried to speed away in the parking lot. In the process, the dog known as Dakota, was hit and seriously wounded. She was last reported to be listed in stable condition at a veterinary hospital.

VinFast To Break Ground On Billion Dollar EV Assembly Plant

(Chatham County, NC) -- Groundbreaking ceremonies will be held in Chatham County Friday, to begin construction on a new 4-billion dollar VinFast electric vehicle manufacturing plant. Once completed in 2025, the company plans to hire up to 7,500 workers to help produce an estimated 150-thousand electric vehicles per year. Local governments, as well as the state of North Carolina have pledged a total of 1.2 billion in incentives to help VinFast achieve its phase one goals.

One Dead, Three Wounded In Greensboro Shooting

(Greensboro, NC) -- One person is dead and three others are wounded after being shot in Greensboro. Police say shots were fired last Thursday on Brice Street. Two shooting victims found at the scene were hospitalized, while two more were taken to the hospital in private vehicles. The victim who died has been identified as Ronald David Green. No arrests have been made.
