(Asheville, NC) -- There's new developments in the search for the suspect in an Asheville murder case from nearly three-years ago. U.S. Marshals are offering a ten-thousand-dollar reward for the arrest and conviction of Dionate Whitson, who is accused in death of a 17-year-old in November 2020. Officers in the city of Kinston in Lenoir County reportedly encountered Whitson last weekend before he ran away on foot. He allegedly tossed a gun while fleeing, but it was recovered.

DOT Awaits Word On Grant For Rail Plan

(Asheville, NC) -- The state's Department of Transportation could know soon if a major rail project into Asheville will receive a federal grant. A proposal of more than 600-million-dollars is in place, which would in part connect Asheville to Salisbury using Amtrak trains. North Carolina's railroad division recently delivered a study to the federal government, which is expected to decide on the grant this fall. Congressman Chuck Edwards told WLOS-TV that he's skeptical about the results being worthy of the project.

One Treated For Injuries After Yancey County Waterfall Accident

(Yancey County, NC) -- One person is being treated for injuries suffered in an accident at a Yancey County waterfall. The county's rescue squad says crews rushed out after someone fell from the waterfall yesterday, but the exact location hasn't been released. A helicopter lifted the victim to be treated to a trauma center.

Duke Considers New Substation In Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- Duke Energy is eying a new substation location in Asheville. The company wants to build around a parking lot for Harrah's Cherokee Center in downtown. It's essentially a replacement for a current substation in that area that's reached a half-century in age.

Georgia Man Sentenced After Robbing Two Asheville Banks

(Asheville, NC) -- A Georgia man who robbed two Asheville banks and several others is heading to prison. Prosecutors say the man targeted seven-banks in three-states just over two-years ago. The 40-year-old allegedly pulled out a semi-automatic handgun when he robbed an Asheville Wells Fargo and a BB&T in 2021. A judge sentenced him to more than 20-years this week.

Henderson County Commissioners Seek Bridge Name Change

(Henderson County, NC) -- Henderson County commissioners want to rename a local bridge in honor of a fallen deputy. Deputy Ryan Hendrix was shot to death while in the line-of-duty close to three-years ago. WLOS-TV reports commissioners have approved a measure which would allow the U.S. 64 bridge at I-26 to be renamed after him. The DOT is expected to give final approval this fall.

CMPD Speaks On Missing Moore County Woman

(Charlotte, NC) -- The search for a woman who went missing while visiting Charlotte last month is continuing. Allisha Watts hasn't been seen since she reportedly traveled from Moore County to the Queen City, where she was going to a comedy show at Bojangles' Coliseum with her boyfriend in mid-July. An investigator told WCNC that the CMPD has been in constant contact with her family. Officers found Watts' boyfriend was reportedly treated at a hospital after officers found him unresponsive inside her SUV following the disappearance,

Salisbury Girl Hurt In Shooting

(Salisbury, NC) -- Salisbury police say a child is being treated for shooting injuries. A ten-year-old girl was seriously hurt when shots were fired outside a home on North Jackson Street Tuesday night. Rowan County investigators say a gunman then fired towards a deputy from a car while driving towards him. Shots were returned, which allegedly caused the getaway car to crash and for several people to run away.

Woman Sentenced After Rowan County Teen's Murder

(Rowan County, NC) -- One woman is heading to prison for a conviction connected to the death of a Rowan County teen. It's been just over four-years since the remains of Michael Earley were found burned and buried outside a home on Percy Lane in Rockwell. A judge sentenced Lauren Grimes to a minimum of five-years in prison yesterday after she pleaded guilty to being an accessory. Another suspect pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last December.

CATS Altering One Line Schedule

(Charlotte, NC) -- The Charlotte Area Transit System is temporarily changing a line schedule. The frequency for the CityLynx Gold Line will operate on 30-minuted intervals, rather than 20, beginning August 19th. The change will help improve reliability as the agency deals with staff shortages.

Fight Between Two Women In Raleigh Leaves One Hospitalized With Gunshot Wounds

(Raleigh, NC) -- The search for a suspect will continue today, as authorities investigate a shooting outside the Wake County Human Services building in Raleigh Wednesday. Witnesses told police the incident stemmed from an argument between two women, when one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. No word on her condition.

Fire Breaks Out At Chemical Storage Building At Harnett County Produce Plant

(Harnett County, NC) -- Multiple fire crews were called to battle a huge blaze at a produce facility in Harnett County last night. It happened around 9 p.m. at the Dupree Farm Produce plant on Pea Ridge Road in Angler. Authorities say the fire broke out in a building that was used for storing chemicals. There were no injuries and the fire was extinguished in less than two hours.

Animal Shelters Asking Public To Adopt Pets Soon

(Orange County, NC) -- Animal shelters in Orange and Cumberland counties are asking the public for help by adopting animals as soon as possible. Both animal services agencies reported Wednesday, that they had almost reached capacity for dogs and cats. During the month of August, all adoption fees have been reduced in Orange County as part of the Clear the Shelters campaign. They're also asking for volunteers.

Price For School Sporting Events Going Up In Cumberland County

(Cumberland County, NC) -- Cumberland County school officials have announced plans to increase the prices of admission for middle and high school athletic events. Citing increased operating costs, the District said starting this academic school year, prices for high school sporting events will increase from seven to eight dollars per ticket, from four to five dollars for middle school and from three to four dollars per ticket for middle school track and field events.

Two Wilkes County Firefighters Die

(Wilkes Co., NC) -- The Wilkes County Sheriff's Office is investigating the deaths of two Wilkes County firefighters. Details surrounding their deaths haven't been released. One has been identified as Daniel Long. Autopsy results are pending.

Deputy Exchanged Gunfire With Suspects In Rowan Co

(Rowan Co., NC) -- No one is hurt after a deputy exchanged gunfire with several suspects in Rowan County. Authorities say a deputy responded to a shooting in Salisbury Tuesday night where it was reported that a juvenile was injured. While at the scene, a vehicle tried to hit the deputy. People inside the vehicle then began firing shots at the deputy, who returned fire. The vehicle crashed and four people jumped out and continued shooting at the deputy. There is no word of any arrests.

Juvenile Shot In Winston-Salem

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- An investigation is underway after a juvenile was shot in Winston-Salem. Police say the victim was found wounded yesterday at Bridgton Place Drive. Investigators believe the minor was shot while at the corner of Bridgton Place and Bridgton by a suspect who was possibly driving a small red vehicle. No arrests have been made. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lumber Store Catches Fire In Thomasville

(Thomasville, NC) -- A lumber store in Thomasville is damaged after catching fire. The blaze broke out last night at Wilderness NC off East US Highway 64. There is no word of any injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Man Charged In January Bank Robbery In Winston-Salem

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A man is charged in an armed bank robbery in January in Winston-Salem. Police say the robbery happened January 7th at First Horizon Bank on Peter Creek Parkway. The suspect took off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Yesterday, Manuel Massas was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the incident. He was already in custody at the Forsyth County Detention Center on unrelated charges.
