McHenry Proposes EPIC Act

In honor of National School Choice week, North Carolina 10th District Republican Congressman Patrick McHenry proposes a bill that would aid parents who choose not to send their kids to traditional public schools. The Empowering Parents to Invest in Choice, or EPIC Act would allow parents to use tax-free savings accounts, like a 529, to help pay for tuition. 529 savings plans are currently  used to pay for higher-education only. Under the bill, 529 funds could also be used for tutoring or special needs services and book purchases. The EPIC Act would also increase limits on contributions to Coverdell Education Savings Accounts.
